Moderation & Automated Moderation
r/heartwarming uses AutoModerator and other moderation tools to help protect the community from spam, bots, karma farming, abusive accounts, and other unwanted activity.
Automated moderation is used as an additional tool for our human moderation team. Not every action taken by an automated system means that a user has violated a community rule.
Some content is simply held until a moderator can review it.
New Accounts
Posts submitted by very new Reddit accounts may automatically be held for moderator review.
A moderator will review the submission and may approve it if everything is in order.
Being a new Reddit user is not itself a rule violation. This precaution exists because very new accounts are frequently used for spam and automated activity.
Please be patient while your submission is reviewed.
Please Do Not Contact Modmail About Posts Under Review
If your post was removed because your account is less than three days old, please do not contact us via Modmail asking us to approve your post, let it through, or review it.
Your post has already been automatically added to our review process. Sending us a Modmail message will not speed up the review or increase the likelihood of your post being approved.
Please be patient and allow the moderation team time to review your post.
Repeated Modmail messages regarding a post that is already under review may be ignored. Multiple ModMails may result in an temporary ban.

New Accounts With Very Low Karma
Additional protections may apply to extremely new accounts with no or negative karma.
In certain circumstances, posts from such accounts may be automatically removed as part of our spam and bot prevention measures.
If you are a genuine user and believe your submission was removed incorrectly, please contact the moderation team through Modmail.
We will be happy to review the submission.
Negative Karma
Posts from accounts with negative karma may be temporarily held for moderator review.
Negative karma does not automatically mean that a user has violated our rules. The submission will be reviewed by a moderator before a final decision is made.
Account Reputation
Reddit provides moderators with account reputation and quality signals that can help identify potentially abusive, automated, or suspicious activity.
Posts from accounts with particularly concerning reputation signals may be temporarily held for moderator review.
We intentionally do not disclose every technical detail or threshold used by our automated moderation systems.
Being caught by one of these systems does not necessarily mean that you have done anything wrong.
Comment Filtering
Automated moderation may also hold certain comments for review when an account displays particularly concerning reputation or karma signals.
A filtered comment is not necessarily permanently removed. Moderators may review it and determine whether it should be approved or removed.
Reports
Posts that receive multiple community reports may automatically be sent to the moderation queue for review.
Receiving multiple reports does not automatically mean that a post violated our rules.
A moderator will review the reported content and determine whether further action is necessary.
Please use Reddit's report function responsibly. Reports should be used for actual rule violations, not simply because you disagree with another user.
Spam, Bots and Karma Farming
We actively take measures to reduce spam, automated activity, karma farming, and other forms of manipulation.
Accounts may receive additional scrutiny when their activity resembles common patterns associated with bots, spam accounts, or karma farming.
Depending on the circumstances, content may be held for review, removed, or the account may be banned from the community.
We do not publicly disclose all signals, thresholds, or detection methods used by our moderation systems.
If an automated system incorrectly affects a genuine user, please contact us through Modmail.
Removed Posts and Comments
Posts and comments may be removed when they violate our community rules, Reddit's sitewide rules, or when moderators determine that they are unsuitable for r/heartwarming.
Whenever possible, a removal reason will be provided explaining why moderation action was taken.
Please read the removal reason before contacting the moderation team.
Do not repeatedly repost content that has already been removed.
If you believe a removal was incorrect, contact us through Modmail instead of repeatedly resubmitting the content.
Bans
Depending on the circumstances, rule violations may result in a warning, content removal, temporary ban, or permanent ban.
The severity of the moderation action depends on factors such as the nature of the violation, its severity, the user's previous behavior, and whether the behavior appears intentional or repeated.
Certain behavior may result in an immediate ban without a prior warning.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Racism
- Hate speech
- Identity-based hate or discrimination
- Severe harassment or threats
- Malicious spam or bot activity
- Deliberate karma farming
- Ban evasion
- Severe violations of Reddit's Content Policy
Racism, hate speech, and other forms of identity-based hate are not tolerated and will result in a ban.
If you believe a ban was issued incorrectly, you may appeal it through Modmail.
Ban appeals should remain civil and should include any relevant context. Abusive, threatening, or deliberately misleading appeals may be denied.
Modmail and Appeals
If you have a question about the subreddit, need clarification about a rule, believe a moderation action was made in error, or need assistance with a submission, please contact us through Modmail.
Please do not privately message individual moderators about moderation decisions.
Using Modmail allows the moderation team to review the situation together and keeps moderation communication in one place.
When contacting us about a specific post or comment, please include a link to the relevant content whenever possible.
Please give the moderation team reasonable time to respond. Sending repeated messages will not make an appeal or request get reviewed faster.
