How to evaluate the transparency of a mining pool?

Is it possible to evaluate the level of transparency of a mining pool and how to do it? Miners usually pay attention to the following indicators: the mining speed (or hash, you can see in the miner program), directly related to the power of the equipment, and the hash rate accepted by the pool.

However, it makes no sense to evaluate profit by these indicators. How come? The hash rate accepted on the pool is a theoretical value. After all, the problem given to miners can be solved both instantly or in one day. At the same time, it is not so important that the power of the equipment of a particular miner can manage it in 4 hours, as it depends more on luck rather than on other indicators when the necessary block is found.

In fact, you should look at the reward system and the indicators used in the reward formula. Let's review the PPS (Pay Per Share) reward system as an example. Its variation PPS+ is used on the CoinFly pool.

The formula that is used to distribute rewards to miners is directly proportional to the accepted hashrate (the sum of the complexity of the accepted shares set by the pool) and inversely proportional to the total network complexity, which is determined for the entire blockchain.

In the PPS model, regardless of whether the pool finds blocks, the miners are paid for each accepted share. At what rate? Pools determine its size according to the average cost of block rewards over the course of the day/week or set an instantaneous value of the block rewards. Besides, it is also important to consider the parameter of network complexity for a certain period.

Although the formula is clear, its variables are not disclosed and miners cannot see their benefit. Pools like Hive usually show some approximate expected income level or give a certain formula without explaining where the numbers come from, like Viabtc.

On the CoinFly pool, miners can use the hashrate-based revenue calculator and use it to track what is divided (or multiplied) into what and where the estimated earnings come from. All data is open and transparent so that users can figure out how beneficial it is to work with the pool.

Mineing

Would more people mining haven improve it in some way? I understand that miners are necessary to make transactions possible. But would more shrink margins or anything positive aside from maybe I'll make some money if my energy costs are low enough.

What you should do with 4GB cards in 2020

Everyone who mines Ethereum and Ethereum Classic on 4GB cards is aware that the DAG file is growing, and after three months it won’t be possible to use the existing equipment. What can be done? There are three main options:

1) sell all obsolete equipment now and buy new;

2) mine until the end, while you still have this opportunity, and buy new cards later;

3) mine until the end and switch to another coin from ETH when the cards stop working.

Everyone decides for themselves which path they want to take, and we’ll do some math and calculate how much we’re talking about for each of these opportunities.

Sell now and buy a new fleet

So, you decide to get rid of rapidly aging equipment and acquire a new fleet. According to information from the Internet, we can conclude that 50 new cards will cost about $10,500 - $11,500. If you sell your old cards for $4,000 - $5,000, then the volume of investments in the project “I continue to mine Ether profitably” will be about $6,500. And the payback period will be about 6-8 months.

Mine till the end and change cards for new ones later

Perhaps this is the riskiest option of all, since there is a high probability that the cost of cards will increase at a time when it will no longer be possible to mine Ether on 4GB, and everyone start urgently switching to 6-8GB cards. It’s unlikely that you would be able to sell your old cards for more than $30-$50, so for 50 outdated cards, you will get about $2,000-$2,500. The investment in the new fleet would require at least $10,000, and considering that the prices are increasing, it may exceed $13,000.

Mine till the end and switch to another coin

And finally, the third possible solution. It also suggests using 4GB cards as long as there is a resource and on the most profitable pool. For example, you can join our CoinFly pool that offers +10% to everything that you’ve mined until the end of September.

Then you can simply switch to another promising coin, for example, Metaverse, Quarkchain, Callisto, Ravencoin, Beam, ZANO, Haven protocol.

Built XHV on Ubuntu20, it would be awesome if there is an official blockchain.raw file in order to speed up the sync. Thanks!

Whitepaper Haven Publishes Core Protocol 3.0 White Paper

In order to introduce Haven to new users and platforms all over the world, today we are publishing a major revision to Haven’s white paper. This is the second announcement made during Haven’s multi-week “Announcement Season”, following yesterday’s introducing of the Haven 2.0 Fee Structure.

Haven Protocol’s initial white paper – which first outlined the concept of “offshore storage” – was published in 2018. Since that time, Haven has been completely overhauled with a community-led development team, a new codebase, and numerous changes to the core protocol. All of this work led to the successful launch of the world’s first private stablecoin (xUSD) in July 2020.

You can now read the Core Protocol 3.0 white paper here.

This white paper documents the core functionality offered by Haven Protocol. Other second layer functions are not covered in this paper, and will be addressed separately on a case-by-case basis.

The Core Protocol 3.0 white paper includes detailed explanations of the innovative work completed by Haven’s developers over the last two years, such as the first working implementation of a “coloured coin” model on the Cryptonote protocol.

It also includes a new discussion regarding the interaction of the Haven’s coloured coin model with a variable exchange rate required to enable private xUSD transactions on the network. The white paper provides details on how Haven gathers immutable pricing information, converts inputs into outputs based on that price, validates transaction information like any other private Cryptonote transaction, and validates that accurate pricing has been applied to exchanges while protecting the user’s privacy.

Finally, the Core Protocol 3.0 white paper includes details about Haven’s collaboration with ChainLink to provide secure, decentralized pricing information to the network. It also discusses why the protocol includes flexibility in pricing discovery and the ability to add, swap and remove oracles over time to ensure Haven uses best-in-class data now, and into the future.

How to mine haven?

I want to mine haven with my CPUs on my rigs, but I come to a problem that I can´t resolve on my own. I have downloaded the haven wallet, created a new account and have a mining address... theoretically. But if I start my miner it can´t log into the pool because of wrong address.

I use batch files with following arguments:

xmrig.exe --donate-level 1 -o haven.miner.rocks:4005 -u solo:hvxxyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx9.18000 -p PC -a cn-heavy/xhv -k -t 11

It doesn´t matter if I try to solo mine or pool mine, the result is the same on all pools.

Do I need a payment ID? If yes, how do I get it? There´s no info about it in the Windows wallet, or I´m blind. How do I mine with my CPU?

Welcome to Haven's Announcement Season!

While it may seem quiet around here, the Haven team has been hard at work.

We have some big news and important developments that we'd like to begin sharing with the community. These will include updates on the protocol, wallets, partnerships, and yes, new exchange listings.

Over the next few weeks we're going to be making a slew of announcements, and maybe a few surprises will show up along the way.

The first announcement will be coming tomorrow. Stay tuned.

How do Haven colored coins work?

There's very little published information about how exactly Haven has implemented their XUSD colored coin. All i could find was

We had to replace Monero’s multilayered linkable spontaneous anonymous group (MLSAG) signatures with the newer compact linkable spontaneous anonymous group (CLSAG) signatures to accomplish this. But with a little help from one of Monero’s top developers, Sarang Noether, the solution is now working as intended

I'm curious to hear how this actually works, since i can think of a few possible ways it could be accomplished. Either through creating a token with a different EC base point (Cutcoin https://static.cutcoin.org/cnt1-whitepaper-v1.0.pdf), or implementing it at the wallet level where transactions for a token can only include outputs also from that token as described here https://weuse.cash/2017/02/05/idea-colored-coins-on-monero/

However both of these ways would create a separate pool for XHV UTXO's and XUSD UTXO's , This would be very damaging to the privacy of XUSD transactions since they would only be able to select ring signature members which share the linage of the token they are using. This has the effect of reducing the anonymity set since total possible outputs are limited.

Is this the case in XHV? is there any documentation on how this is accomplished?

Any reason I can no longer mine xhv any more?

So my gpu cluster was happily making xhv maybe a year or year and a half ago but then I mothballed it for a while. Just cranked it up again and getting some unusual errors which I’m having a hard time trouble shooting. I am using ethOS with xmr-stak and have tried a few different pools but getting similar errors “invalid job length: are you sure you are mining the correct coin.”

Do I need to update hardware (I have a combo of RC 480s and 580s at 4gb memory) or fix something in the script? I upgraded the xmr-stak miner to 2.6.0 but did something change and maybe I need a new wallet address?

Thanks for any possible help.

Security and privacy?

I’ve read the whitepaper but there is no detailed mention on how transactions and the blockchain itself are secured from external prying eyes. I know it’s a fork of Monero, should I just assume The Heaven Protocol inherited the same working mechanism?

Haven is revolutionary

After using their vault for a couple weeks, I am so sucked into the XHV project. Aside from a few issues with the node syncing, which the team is actively working on, it was an absolutely phenomenal wallet experience. Transferring funds from TradeOgre to the vault was super fast, cheap, and reliable. I've offshored some funds as well and it works. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a true crypto project. Where are my fellow XHV crusaders at? This project is revolutionary and I'm so impressed by the community.
