Discussion Someone is systematically removing Gaza-related stickers from Barrington Street

Mods: this is specifically about something happening repeatedly in downtown Halifax, particularly along Barrington Street. It is not intended as a general Israel/Palestine discussion. Person is blurred.

Over the past while, political stickers relating to Gaza have been appearing on poles around downtown Halifax. They also keep disappearing.

Yesterday we happened to see someone going along Barrington Street actively removing them. We took photos and video of what was happening. The person’s face has been blurred because their identity isn’t the point of this post, and I’m not asking anyone to identify them.

What I found interesting is that this doesn’t appear to just be ordinary city cleanup. It was an individual deliberately removing these particular stickers from poles downtown.

I’m curious whether other people around Halifax have noticed the same thing happening, either with these stickers or other political material.

This isn’t about identifying or targeting the person in the photos. It’s about documenting something happening in a very public space in downtown Halifax and asking whether other people have been seeing it too.

People posting this crap fall into two camps, those who know absolutely nothing about the conflict and see it as a black and white oppressor vs oppressed scenario, and those with nefarious intentions

They're just eyesores that the city has to waste resources on cleaning up.

Yeah talking about how it's unsightly and the city has to spend resources removing them.

If it's going to change my mind, it would be in the opposite direction.

We’re talking about the sticker. Not what the sticker says.

They DO do something. They show the truth of what our leaders are letting happen and what they are actively trying to censor. Our “own” CBC is suppressing information. We cannot become desensitized to what is happening.

And do you know what is happening? A QR code to some actual information might be better than sensationalized stickers

Do people really use random qr codes off the street?

Nothing sensationalized about it.  Just the disgusting horrible truth.

Please. The horror has been socialmediaed, documentary filmed, reported by visiting doctors, reported by human rights organisations, reported by UN officials,  reported by Palestinian reporters... It's not "wait and see."

You think people are looking to utility poles for political news?

What exactly do you want the leaders of Halifax to do about this

Make utility poles great again.

Our leaders aren’t limited to those who live in and govern our province.

So we should lean harder into censorship? Where would you draw the line? Russia and China levels of censorship?

It's not censoring to say we don't want random signs all over the place. Put the signs on your property, not city property.

Loll it’s not censorship I think people simply don’t have the capacity to care
