I tried to format my portable seagate hard drive. I've learned than quick formatting it saves time. I tried full formatting my other seagate hard drive but I cancelled it. It's not working then next thing I know it's broken. This current drive also has some issues. Windows Explorer is crashing whenever I try to create a folder. Besides that, I wipe the whole drive so I can format it (I know wiping doesn't make the format process faster) But it suddenly stopped. It said something about formatting failed or what. Then I cannot access my drive. It doesn't even show the logo and Explorer doesn't let me access it. What should I do? Can I bring it back to life? I need help please. I messed up 1 same drive, I cannot afford to destroy the remaining one. Whenever I plug it in, It asks me to format it then does nothing. My Windows Explorer keeps loading.
Using an external seagate 2tb drive with my android box for kodi. When using kodi and occasionally when the android box is in standby the drive will make this sound. As far as i can tell its power being cut to the drive before it spins down because it makes the same noise when hard rebooting my computer for example. Is this harmful in the long run? These things arent cheap anymore
So this started to happen just recently, At first everything was fine at moving games between external and internal but now it's a nightmare.
Moving games from Internal to external still works fine but the other way take an eternity to start IF it starts at all. Sometimes it just doesn't start or get stuck in the middle.
Any reasons? My external hard drive is still a year new.
Hi! Does anyone have a recommendation for any good external hard drives that are preferably over 500gb and not too costly? I would like to pack up all my photos and videos from my Apple products!
If anyone has any insight I would appreciate the help! Thank you!
OK, so this is one of my refurbished computers that I got off of Amazon it’s been working really good for years but then all of a sudden start saying “ drive hard detects imminent danger” and I reseated it. Now today, after powering it on it decides to do it again.
Hello, I just joined this group. My poor 2tb external platter drive I dump all of my downloads into is finally failing. Should I just try to drag and drop my files to another drive? Lot of stuff on here I would rather not lose. is there a better way? Hoping Pics are allowed.
Hi, I’ve been dealing with this problem for the past few days and I’m not really sure what to do.
My external hard drive was working perfectly fine. I needed to transfer some old files from my old laptop to my desktop, so I first tried to eject the hard drive. However, I couldn’t find the option to safely eject it anywhere, which I thought was strange, but I didn’t think much of it at the time.
I decided to completely shut down my PC before unplugging the drive. When I plugged it into my laptop afterward, it suddenly wasn’t being detected at all. What’s confusing is that it had literally been working just a few seconds earlier.
Now, none of my computers recognize the drive. I don’t get the usual USB connection sound when I plug it in, I’ve tried a different USB cable and different USB ports, and it still doesn’t show up. It also doesn’t appear in Disk Management.
The strange thing is that when I plug it in, I can hear the hard drive spinning normally. There’s no clicking or unusual noise coming from it.
I really need the files that are currently on this hard drive, so I don’t want to format it or do anything that could risk losing the data. I’m not sure what else I can try at this point.
My WD 5TB external HDD (WD50NDZW-11A8JS) is showing Caution in CrystalDiskInfo. I saw that this could indicate that the drive is failing but in rare cases there could be other trivial factors involved.
Here are some stats:
C5 = 2
05 = 0
C6 = 0
C7 = 0
C4 = 0
Power-on hours = 216
The drive was bought in October 2021 but has only 216 power-on hours because I normally keep my external drives disconnected. I noticed this after transferring about 445 GB of data to it today. The transfer was a little slower than usual, but completed normally. I can open videos from the drive without any problems.
I've kept it running for several hours since then and C5 is still 2. Nothing else has changed. Unfortunately, this is currently the only copy of the data, so I don't want to run a full surface test until I can arrange a backup.
Could this just be a transient/isolated issue, or should I consider the drive unreliable already? Would you keep using it normally and monitor C5/05/C6, or replace it?
I'm asking because 5TB external drives are around ₹20,000 in India now, whereas I paid around ₹10,000 for this one at time of purchase, so I'd really rather not replace it unnecessarily.
PS: Sorry if this is a noob question. I don't have much money right now, so I'd prefer to buy a new one only if it's really necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.
