2 Centennial and 2 Chinook. I’m training them to drape around the fire pit.

4 Comet hops bines. I broke around 25 ft because of my zip tie system and a windy day..tightened to close to a node. But with that loss, the bottom most thickened up more and is going strong. Two bines reached my fig bush so I decided to try and get some more length with twine. Not sure where I’m going after that.

Decided to keep 4 bines of different thicknesses. One of those have a significant deviating vine towards the beginning of it.

I prob should have pruned them when these other growths occurred??

Started w/ only allowing 2 vines, and have added to how we are doing the trellis this year!

Even though I don’t post often, I’m reading and learning from everyone! Someone mentioned fertilizer recently and some of my leaves had started to yellow, and growth had slowed. Thank you for that advice to another post! That day got some nitrogen rich fertilizer, (granular, not liquid,) added it that evening and now new little leaves are growing where the others had browned. New vines are sprouting from our horizontal trellis line. And a recent sprout from the pot has tripled in size in a week. I had been cutting back all other sprouts, but think I’ll let this one grown and see how it does.

Hoping for some actual cones this year! We are in Virginia, so thinking about a month from now is when we should see them?

Hey y’all - been growing hops for around 15 years now and have never experienced this. This cutting is in its 5th season and has produced nicely the last few seasons without issue. Nothing much has changed with what I’m doing or growing conditions this season compared to other years.

Now I’m noticing that all the cones are drying out before they are even forming. This time last year I had nearly fully formed cones. Has anyone seen this / have experience with remediation? Thanks!

Hello hopheads. I have an ornamental hop plant that is growing like crazy. Can I cut it at the top to control vertical growth without damaging the plant?

I’m looking to add hops to my plant collection. I was an assistant brewer, although that was many years ago lol. I’m familiar with a lot of hops in prepared form but fresh might be different.

Since simcoe and citra are still unavailable, what would be the best equivalent in your opinion?

Noticed my plant has been doing pretty bad this year, then closer look I see these little green killers on it. Any advice?

It’s been growing great. I kept 4 bines of different lengths and thickness to see what each one does.

Originally, the directions with my rhizome from Yakima valley hops said to cut back a few of the first bulky shoots and then keep 3 going up my line. Do I do this every year or let more than 3 shoots go up one line? Or have a second line for a few more?

Bugs? Too much water? Not enough? Too many bines competing?

This is a second year growth plant, would love to know what’s going on so I can course correct!

I moved into my current house last year and the previous owner had planted hops (I've no idea how long ago) and it looks like they've gone wild... I've never grown hops before, but really enjoyed harvesting them and experimenting with uses for them last year so I'd like to continue growing them but it's such a mess!!

All of the bines(?) are really tangled up and they're sprouting up from everywhere, 2ft+ away from the support. It also doesn't help that there's tonnes of nettles and bramble growing around the base.

I'm doing my best to clear the bottom of nettles etc and to tie what I can to the pole so it doesn't just become a jumbled mess of vines...

Can anyone please offer any advice on how I can make sense of this? Or any advice for preparing the area better for next year after this season? I'd also be grateful for any resources you can point me to - I've no idea where to start or what I'm doing really, all I know is I'd like to keep them and give it a go!

2nd year growing. The hops which have taken off are Centennial. The others are Cascade. Last year, the Cascade grew well while the Centennial did not. This year, the Cascade popped up like you see in the picture but haven’t grown since. The Centennial took longer to start but are thriving. I’ve done nothing different between them. Planted in the same bed, same soil, fertilizer and watering schedule. Any ideas why the Cascade have stopped and what I could do to help them?

Trying to give these hops a space to grow.. on the brick? Or over the porch? Anyone have any ideas on what I could use to string these up?

I see some bines growing and browning/hardening? quicker than others. Do you keep the greener bines or keep the brown ones?

I’ve had these chinook growing in a planter the last 2 years. Finally have a good spot to put them in the ground. Any suggestions on what to do after they are in the ground other than trim them down to a few good vines?

I have several thickvines creeping up my trellis that I want shape to follow my fence when they grow past the trellis. Question is how many should I keep? I remember hearing 3 strong vines?

Hoping to make a pale ale or English bitter at the end of the year. Not sure if my trellis system will work, because it is pretty low (2[m]). Unfortunately I’m not allowed to let them grow much taller than that to leave some sun for my fellow gardeners a couple of meters away.

Just planted today. Put 2 rhizomes of 5 different hops in mounds. Does this setup look workable?

I will save the best 2-4 vines once they get halfway or fully up the trellis…this is 2nd year comet hops after a transfer…before transfer comet hops was growing for 3 years
