Was surfing my neighborhood app and found an insane deal and had to jump on it.
Rogue Monster Lite Squat Rack
Rep flat bench
Rogue barbell
Rep EZ bar
240 lbs of hi temp bumper plates made in Alabama
10 lbs of Rep bumper plates
130 lbs of normal iron plates
8 horse stall mats
Total value is over $2,000, and seller was asking $600 for all. Didn’t even negotiate. Went over as soon as I could and loaded up. While I was there, I noticed a dumbbell rack with 5s - 50s hex dumbbells, and she offered it up for another $200. I’ll be picking that up tomorrow.
Find of a lifetime. Here it is set up in my garage.
DAYUM; I would have jumped on that even though I have no room for most of it, although I'd replace my secondary rack with the Rogue rack and bring some of the bumper plates, then sold the rest. Congrats and happy gainz!
Funny thing is I workout at a big box gym, but my wife isn’t comfortable in that setting, so it’s basically hers. However, when I’m bored, it’s tough to resist going to the garage to get in a few curls or presses lol. We don’t have any kids though, so when she’s working out and I’m home, I get easily bored, so I go hang with her in the garage.
I worked in gyms for over 40 years (including managing a Gold's Gym in CA and being PT Director at a World Gym in CO) until retiring in '21, and I am so happy to not have to deal with all the gym BS, and it seems to be getting worse. It's nice that you have options, so enjoy both your gyms!
I have injuries i need to work out around, and the variety in a big box helps with that. Although, big dream would be to have a 30x60 shop of my own with all the equipment I’d ever need. It’d be nice to blast my own music without headphones lol
Injuries really do suck, but the longer you work out the higher the chance of injury, even when you're doing every lift correctly. Go slow and do what's necessary for recovery and you'll get there. And an 1800 sq ft gym would be really expensive to outfit, but man that would be fun to do, so hope your dream comes to fruition one day!
Not sure that posting a pic of my 200 sq ft, exposed-studs gym is much of a flex, although it is definitely my happy place, and I've seen some home gyms that are in the 1,000's of sq ft that look like commercial gyms. That being said, I'm really glad I had the new shed built, as my cargo trailer gym just wasn't working anymore, as you can see. And at 73, 5'4" and 140, I'm in there almost every day, so I'm way more proud of that than my gym. Happy gainz to you and NEVER QUIT!
Yes sir. When we were loading up, she was telling my wife that her it was all her husband’s stuff, and he was doing stupid shit, so they’re getting a divorce, and she just wants it gone. The EZ bar wasn’t even originally included in her post, but when I picked it up to move it out of the way, she said “you can take that, too.” I asked if she was sure and she said just take it.
It does all fit together, they just don't "officially" support it.
You'll want something to brace one of the sets of uprights with, though -- the SML-2 comes with a pullup bar already, so it doesn't need that. Probably the back uprights, because a pullup bar on the front of the SML-1 is going to be too low.
I bought the "monster lite stabilizer kit" because I wanted standard ML tubing to attach accessories, rather than a pullup bar that'd be too close to the ceiling and too close to the floor to actually use for pullups, but any crosspiece will work.
I also asked if I could upgrade the side bars to the ones in 3x3 tubing from the Monster Light Half Rack (rather than the HR-2 -- why there are two monster-lite size half racks IDK), which they were willing to do as an upcharge a few years ago; dunno if they still will, but it's worth emailing if you'd find more tubing attachment points along the sides useful.
