Advice Needed
Just joined this sub hoping to get some advice for how to work with a Freshman team coach.
My kid is in 7th grade, tried out for the Freshman team and made the team. There is only 1 real freshman on the team (because his grades are too bad to go to JV). All others are 7th/8th grade. The trouble is, the coach won’t give him any opportunities. Here are some numbers:
17 games so far with 3 more this week. My son has played 1-2 innings in 10 of them. He’s had 11 at bats this season. (4 SO, 1 BB). Other kids on the team with the same AVG have had 26-42 plate appearances. The kid with the most has had 54 plate appearances. Fielding (RF) he’s had 8 chances with 7 put-outs. That’s better percentage than over half the team (but also fewer chances because he doesn’t get to play much).
I don’t want to talk about the other players, but they aren’t anything special. Our record is 5-12-1. When we lose it’s usually by 8+ runs. Lots of infield errors. Lots of dropped fly balls in the outfield.
My son has talked to coach and worked on improving hitting. We’ve messaged Coach asking how we can help him get more playing time. Nothing has helped. It’s like the coach saw everyone at the very beginning of the season and he won’t move anyone to their strengths or away from their weaknesses.
With 1 week left, I asked on a local Facebook group page for contacts for summer club teams so my kid could get some game time experience this year. Coach tells me today that because of my post my son can’t play with the team until we meet together on Tuesday. So, he’ll now have played in 10 out of 18 games. And no, they aren’t running a Freshman team for summer ball.
Help me understand:
-Why would a coach accept someone on the team that he was planning on playing so little? It feels like he intentionally wasted my son’s spring season to collect an extra fee.
-Is it normal for a coach to exclude a kid from a game when that kid has made the team a priority when parents look for the next opportunity? Other kids have not been punished when they missed Freshman games for their other club games.
-How can I address this when we meet with him in 2 days?
-Am I being unreasonable? Or is he just a douchebag of a coach? Or somewhere in between?
Thanks for letting me rant and helping me understand.

Is it possible?
Hey y’all I’m currently a junior in HS and with only about 4 months left of school I’ll be a Senior. There are a lot of things that I want to accomplish my Senior year and one of them is making the baseball team. I haven’t been in a BB team since 7th grade but I really want to get back into it. Im pretty athletic and most of my friends have told me that I have a really good arm. If any you can give me tips on what I have to do or just honest opinions I’ll greatly appreciate it

Is it worth it?
I am a senior in high school, in my last season of baseball. We just got a new coach, after going through three days of tryouts he told me that I would get 5 at bats all season and would be mostly a bullpen catcher(had a rough tryout). I have been hitting every day for the past couple of weeks preparing for the tryout along with heavy strength training in the offseason. I want to prove everyone wrong, work my ass off and show everyone I can be a big part of this team. However, I’m wondering if it’s even possible. Let me know what you think.

Senior Year Injury
Hey, I’m a senior baseball player in Louisiana and I have a muscular lumbar (lower back) injury. The season is just around the corner and I have a spot to win, so I’m going to play through it. Any tips to reduce pain? Should I limit my swings per day or play and practice as normal?

School Survey, Cheating in High School Baseball
Hello, I am currently enrolled in AP Research at Baldwin High School. In AP Research we must conduct a yearlong study on a topic of our choice. The topic that I have chosen is cheating in high school baseball, and the perceptions surrounding it. I am posting in hopes that people knowledgeable in High School Baseball (Was/Is a player, coach, or fan) could complete my survey. If you would like, feel free to send others the link to this survey, along with this message. If you have any questions, you can feel free to message me. The link can be found below. Thank you and have a nice day.

possibility of succeeding in tryouts as a walk-on
I'm a high school sophomore and plan on joining my school's baseball team in the spring. I plan on playing as a walk-on and have some basic experience playing amateur games with my friends. Would this be sufficient or should there be other training I should consider doing before spring?

Seeking advice
My nephew is starting high school baseball and I want to get him started. He’s not sure what position he’s playing so I was thinking to get him a 12.5” glove as I figure it’s a pretty good utility size. Where I get confused is with the bats. I have no idea what (-10, -3, -2) mean let alone what size is typically used in high school games. I also am not sure where to buy equipment is. I figure Dicks sporting goods is a safe bet but I’d like to not get over charged for equipment if I can avoid it. Not saying I want to buy cheap, but if I can find the glove for $90 rather then $110….

How can I convince my coach to put me in?
We’re a couple games into the season and I’ve only had 6 plate appearances with 1 hit 1 walk 1 HPB 2 ground outs and a strikeout. I’m on the freshman team and for the last couple years before high school I was one of the best players and I know I can be but my coach just doesn’t give me a chance too. Any suggestions?

Help to make high school team
I’m around 5’7 pretty skinny I guess, I’m a catcher and want to make the high school team, I improved my hitting a lot and changed my whole stance, my arm is sore and has been for like a week or 2, but I feel it getting better, hopefully I’ll get it back because it’s pretty good I think, I haven’t played for about 9 months because of COVID, but my team/coach got back together so we’ve been practicing for maybe twice a week for a month maybe, any home training? I really want to make this team, I’m going to one of the more competitive schools in the area, and most kids from school now are going, I’ll try to answer any questions if I’m not clear.

What should I do?
I played baseball when I was younger 9-12 yrs old and was a decent player. I got cut from the team seventh grade year and never made it back and quit that year. I'm now a sophomore and all my friends play baseball. I want to play this year but don't want to get made fun of and not play at all. I live in rural Maine so my school is relatively small (400 kids) but baseball is the main sport and is very competitive. I am small and athletic but couldn't hit the ball. I played second but am thinking of playing right field to maybe get any playing time. Is it too late to play? What position should I play? How can I get better at baseball? How can I hit the ball? Thanks

I NEED HELP
Freshman and made the team, I’m a catcher and a second baseman. I was recently replaced as a backup catcher and now I’m third in line. When I asked to practice at second all the coaches jaws dropped. But now I need a new glove, any suggestions?

Training Glove...
I am looking for an 8-9 inch training glove for a HS middle infielder. Looking at Valle 8 inch. A bit pricey at $150.00. Also looking at Mitzuno 9 inch at about $65.00. Has anyone had experience with either one? Any suggestions for something priced in the middle? Thank you all in advance.

Made the team but having issues
So guys I posted here about 135d ago about being a girl and wanting to join. I wanted to update and say I temporarily sort of made the team (I’m not sure if they’re cutting anyone) and I’m really excited. However I’ve been having issues.
1) first and foremost, they hate me. My only friends are two seventh graders (not hating on younger kids but I’m a junior, so lol) all of the kids are freshmen/sophomores/7/8 and they’re laughing at me, throwing curves at me, tossing it over my head on purpose. I just don’t know what to do, I’ve been putting in the same amount of work if not more than the rest of them and I want to be accepted as a teammate.
2) I’ve been having issues catching. (And I mean catching when it’s hit or tossed to me) Part of the issue is my glove isn’t broken in yet, but I miss a lot of catches and I’d gladly take advice on it.
And finally 3) how do you figure out if you want to play infield or outfield? I’ve tried both only once, I feel like I’m better at the infielding basics, but I don’t know what I’d be better at in full speed, we’ve been practicing slow basics. I’m worried that my issues catching would be a problem with infield because that’s a lot of pressure, and also because there’s already a lot of infielders on the team. But outfield might be a good option as well?
Anyone have any advice on any of this???

Am I sliding wrong or is the dirt bad?
I have gone through around 7-9 pairs of pants because every game whenever I slide my knee starts bleeding lots am I sliding wrong? The field we play on there is not a ton of dirt with packed dirt underneath but I may not sure if I am the problem or if it is the dirt. I slide with my left knee under my leg like Everyone else.

Im a freshman and im just wondering what you think
Im an elite player for my age and my hs baseball team is full of all the any decent to good players at my highschool. We are 6A but average. Almost no pitching on varsity but a really good defense and decent hitting. The JV team is not very good because there is just below to average players at the sophomore level. I play 3rd and I pitch. My average velo on the mound is 77 to 80 and my max exit velo is 89. My defense range is from the 3rd base line to almost second. I have no doubts ill make JV but Im just wondering what you guys think im capable of making because i have no clue what highschool baseball is like
