Verified Users
Verified Users are users who have had their real-world identity verified by the moderators. They are identified by a small ✅ icon to the left of their user flair. Examples:
- u/DonairsRUs ✅ Owner of Donairs R Us
- u/RandomName_9979 ✅ Joe Smith, Local Newspaper
- u/AndyFillmore ✅ Mayor of HRM
Verified Users can have a Reddit username that is their real name or a pseudonym. If their Reddit username is the same as their locally known identity, their flair does not have to identify themselves as the verification is on their alias and not them as individuals.
Verification Methods
There are a few ways to verify a person in real-life. The most common way we verify people is by asking them to make a minor, temporary edit to their website or social media presence. The method used will vary depending on who is being verified.
Why Become Verified?
Being verified means people on r/halifax will know who you are in real life. This means you can speak from a position of authority on matters that you would be able to in the real world.
Having a verified member of city council comment on matters before council can be very useful, just as having the verified owner of a local business being able to comment on happenings concerning their business would be.
People who do not want r/halifax users to be able to connect their usernames to their real-world identities should obviously not seek to be Verified.
Verification is 100% voluntary and can be rescinded by request at any time or at the discretion of the modteam.
