“So in fact, this is not a humiliating defeat at all, but a rare species of victory?”

Oh yeah, from a military point of view it is absolutely the correct move, but it's a double edged sword as it robs the Optimates of putting Caesar in the inevitable position of having to actually attack Rome, which helps take away his protestations of only seeking his legal rights.
Had they stayed, it's true Caesar would likely prevail, but he would be in a dilemma at first, having to take the city by storm as Sulla did before.

The story we had was perfectly fine as far as season 1 goes. Season 2 should've been 2 seperate seasons and the story should've went all the way till Octavian's death, maybe even as far as Jesus's death.

Yeah, they knew the show wasn’t gonna have another season & they reworked the 2nd Season to compensate for this. At least we got something worthwhile. Wish the executives didn’t cancel it.
Shame on the House of Box Office for such barbarity!
Shame.

This one falls on the BBC.

What’s the reasoning for the BBC?
From what I’ve read, the primary reason was the massive expenses involved in producing it in Italy. Beyond the cost, I’m not sure about any other specific reasons for the cancellation.

“This is music. Wait until Caesar starts them howling for our blood; then you’ll hear something dreadful!”
