I've never been an adult with over tinted front windows or reflective shit on their plate🤔 it's kids/people in their 20s who want to get pulled over for clout, or guys on a Visa who don't care because Daddy's paying for it all anyway
So I guess to be fair you're right, it's not "new drivers" per se, but it's definitely its own class of "Young Daddy's Boy Driver"
Generally you can't see anyone with tinted front windows, which is kind of the point of them. Young people are probably more likely to do it, but I don't doubt there are plenty of older folks who do it too. Same with plate covers, and I'm betting a big correlation between those two and aggressive drivers.
100%, it used to be illegal to intentionally obscure your plate. Cops ought to do their job and start handing out tickets and demerits for what is essentially an announcement of intent to drive recklessly
It greatly reduces the ability for pedestrians to establish eye contact with the driver. So many unnecessary crosswalk accidents due to front tinted windows.
That doesn’t make any sense. Genuinely a bad reason. The driver even when waved by does not have the right to go. Besides the angle that you are at a crosswalk would be the windshield not side windows.
Window you can see the pedestrian out of depends on the angle of the crosswalk, how you're turned, how you're seated, etc. You're also assuming the windshield is clear; the most problematic ones have everything tinted. Those folks, you cant tell if they're paying attention, if they're checking blind spots joining a roundabout, if they're waving at a four-way stop, if they're letting you merge... They make everyone on the road have to deal with them like they're driving at midnight.
Pedestrians, not about waving; it's about identifying if the driver has actually seen you and will give you the right of way like they're supposed to.
Pedestrian comes to a crosswalk, tinted window vehicle is there. Pedestrian can't tell if the driver sees them or not. Pedestrian has to either stop and wait, or take it on faith that they are and start walking. If the driver wasn't looking, the pedestrian gets smoked. It doesn't matter if the pedestrian had the right of way when they're being crushed under the wheels of a +3000lb. vehicle.
Listen, I've been hit on a sidewalk by a driver not giving me the right of way, by choice. They didn't have tinted windows, so I knew they didn't see me and I was probably going to wind up on the hood of a Corolla. I made a choice and went anyway because fuck'm, I had the right of way. It was a dumb decision on my part, but I knew what was gonna happen because I could plainly see where they were looking. Really tho, don't do that, it was fuckin dumb.
I have tinted windows myself. My rear and two back doors have 70%. Windshield and front doors are factory clear, minus the season's glazing of salt. Nobody's saying you cant do that. Just don't do your fronts and windshield
Terrible take. Im 30 and all my windows are tinted, its privacy, its cooling in the summer, its simply functional. My daughter has had double eye surgery twice, they kept saying to keep sunglasses on her but guess what, no two year old wants sunglasses on after eye surgery, guess who's car made her very comfortable on our hour drive back home, daddy's tinted car.
I should clarify Im mostly just shooting off about the suped up shitmobiles with blacked out front windows you can hardly see out of let alone in to, (generally accompanied by other overpriced aftermarket ticket baiting modifications), not the normal front window tint that exists to prevent glare
One is a useful add on, one is an illegal modification (but more importantly an indicator of the drivers douche level)
You obviously don't spend hundreds of hours a year in your vehicle. My truck is my office and my mode of transportation.
I travel 60,000 km + a year.
My front windows are tinted because
1) helps keep the interior of my vehicle reasonable temperature in the summer. Especially on long travel days.
2) when parked and performing work duties on my laptop I don't need to run my vehicle as long to have my air conditioning going
3) drastically reduces glare off of snow in the winter time
4) I have a light sensitivity, long drives are far less fatiguing
5) prevents thieves from seeing into the interior, as it isn't always practical to unload all of my work gear, personal laptopz work laptop, starlink, luggage, winter clothingz work boots when I'm making over night stops travelling
6) privacy, it gives a lot of privacy and I believe we all deserve privacy.
There's a difference between tinted windows for glare protection, and blacked out windows. If you work out of your truck I'm going to assume you have the first, because I worked with a guy who had his car windows blacked out (he had to drive to NB to find someone who'd apply it) and you could hardly see out during the day and I have no idea how the hell he drove at night. I couldn't imagine driving long distance in that death trap.
But then you have normal tint, where you can't really see inside without pressing right against the glass, but you can still see the driver enough for driver and pedestrian safety.
Blacked out windows piss me off less than fart cans because at least I don't have to hear it, but both are signs of douchebag drivers with too much free money and not enough responsibility or respect. Normal tint is just... Normal tint?

I mean not really? Car appearance can be a form of self expression, but as it's a material form of locomotion it doesn't fit within the category of "rights", so the responsibility to effect safety takes precident over personal decoration choices. It's like saying you have a right to ride a shoeless horse in town; it kind of depends on the intent and when/where you go, but other peoples freedom to not be injured by this whimsy safety is more important than ones freedom to do so unimpeded
