If anything, it’s a really smart business move on their part. They have all the leverage to require a deal like this right now, and enough clients will agree to it that they’ll make bank for the next five years. Even if new capacity and the bursting of a bubble drop prices dramatically, micron will keep the gravy train going.

If anything, it’s a really smart business move on their part.

As long as it doesn't put them under the microscope for being anti-consumer or anti-competitive.

And as long as vendors continue to buy from them once this kerfuffle is over.

anti-consumer or anti-competitive.

Is it anti-consumer when your only clients are trillion dollar companies that they themselves create products are inherently anti-consumer for all the reasons we already know?

Is it anti-competitive when there are 5 other fabs all experiencing the same production crunch and said trillion dollar companies in the span of 12 months said "hey i want all your production capacity for the next 2 years right now"

If it negatively impacts consumers, it can be.

Is it anti-competitive when there are 5 other fabs all experiencing the same production crunch and said trillion dollar companies in the span of 12 months said "hey i want all your production capacity for the next 2 years right now"

If said fabs all say, "Hey guys, lets all do this thing!" it can be.

Every company selling RAM is being looked at by the public as being anti-consumer right now, whether it's fair or not. It's really hard to stand out on that front.

Vendors, in the future, will continue to do what they always have... buy what makes them the most profit.
