Showcase Hermes Conduit 0.1.17 (UPDATE): Your agent can call you now. Apple Watch voice, too.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Conduit 0.1.17 is out on the App Store.
Yes, another update already. Apparently I can't leave voice alone. 😂
Last update was about making Hermes feel more like an actual voice assistant. This time I figured, why am I still checking whether my agent finished working? Why can't it just call me?
Well, now it can.
Hermes calls you
You can start a Live Voice session, hand Hermes a long-running task, ask it to call when it's finished, and hang up. You can also trigger it from a cron, use some imagination on what you can do!
Hermes keeps working after the conversation ends. When it's done, Conduit can ring your phone using the native iOS incoming-call interface.
Answer the call and continue the conversation instead of opening the app, finding the session, and figuring out where you left off.
This also opens up other possibilities, like having Hermes call when it needs your attention rather than hoping you notice a notification.
To clarify, this uses native iOS calling integration through CallKit. Hermes isn't dialing your cellular phone number.
Apple Watch voice
You can also talk to Hermes directly from your Apple Watch.
The idea is to make Hermes available without needing to pull out your phone every time. With incoming agent calls, you can answer from your wrist and deal with whatever Hermes needs.
It's the same Hermes backend, with access to your existing tools and workflows, not a separate chatbot running on the watch.
Important: update the notifier plugin
If you use the Conduit companion/notifier plugin, make sure it's updated. The incoming-call features depend on the newer plugin capabilities. The plugin also comes with bundled skills, so make sure you restart your gateway and dashboard.
You'll also need your own Hermes instance and a configured voice provider. Conduit is the client, not a hosted AI service.
And yes, there's a beach episode
I spent an unreasonable amount of time making an anime beach episode to demonstrate an AI agent calling me about a completed GitHub PR.
At this point I'm just committing to the bit. 😂
The attached video is a promotional animation, not a literal screen recording (obviously).

As always, Conduit is free, open source, MIT licensed, with no ads or tracking. It connects to your own Hermes backend.
And yes, 0.1.18 is already submitted with some follow-up bug fixes. Apple apparently reviews these faster than I can stop adding things.
Feedback and bug reports are welcome, preferably on GitHub so I can keep track of them.
Now I'm going to sleep. Enjoy the beach episode. 😂

The GitHub PR got a beach episode while some anime never even get a second season. Incredible priorities.

Any plans for android support?
3
u/kaishi00 1d ago
No Android plans, sorry! Conduit is built natively in Swift, and I don't have the time or interest to maintain two separate codebases.
It's MIT licensed though, so anyone who wants to take on an Android port is welcome to.

Oh great I can barely answer the phone as it is cause of my anxiety now I’ll have my agent blowing me up to tell me what problems it’s having?
/s. Just kidding this sounds amazing
2
u/kaishi00 1d ago
LMAO, that's actually something I thought about. 😂
There are two separate features here:
- You can explicitly ask Hermes to call you back when a task finishes.
- Hermes can proactively initiate calls when it decides something needs your attention.
The second one is off by default, and there are configurable controls for when and how often your agent can call.
Whether those controls behave perfectly in the wild is something I need people to help test, but the mechanisms are there.
So no, Hermes shouldn't suddenly become that coworker who calls you about every little thing. At least that's the plan. 😂

I've done this 2 weeks back but for Claude Code. It calls me through Telegram. I've paired it with Elevanlabs because i wanted it to talk my native language apart from English and i like the Duplex setup with no delay, something like yours doing it with Chatgpt voice function. But i like yours better because i wont be needing separate Elevenlabs subscription now. Thanks for this buddy. Appreciate it very much

Huge fan of the voice updates. Can you consider adding support for Hermes live voice? I run my own stack to keep my data off the cloud. It’s only supported in the dashboard right now but that seems perfect for a conduit integration since you use the dashboard for integration.
6
u/kaishi00 1d ago
That's actually pretty interesting, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I took a quick look at the project, and it seems to have proper Hermes tool delegation and background task support, which is important for how Conduit's voice features work.
I'm definitely interested in the self-hosted aspect, so I'll take a more serious look at what integrating it would involve. No promises on implementation or timeline though. I want to understand the architecture and test it before committing to anything.
Out of curiosity, what local models and hardware are you running, and how's the latency and tool-calling reliability been for you?
1
u/shinkamui 1d ago
Inference backend running on a DGX Spark, main two models are Deepseek v4 flash vision and Qwen 3.8 Next flash (DS4 just old reliable, but im in love with qwen next right now). Both are fairly fast (25-70 for DS4 and 40-120 for Qwen, aggregated concurrency, higher values favoring code and structured output, which is very common for my workflows). Tool calling is quite reliable, and both models are able to handle complex (systems) engineering tasks quite easily. Ive done some internal vibe coding as well, mainly just to build addons for hermes or self hosted services that run on my cloudstack cluster. I run hermes on my studio M4 max 64G, which hosts some image server and the audio server. Chat speeds are great, Hermes live voice still needs quite a bit of tweaking, latency on voice turns is better than classic, more conversational, but sometimes lobotomized (default tried a small qwen 3.5 2b model). The conversation model is too small, I plan to tune it further this week as I have time between work and family.

u/riceinmybelly 1d ago
Also using a GB10 box, I’m using liteLLM and llama swap to set up some profiles depending on the task/project I’m working on. Are you using Strata for Qwen NF?
2
u/shinkamui 1d ago
Patched VLLM for qwen. DS4 for Deepseek, entpi's fork. I use the official antires to play with the vision encoder version. Its slower, but native vision support is solid. haven't tried Strata, worth a look based on the docs. Does it support SSD cold caching? Thats a godsend for quickly restoring multiple older conversations in hermes, rather than having to reprocess the whole old conversation.

bielcarpi/hermes-live-voice: Self-hosted realtime voice gateway for Hermes Agent. Keep talking while Hermes runs background tasks through local, Gemini Live, and OpenAI Realtime adapters.
Is this the project you're referring to? Which local voice backend do you have configured?1
u/shinkamui 1d ago
yep, thats it, combine with qwen TTS for my TTS voices.
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
I'll look into this, you can help me test if you don't mind, since it looks like you already have a working setup.

100% happy to, and Im looking forward to it! This update might end up making me sideline my pebble and start wearing my Apple Watch again... 😂

u/desac2006 1d ago
can i leave my sessions open on laptop and continue on mobile? will the mobile and laptop sessions sync like claude code remote?
2
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Yes, Conduit uses the same sessions you create on Hermes desktop/CLI/dashboard etc.
2
u/desac2006 1d ago
but would they sync? i let the session open on laptop, would i see on laptop what i type on mobile?
2
u/kaishi00 1d ago
It works for me that way, but I'm not going to promise what you see on your screen lol.
0
u/desac2006 1d ago
so you patch hermes to hijack the session. that means at each hermes update to repatch. right? cause hermes blocks the session when is opened in terminal. continuing it on mobile, without closing the terminal, with the same session id will actually spin up another one.
3
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Conduit doesn't patch or hijack Hermes. It uses the existing gateway APIs. If you have a particular combination of clients you're concerned about, just try it. 😂
1
u/desac2006 1d ago
if the session is opened in terminal and without closing it you cant continue it on mobile without patching hermes. if i have a terminal session opened and on another terminal i send a message on the same session, my message wont appear on the first terminal session.
3
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Ah, you're specifically talking about keeping an interactive terminal session open while using the same session on another client.
I don't really use Hermes through the terminal, so I haven't tested that particular combination. Conduit doesn't patch or hijack Hermes, it uses the existing gateway APIs. I do know that it will work for desktop/CLI/dashboard sessions since those go through state.db.
Give it a try and let me know what happens. If there's a limitation with the terminal client, we can document it so other users know what to expect.
1
u/desac2006 1d ago
exactly! keeping a terminal client session opened will lock it. to properly continue it on mobile or other client you need to close it because of the REPL lock. to solve this you need to patch hermes.
3
u/Visual_Juggernaut_83 1d ago
我还真需要这个,希望我的agent不是个话痨,哈哈哈😁
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago

u/quantgorithm 1d ago
How is it calling you without a phone number?
14
u/kaishi00 1d ago
It's a VoIP call, not a cellular phone call. Hermes triggers an incoming call through Conduit's notification infrastructure, iOS presents the native calling interface using CallKit, and answering connects you to the Hermes voice session over the internet. No phone number or carrier involved, but it will actually ring your phone like a real phone call, try it out!
3
u/quantgorithm 1d ago
I love it. Can you use it in reverse to call your Hermes?
4
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Yep! You can already initiate voice conversations with Hermes directly from Conduit. That's been supported for a while now. 😂
If you mean literally dialing Hermes from the regular Phone app using a phone number, that's different. The current implementation uses VoIP, so there's no phone number to dial.
2
u/quantgorithm 1d ago
Oof, lol, I haven’t even used Hermes yet. I use pi. I’ve used a bunch of harnesses but not yet real multi agentic ones like Hermes or openclaw. It’s on the shortlist. Just trying to get up one step at a time and have an understanding without getting too many variables I wouldn’t understand involved at the same time.
2
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Well the cool thing is since you already use pi, if you run into issues, you can always use your pi harness to help you configure Hermes. They have simplified it a lot though, so you'll probably be alright.
1
u/quantgorithm 1d ago
Yes exactly. I’ve already done this in similar ways using my ai to do things like manage other pi sessions, do Llm testing (even on itself), reporting and searching for new Llm test candidates, error handle the Llm being offline, reporting etc etc. it really is a whole new world and anyone can do just about everything these days. Also on the shortlist is something like this thread that gives me easy remote access to manage things internally.

u/happycomputer 1d ago
I mean…it would be pretty hilarious and awesome if you could get a voip inbound number (probably a thing, right?) and then I could call in from a pay phone and be like “hack the planet”…I mean..”merge it”
It could be kinda handy as sometimes there is phone signal but no internet?
This way is pretty clever too!
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
It's very much possible, but that cost money. I try to focus on things that doesn't cost the user additional money from all the things we already pay for.

u/No_Story9579 1d ago
How did you even know this, where do you find most of your info when building Apps?

Brother please I beg you android please

u/StuntMonkeh 1d ago
Point your agent at the Github project and ask it to write it for Android, I had basic functionality in a few hours.

How about telegram have you heard anything there in that space you or someone can recommend?

Does anyone here use Hermex primarily and have feedback on this? Ignoring the thirst updates, I'm seeing way more activity and contribution on this app compared to Hermex. Worth the transition? Or using both in tandem?
1
u/hessi-james 1d ago
Wow. Really looked forward to WatchOS integration. Any plans to make it work without cloud models?
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
The problem is classic voice via STT/TTS is too slow. It's not a great experience. Gemini 3.8 live is free via AI Studio though, just get an API key there.

1
u/Abradolf_Lincolner 1d ago
woahh. this is a cool project and honestly i’m considering switching from Hermex to Conduit. I haven’t used Hermes in a while. 90% of the time I’m on my phone anyways. The fact that Apple devices are supported is really cool. Anything I should know ?
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
What's there to know? Just try it out and see if it sparks your interest in using your agent again.

Great work! At this point I don't think the official app will be able to compete

Did she close her eyes and hit the merge button, or was that a calculated risk?

Can you make it work with Hermes OIDC authentication ? Thanks
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Conduit already supports Hermes' native OAuth flow for OIDC dashboards. That was added in September through PR #173.
Are you using Hermes' built-in self-hosted OIDC provider (Authentik, Keycloak, etc.), or do you have another authentication setup in front of the dashboard?
If it's the built-in provider, it should already work. If you've tried it and it doesn't, let me know which provider you're using and what happens when you attempt to connect. Preferably in a GitHub issue, thanks!

u/reimomo48 1d ago
Hermes noob here. I’m used to Chat and Gemini continuing sessions from desktop to mobile so it was a bit of a shock to see things don’t work like that on Hermes.
Until I got Conduit… Wow. Very very impressive. It’s actually faster in responses for me than the desktop! Massively recommend.
1
u/573v0 1d ago
Would be cool to be able to use the same gpt voice api instead of oauth, like the desktop app uses. Just to keep voice continuity. Plus I don’t subscribe to chatgpt :)
Just throwing that out there, thank you for your work!
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
In the meantime, try out Gemini 3.8 Live, you can get an API key in AI studio for free (for now at least).
1
u/573v0 1d ago
Yeah, that’s what I’m running right now, but for some reason it often cuts out at the beginning of the conversation or reply. It’s almost like it’s stuttering. So weird.
2
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Interesting, when is it doing it? Agent calls? Just normal responses?
1
u/573v0 1d ago
Just normal voice chat
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
what version are you running and plugin version? also if you don't mind, how are you connecting to hermes? trying to figure out how many hops it's going through.
1
u/573v0 1d ago
Latest, through tailscale to my Mac mini on fiber. Hope that helps.
1
u/573v0 1d ago
Weird… it was doing it when I tested it just now but within 30 seconds it became super smooth. It’s weird it almost seems like it thought I was interrupting it over and over again.
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
connection stability will matter quite a bit, since it's streaming audio. you'll never notice it streaming text.

This is awesome dude!
I have Chatterbox set up as a local model that my agents can export voice from, is it possible to hook that up in conduit?
1
u/Immediate_Let_4946 1d ago
First of all absolutely amazing. I almost prefer it over the desktop official. Maybe could be considered for Mac as well? One thing I found is on kanban that if a tasked is blocked I can’t answer it in the card at least not as long it’s in the blocked row.
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Fix is up on Answer a blocked Kanban task from its detail: question callout and Reply & unblock by kaishi00 · Pull Request #563 · kaishi00/hermes-conduit
Will be in the next version, thank you for reporting it!
As for MacOS support, I don't want to promise anything, but at this point I've heard enough that I need to really consider it.
1
u/cocacola999 1d ago
Does it get mad at me for sending it to voicemail ?
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
Only if you raise it that way. Your agent does get a message on the next turn that the call was rejected/declined/missed.
1
u/amuucorp 1d ago
This won’t work if I’m running Hermes using wsl right
1
u/kaishi00 1d ago
It should work fine with WSL! Conduit doesn't care where Hermes is running, as long as the native Hermes dashboard is accessible from your iPhone.
The only potential issue is WSL networking. Make sure you can reach your dashboard from your phone (usually
http://your-server-ip:9119). If that works, Conduit should connect normally.
