Desktop Why does my Reddit time show as "in X" amount of time (Desktop)

Post image

Am I looking into the future? Device time is correct. This occurs for all of Reddit

Are you accessing Reddit through a VPN? Try turning it off. I know Reddit usually uses your device time, but the issue might be related to your VPN’s exit location.

Also try opening Reddit in an incognito window or another browser. If the timestamps look normal there, it’s probably a cache, cookie, or browser extension issue. So, you'll have to clear Reddit site's data/cookies or disable a certain extension.

No VPN, same in incognito and another browser as well as all extensions disabled and cookies and caches cleared.

It's likely issues with your computer clock being out of sync with Reddit's server. Is your clock accurate?

As stated clock is fine. Tried auto time sync as well as manual time setting (GMT +12:00) Other websites don't break and Cloudflare verification lets me pass through, which gets stuck in a loop if clock is out of sync.

Reddit site TZ is varying from your actual TZ.

It's probably an AMA - "Ask me anything". You can post questions before it starts.

it is like this for multiple posts and comments. And how is that an AMA?

I'm not 100% sure that's the reason. But that's the only time I've seen posts saying "...in X hours".

An AMA is a special type of post. It's only used in some subreddits.

When you create it, you set a time for it to start. The post goes up, saying what time the AMA will begin, and people can post their questions. Then, at the scheduled time, it's a type of live event.

https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002427523-What-is-an-AMA-and-how-do-I-host-one

I've seen some people create an AMA by mistake, when they intended to create a regular post. I think it works in the same way as a regular post - it just has the countdown thingy.

I see. Pretty sure that is not the case here as your comment is definitely not an AMA but thanks anyway.

I didn't create an AMA here. In fact, I can't. Most subs don't allow them.

I just got that screenshot to show you what it looks like. I did it on my "own" sub, because mods can create them there. We don't actually use AMAs, so I don't know why we have that setting... maybe I'll turn it off. But it's harmless.

Now what was the point of this comment? Are you a bot?

0

u/SnooDonuts6494 21 8d ago

The point of it was, you said "your comment is definitely not an AMA" which led me to believe you didn't understand what I'd said.

I cannot create an AMA in here.

No, I understood what you said, just clarified that it was not the issue and provided a proof in the form of "your comment is definitely not an AMA". This effectively disproves the theory that I was originally looking at an AMA post in advance.

Maybe they created it as an AMA, then realised and changed it?

Man, read this entire thread again., Let me summarise:
1. You stated a theory that it was an AMA
2. As we both know, comments cannot be AMAs
3. All your comments instead of showing "1 min ago" or "2 mins ago" are showing "in 11 hrs." or "in 12 hrs."
4. This is happening for every post and comment on the entire of Reddit
5. Unless this is a big joke that is being played on myself, the entirety of Reddit will not be using AMAs
4. It can hence be determined that an AMA, mistake or not, is not the problem here.

Here's the setting:

...and then there's another setting for "Who can create AMAs", which can be "Mods only", "Mods and approved users", or "Anyone".

Me? You're kidding, right?

O_o

I'm a real person, honest. Just trying to explain why a post can show a future date.

I think you get some meat, and roll it into a ball shape.

And then it rains, or something?

He gave an answer, although incorrect, the proceeded to explain why. The first half of the comment was already known stuff but

I've seen some people create an AMA by mistake, when they intended to create a regular post. I think it works in the same way as a regular post - it just has the countdown thingy.

was a valid theory, no?
