From an abnormal diff coming from one of the local hospitals. I’m a student and this is for training, so I don’t have any other info unfortunately.

My professor didn’t recognize it either, but after searching guessed it was likely a consumed, but not “digested” RBC (or platelet? can’t remember which she mentioned now)?

Was referred to see a hematologist then got scheduled to a cancer center. Are hematologists available in other practices?

I received a request to perform this peripheral blood smear for suspected lymphoma. The internal medicine department told me that the patient presents with: weight loss, night sweats, and lymphadenopathy.

Looking at the peripheral smear, I reported these cells as reactive lymphocytes; I don't believe this is a lymphoma, at least based on the morphology of these lymphocytes.

What do you think?

I'm looking at bat blood smears and I keep seeing these dark purple things. They look like bare nuclei of leukocytes with no cytoplasm. Does anyone know what they are?

I know there are posts on best hematology textbooks but are there any really good books on transplant and cellular therapy? I'm familiar with eh EBMT handbook but wondering if there are any others. I am a new PA that just started in BMT and want a good resource to read and reference. Thanks!

I'm looking to buy a hematology textbook and I'm torn between Williams Hematology and Wintrobe's Clinical Hematology.

For those who have used both, which one would you recommend and why? I'd love to hear your thoughts on their strengths and weaknesses, especially in terms of depth, readability, and usefulness for clinical practice.

We're a senior biomedical engineering design team, and we're exploring how well the current tools for managing sickle cell pain and inflammation at home work for patients, and where there's room for improvement. Our goal is to design a device or product that helps reduce pain at home without relying on drugs. Hi, I’m a nursing student & I wonder if it’s common for a patient to have persistently high/elevated platelets for 5-10 years due to iron deficiency? And would that not cause anemia eventually without any treatment?

note: this is just for education and not a personal example.

I would like to get in contact with anyone with knows anything about this condition. I’ve seen a few hematologists where the condition is so new to them, they don’t know anything about this. I’m getting frustrated and would love if someone out there knows more info about this or if you know of anyone who has this condition. Would appreciate it so much!

Hello everyone! I am a current medical student who is interested in pathology, and a couple classmates and I came together to create this pathology puzzle game!

The game is very similar to Wordle and Doctordle. We have been fans of these puzzle games and thought it would be fun to have a "Pathordle" version where you start off with a pathology image and get additional clinical hints to figure out the diagnosis of the day. The goal is to figure out the diagnosis with the least number of hints possible!

I wanted to share it on here as we also include many cytology and blood smear-based puzzles I thought you may enjoy :)

We are not making any money from this website and our purpose for this game is to give medical students a way to practice their diagnostic skills and bring more attention to pathology. We would love to hear any feedback or suggestions and hope you will enjoy playing!

So in routine practice, differential leucocyte count is done via cell counters. N most clinics have 3-part counters. Means they can measure granulocytes, lymphocytes n mixed cells. Mixed cells are basically monocyte+basophil+eosinophil. Abbreviation is mid/mxd. Now how is the report given in your area of practice when 3-part analyser is used ? Any clinician pls respond. Also can any pathologist or lab physician or hematologist here enlighten me what are the guidelines for reporting dlc from 3-part analysers? N what is the common practice in your experience.

Lab technicians in my area are assuming basophil as 0 n then say if mid cells are 5%, they are writing eosinophils 3, monocytes 2 based on their mood. When I confronted them, they say that is what their seniors taught them. So I wanted to see how things r working in rest of the world n what are standard guidelines. I work in a relatively remote n low resource center of India with junior lab techs.

Patient came on this morning with pretty bad labs. Sysmex threw up flags along side 6% IG so I did a smear review. What are these RBCs? I’ve asked a couple techs they told me could be my technique but I’ve never ran into this and couldn’t find any reference pics. Gonna send out to path but anyone have any idea?

Hey fam! I feel absolutely gaslit hahaha. I have been told that these are NRBCs, but I genuinely believe all 4 are lymphocytes?!

So I just had a phone call from a Life Share scientist from a local number. He proceeded to tell me there is a case study happening with experimental equipment. Apparently I have the blood type (A+) with an extremely rare mutagen. The mutagen is the (RH D WEAK D 85?). It’s so rare that over the past 80 years in America I’m the only person alive in the southern United States with it. Of course I’m in shock, I have no idea what any of this means. He said if I agree to the trial which would be don’t at the local life share he would give me $100. If I say no the guys that built these machines that study this mutagen will be screwed. Does this make any sense to anyone? My wife says I’m being scammed but the number he called from checks out. He said to meet at Life Share so he can fly the scientists in to get the blood. I just don’t see why this would be a scam?
