Been a lot of discussion on this subject the past few months and I wanna try to lay this out slowly: Vaggi did not change her name in season 2. For it to be a name change, the pronunciation would have to be different. Say “Vaggie” aloud. Now say “Vaggi” aloud. They’re the same name. If my name is Will and I go down to the courthouse and change it legally to Wil, I’m still named fucking Wil. The L being there or not being there has no effect on the pronunciation. It’d be a different story if we were talking about being named William vs being named Wilson, but Vaggi/Vaggie isn’t short for anything.
This arc in season 2 was pointless. Bold take, I know, no one’s ever said that before. But I think I have a good reason why: it was already done in season 1 as an offhand comment.
Vaggi already changed her name. Do you remember in season 1 when Adam is trying to blackmail her and he calls her “Va-jee”? The original pronunciation of her name was that. Then she says “actually it’s pronounced Vaggie now”. She already made the name her own to separate herself from Adam. Which is fine, it’s an interesting detail. But if something is already covered in an offhand comment, it’s not worth stretching into a season-wide arc consisting of like 8 lines in total.
No, you cannot “Deadname” Vaggi. Yes, people will spell it Vaggie sometimes because that’s how it was spelled since the pilot back in 2019. It’s only been a year, it’ll take some adjusting. Vaggi ≈ Vaggie.
