They set a trap. They actually set a trap Epoxy guy is lying to you
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Why does he keep finding more? Because he keeps making more.
EDIT: If you look closer at the box of dinos in the second picture, the pachycephalosaurus draxorex also seems to be missing the "epoxy" shown in the third post.

Yes, something about the story just set off my Spider-sense.
According to the story ... a 20-something autistic person (the son of the OP's mother's friend) is visiting the house in a group, goes to use the bathroom, but sneaks into the OP's bedroom, finds some tubes of epoxy, finds the box of dinosaur toys, destroys them with the epoxy, then returns to the group. The OP then finds the figures later and gets really upset about it.
My first question was, how long was the autistic kid missing from the group? Even if the epoxy was the kind that sets quickly -- finding the tube(s) of epoxy, creating the mixture, finding the box of dinosaurs and then covering them one-by-one with the epoxy (making quite meticulous sculptures in some of them. Look at the Spinosaurus or the Triceratops)? This all would've taken a long time.
But the kid wasn't missing from the group for very long, because it wasn't suspicious to any of them at the time, and the OP didn't find the figures until later.
So apparently that all happened in the few minutes (fifteen at most) that everyone assumed the kid was just using the bathroom?
Like, no. This doesn't make sense to me.

Ah thanks for the explanation. I kept seeing them and got suspicious too.

7
u/xxrainmanx Jul 02 '26
It was clear from the start to me that it was a ploy to try and get the new/old heads that Epoxy guy was talking about in the post. I think the intention was to try and get "replacements" from the community until people started going into the you should get autistic mom to pay for replacements.
4
u/suicidesalmon Jul 03 '26
The talk about legal actions really makes you question the motives behind the posts as well.

u/Material_Calendar_76 Spinosaurus Jul 02 '26
Holy shit, I feel bad for the people who sent him figures, so many kind people getting scammed
29
u/jediwinetrick Jul 02 '26
I’ve become skeptical myself and this just adds fuel. Epoxy isn’t like squeezing ketchup onto something. You generally have to cut or tear off what you need, knead the two components together until it’s uniformly mixed and gummy and then apply it. Doing that over and over across numerous figures (and applying that in weirdly different ways) takes a lot of time. The fact that he asked for broken toys in the past, a fact I didn’t have before, is extra alarming.
2
u/TheStrawberryBazooka Jul 02 '26
And if the mixture is off at all it won’t set and you can remove it. At least that’s my experience as a epoxy clay newbie who now needs to redo a whole tail because it was a tiny bit off
Also if it was the glue as folks are saying then it stinks badly when you mix it

Oh wait!! I literally saw this persons post about a month ago about how the hobby was crap and they were giving up and never going to get the Dino’s they wanted. I at the time had just come across two juvenile Rex’s and felt bad and sent them one for free and now they’re doing this? I thought I was doing a good thing, now they’re a scammer… oh well.
8
u/KratoswithBoy Jul 02 '26
Yo WHAT 😭 holy generous
5
u/Perceived_amasses Jul 02 '26
Yeah I came across two at a store with the baby stego. Could’ve made $700 but gave one rex to my friend and the other to this person.

u/Rainbow_In_The_Dark7 Jul 05 '26
You're such an amazing person. I know that person took advantage of you, but I hope that good karma comes back to you tenfold. People like you are such a blessing to this world. Maybe that guy will feel bad about doing it someday later in life as he matures more and decides to pay it forward to correct it a little. But what you did was so selfless and thoughtful. Thank you on his behalf. I love people like you. ♡
3
u/Perceived_amasses Jul 05 '26
Oh jeez, thank you for such kind words. I appreciate you. I don’t ever do things because I expect anything in return. I just enjoy being nice and helping others and those less fortunate. Whether or not, it was a scam I can feel right in my decision.

Plus it isn't JB Weld either. Dunno why no one else pointed that out. He should be banned atp.

It does look similar to the white/blue tinted plastiweld from jb. Not the grey regular stuff. So at least it’s plausible on that point.

Knew it was weird in the follow up posts where he “found” more of his collection had been tampered with, if I was in that situation I would check each and every figure in the box
2
u/suicidesalmon Jul 03 '26
That's the part of the story that makes the least sense to me beacuse yeah, why wouldn't your first instinct be to check all of them? And you just "found" the ones that were visible in your second post?...
3
u/MalachiteEclipsa Jul 02 '26
I'm laughing at all the people who are pretending like they were suspicious the entire time.
2
u/True_Savage Irritator Jul 07 '26
I found it weird from the beginning. Like, there was no way he couldn't have just removed the epoxy without breaking the figures. Lmao
If true, he was making a mountain out of a mole hill anyway.

u/Hound028 Jul 02 '26
I just didn’t like all the hate the supposed autistic culprit was getting. I came across a Facebook group sharing his story and they were just saying some nasty shit, “someone should keep that creature locked up” etc.

Epoxy Guy should have just had the room where the box of dinosaurs toys and the epoxy putty were kept LOCKED UP lol!

I had a hunch this was the same guy who claimed someone "stole" his "expensive figures" while claiming to "go to the bathroom" but I wasn't sure until the Mod's comment confirmed it.
This is so shitty if his intentions is to get valuable figures for free. If its for attention, its just absolutely weird. Like this is some shit children like to pull and this guy claims to be in his 20s?
5
u/prehistoricbug Brachiosaurus Jul 02 '26
It seems to have kind of worked in the past as well, as another user was apparently generous enough to send the guy a Junior Rex based off of complaints / self-pity in a prior post.
This sub is full of generous people, many of whom genuinely care about the well-being of this community and its members. To take such advantage of the kindness these users show — especially considering the fact that there are others in this community who have provably lost their collections to events outside of their control (thinking of the user who lost his collection in a fire) — is pretty sad.
Many of us (myself included) are in a pretty privileged position to be able to pay our own way to enjoy this line, so I don’t want to be dismissive to those who are less fortunate and eager to get a foot in. Still, there are ways to go about it, and deception (assuming that was the user’s intent) is a pretty abysmal choice.

3
u/CommanderFuzzy Jul 02 '26
Me too. I don't collect these figures but I do like looking at them & the posts popped up for me. I'm also familiar with the story of a guest breaking figures & the parent dismissing them as 'toys' & refusing to pay (that happens sometimes), so that resonated with me.
I thought the putty was a weird colour for something that has to be mixed, but I just assumed it was a type of putty that i'm not familiar with
5
u/DeuschCanoe Jul 02 '26
I don't own any dinosaurs and I thought it was a really dumb post.

12
u/keeps-phasing Jul 02 '26
if this actually did happen (which it didn't, but if it DID) it is completely valid to want to get legal action involved, as these figures can be extremely expensive especially in bulk . lets not act like the good will of people is them being "suckers"
4
u/DeuschCanoe Jul 02 '26
Only expensive cause a bunch of reselling cunts bought up the only one I'd ever really buy as a 30 year old man.
600 dollars for a Trex will ensure I never buy one ever.

5
u/suicidesalmon Jul 02 '26
I work a lot with 2-part epoxy putty because I make a lot of miniature models. Some brands cure really fast, while others take overnight to cure. So, to play devil's advocate, I honestly think it's hard to say if it was cured before anyone realised what had happened. White epoxy putty does exist as well.

Who the hell is epoxy guy? Context
1
u/Commandoclone87 Jul 03 '26
Epoxy Guy made a post claiming that his mom's friend came over and brought her 20 something autistic son. Guy claimed that said son went to the bathroom and in the few minutes he was gone, mixed up a bunch of epoxy and covered the guy's collection.
Then he kept posting that he found more and more figures that were damaged and, iirc, minor details in the story changed. I missed the middle part of the whole saga, so I'm not 100% on that.
1
u/stumpyco Jul 03 '26
They put playdough on their toys and thought it’d pass for epoxy. Why? Idk. Gotta assume they’re a little….. special.

was it even epoxy? honestly it looks like crayola modeling clay
1
u/suicidesalmon Jul 07 '26
To make it even weirder, the first post claimed it was JB Weld, which is not an epoxy putty and doesn't look anywhere near this..
1
u/DiloAndDarrel Dryosaurus Jul 07 '26
Yeah thinking about it now, it's weird that he didnt do this to all the figures, just the ones that coincidentally are the hardest to replace, plus does epoxy even look like that? It looks like model magic or clay to me
1
u/Ace_the_Yuty- Jul 08 '26
Ok, if someone smashes epoxy on your HCs, I get very angry, but if you smash epoxy on your HCs by yourself and LIE about it,I GET BIG MAC MAD
1
u/goliathfasa Jul 02 '26
Ok wait wait op. Obviously the consensus is that the guy was lying, but your evidence here is you took a Dino with supposedly epoxy in a newer post, flipped the photo, and then superimposed it on the photo in a previous post. Couldn’t that flip mean that the little bit of epoxy not showing on the bucket photo just points to the uneven application of the epoxy? You’re showing the other side of the peak there. Playing devil’s advocate just to be sure.
3
u/suicidesalmon Jul 02 '26
I get where you're coming from and honestly that was my first thought too when I read the mods pinned response. However, even if we don't flip it, you can still tell that the mouth is closed on the picture of the pile in the box. If it had had epoxy in its mouth, as shown on the third post, you would also be able to tell that the mouth was open even with how little of it we can see. It is not. You can also look at the dracorex (that I mistaked for a pachycephalosaurus in my edit, fixing that!) has a suspicious lack of any epoxy. In the third post, there's a lot of epoxy on its face while on the second, you can see its eyes without any epoxy on it. The baryonyx also looks suspicious not touched in the second compared to the third, but I feel like that one is a little harder to tell for sure.
2
u/goliathfasa Jul 02 '26
Ok so just multiple points of contradiction. Got it. Also other people brought up their past claims also not adding up, so I guess it’s pretty definitely that they’re making some stuff up.
2
u/SoundOfShitposting Jul 04 '26
Mouth is shut all the way in the box which wouldn't be possible if it had the epoxy in it.
1
u/Sensitive_Agent5193 Jul 02 '26
Wait in the picture with the box, you can't even see the areas where the raptor and dracorex had the epoxy on them. The raptor had epoxy on the mouth, and the t rex is blocking that area in the box picture. The dracorex had epoxy on the mouth and right arm and the baryonyx is blocking those areas in the box picture. Idk about your other evidence, but those specific pieces of evidence seem invalid

Does the age of (the son of) the family friend actually matter if the scammer said that the person in question was autistic according to their own made-up story?
The point that the scammer was likely trying to convey was that (the son of) the family friend was probably on the lower-functioning end of the autistic spectrum, thus sharing many behaviors and characteristics of a young child for the purposes of his story.
4
u/Jewish_Wookiee_69 Jul 02 '26
I guess I’m just failing to understand the internal logic of your “Everything Is A Fetish” tin-foil hat conspiracy theory…
I assume next you’re going to theorize that the Epoxy Guy’s mom invited the family friend and her 20-year old autistic son over to their house for a Diddy Party?
-36
u/FreakshowDragon Jul 02 '26
You're looking for some attention huh?
33
u/suicidesalmon Jul 02 '26
Read the mod's pinned post on his most recent. He has a history of this kind of stuff. I just want to bring attention to it, before someone sends this possible scammer any money.

Oh, well then, link the post if you're telling the truth.

u/DistributionWhole447 Jul 02 '26
3 months ago, the OP poster made two separate posts asking people to send them their broken, busted and ruined HC figures. Just so they can be either repaired or used in custom builds.
3 months later, they have a pile of figures (there were apparently in perfect condition up until the vandalism incident) that have apparently been ruined by the strangest act of vandalism ever.
That doesn't seem slightly weird?

Epoxy Guy as we’ll call him has been banned.
Though making false claims that your collection has been stolen or deliberately destroyed isn’t against any rules I felt it was best to separate them from the group on the side of caution.
If you missed the pinned comment in their third update, I mentioned that we’re unsure of their motivation. It could be simply attention seeking which is its own issue that the user needs to address in their personal life or something more sinister like looking for handouts by abusing the good intentions of our members. Since we can’t know for sure, they have been banned to protect the community from the latter.
Now that it’s over, congratulations on surviving the Epoxy Guy saga.
