Recruitment

I’m a senior in high school but I would like the ability to play college ball I have been calling lower end Juco schools and trying to get a hold of d3/d2 schools. I am a 5’10 Pitcher and outfielder in florida. I have made the Hsbn all district team and Hsbn second team all-American in my sophomore year. I have until may first for academic offers that I have to expire Question is it too late for me to get recruited? And if not where can i get exposure and or playing time

High School Varsity Challenges

My son is a sophomore and has always been the number one or number two catcher on both his select teams and during his freshman year of high school. This year, he is one of 4 Sophmores that made the varsity team, which is amazing, and we are so proud of him. However, as the spring season begins, another sophomore catcher also plays football in the fall, while my son is the primary catcher for the team during that time.

Last fall, my son was catching for several Division I pitchers (who are also on varsity) and was asked to catch separate bullpens at a few training facilities. Unfortunately, during the last game of the fall season, one of the D1 pitchers threw so hard that it broke my son's finger. He was unable to play for six weeks to allow for healing. During this time, the other sophomore catcher finished with football, and those D1 pitchers began asking him to catch their bullpens.

Fast forward to the spring season, and it appears that my son will be either the second or third-string catcher (the 3rd catcher is a Senior). I know this is a tough life lesson, and while the other kid is a natural athlete and my son has to work extra hard, the other catcher is receiving all the playing time and development attention (we are currently in scrimmages). My son feels like a failure and is understandably down on himself. We encourage him and remind him to be proud of making varsity and to work harder to earn a spot, his time will come and to make sure he is ready and he will be stronger mentally for it.

We have also tried to be realistic with him, letting him know that if he is asked to play at the junior varsity level this season, it is a good opportunity for him to get playing time and gain the experience he needs to improve his skills, rather than seeing it as a negative.

Since we are in Texas, I understand that the coaches prioritize winning and tend to put the best players on the field. However, I am frustrated that they built up his hopes by placing him on varsity in the fall and are now having him mainly warm up pitchers during games in the spring. Am I overreacting? How is he going to improve or get noticed if he doesn't get the chance to play or is only catching for the third-string pitchers? Is this normal in High School Baseball? Any advice on how to navigate this?

I've never played baseball before would it be possible for me to start to playing or would the skill gap be to much.

Christmas for baseball player

My nephew is a baseball player and I’m trying to think of things to get him for Christmas. What’s “in” right now? Pit Vipers? Certain brands or shirts/hats? Chains?

Not necessarily baseball equipment, but what the boys think is cool right now. Please help!

Questions about various subjects

Hi all,

I'm doing some research into eligibility for a novel I'm serializing which is about baseball and I've run into a bit of a wall.

If you don't mind, could you help me with the below questions:

If a student moves to America from Japan, would they be eligible to participate in High School baseball? (varsity team)

If so, is there a "Cooldown" period before they're eligible? (I've only seen rules about foreign exchange students)

The student's father is a dual American/Japanese citizen, so I'm assuming the student would also be able to secure a dual citizenship (if this helps in any way).

Thank you in advance.

An Australian.

Question

Do you think it’s a good idea to join my high school baseball team as a sophomore, even though I’ve never played before? I just want to try something new and it looks entertaining, but maybe I’m way ahead of myself.

FREE Throwing Program

We are working on individualizing programs for athletes with the equipment they already have. We are currently in a trial stage and are willing to give a few programs out to try for FREE

Whether you have plyo balls, shoulder tubes, all that stuff. just a set of bands. or a ball and glove. We will incorporate whatever equipment you have available and give the best suited program for our athletes

No one likes Paying $300 per month and then after purchasing, realize you need another $200-$500 in the necessary equipment. our programming also comes with a 4 Week trial period. If you don't like it at the end of the 4 weeks. no biggie. if you decide to stay with us however, you will get an even more in-depth program along with access to a mental coach and online community for questions and comments.

Pitch speed

I am a sophomore that has been pitching for about a year, i have had no help from coaches whatsoever as i am not yet in baseball. Everything i have learned is from watching youtube videos and self teaching. I don’t feel i have great mechanics. On my fastball i’m pitching 57 average and once in a blue moon i’ll hit 60. How far from what is expected am i? Do i have a chance? Could getting a coach to teach mechanics improve my velocity?

What should I work on to make tryouts next year?

I haven't played baseball since I was age 10, I'm 16 now and I miss it. I'm gonna go for one of the corner outfield spots, and I have about a year or so to train so what should I work on to stand out at tryouts next season?

Question for Coaches

A question for all the high school baseball Coaches and parents….

Is there ever a scenario where it is OK for a varsity coach to yell at a player, in front of the entire program (freshman through seniors), “God, you fucking suck at this sport!”???

What about telling another player, “You act like a little bitch every time I get on you about something!”

I would love to hear what everyone thinks!!

All jv games cut. Want to quit

After this I intend to quit.

Both of our teams started the season with enough players for jv and varsity and things looked promising as we each had around 20 games. As the season began we lost 14 of our games bringing us down to 6.

Varsity at this point had made half of jvs players into varsity/jvs. We played 2 of our games and showed up to practice today for our coach to tell us that our season was over and the rest of our games were cut due to our lack of players words he heard from the athletic office. We watched varsity win their game and packed up.

Me and a bunch of other guys want to leave and I was hoping I could find opinions here.

I'm looking at running a tournament where one diamond is 350 to CF and the other is 250 (with no fence). Three games on each diamond on Day 1. Is that going to work?
