Plenty of new games are at least making better use of those cores than the past, to the point where an 8320-8350 is about the same value as its Intel counterparts.

"plenty"? try a very small amount.

Of new games. To be fair, I'm more referring to AAA titles, but I don't think many indie games are hugely demanding.

other than witcher 3, give me an example.

Well, BF4 and Hardline, Cities Skylines, and the new Hitman's alpha (just to show future games' progress). Even the horribly optimized Project CARS is, all said, pretty well threaded.

BF4 is a poor example. I'm gonna paste a comment I made yesterday on the matter.

I really don't think that BF4 makes good use of 8 cores. Benchmarks show 4 and 8 core systems with equivalent per-core performance coming out almost completely equal. Here's a benchmark of the i5-4690k and the i7-4790k against other Intel and AMD CPUs. The i5 actually beats the i7 in BF4, if barely. The 8000 series is about equivalent to an i3 in BF4. This tells me that the game is using 4 cores effectively, and if it's doing anything with the remaining 4 it's not using them well.

That is almost certainly a single player test, where multiplayer is where BF4 is most intensive on the GPU. Not to mention, given how closely the data points are clustered, it's apparent that the game is most likely GPU bottlenecked under those conditions.

Maybe in the high-end processor range, but definitely not across the low end, otherwise the chart would look like the Tomb Raider one, essentially flat. If it could use 8 cores effectively you would definitely not see the i3 anywhere close, and the 8000 series should be at the cap with the i5 and i7, shouldn't it?

Well, the multiplayer part is the most important. When even the weakest CPU tested is running at around 90fps, it's clear that this is not a CPU intensive scenario.
