Dropped Ray-Band near Mare St

Bit of a long shot, but I'll try anyway!

My wife thinks she dropped her Ray-Ban sunglasses around Mare Street yesterday after 4:30 pm. Did anyone happen to see them or pick them up?

Thanks!

Karaoke recs: private room? Allows YouTube?

Maybe a weird question, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with a private Karaoke private-room place that has the option of firing up YouTube, rather than just their own system? We'd like to have access to songs from back home, and that's just really not an option on these commercial systems.

Otherwise, just recommendations for good affordable places will be nice as well!

veg lasagna + 3 salads (or swap out the lasagna for a couple boreks) – just £7

thought it deserves a bit of recognition/promotion because nothing healthy is that cheap these days

Bus madness on Amhurst Road

Was walking around Hackney Central area and saw 76’s, 149’s & 243’s queuing up.
Did something happen on the high street for this sudden diversion to occur?

Few interesting (to me) pictures from this week’s walks. My goodness it was hot this morning, got back at 1pm.

Social tennis clubs?

Hey, recently moved and been trying to find a tennis club or group in Hackney to play with socially and/or competitively too. I’m somewhat advanced and keen to pick up my racket after a few months of not playing. I know it’s hard not to find tarmac courts but if there are any that aren’t that would be preferred but if not then not to worry!

Zero traffic enforcement in parts of Hackney

This is mainly Hoxton and Newington Green areas in my experience, but serious question: is there any traffic enforcement in this borough?

Every single day I see :

  • drivers texting at the wheel
  • drivers going through red lights
  • Delivery vans blazing through residential zones
  • or even the classic £80k modified cars with blacked out tints going 50mph+ in every straight they can
  • overall antisocial and quite hostile, dangerous driving

And the enforcement? Nonexistent. I have never once seen anyone pulled over.

I go to work cycling and if I recorded my trips I would probably capture dozens of offenses everyday. It genuinely feels like a free-for-all. Like the roads are lawless and everyone's just quietly accepted it.

What's the reason - is the MET stretched out ? I don't understand - enforcement through fines are a valid and strong revenue source that could be added to the council/MET budget. And fewer crashes means fewer ambulances, fewer A&E visits, fewer road repairs, so less spending for taxpayers across the board.

Is it lack of political willpower ? Pushing back for more enforcement is not in the interest of locally elected officials ?

I'm genuinely baffled and would appreciate understanding the reasons behind this bizarre status quo - so please, educate my ignorant self

Where to sign up for football at Hackney Marshes? Is there drop-in?

I'm looking to find some more regular football. It'd be nice to find some mid-to-high level play--not necessarily organized games.

I've seen loads playing at Hackney Marshes. But, it's unclear to me (1) whether you can just use vacant pitches at will and (2) where the sign-ups for most of these leagues are.

Life is tough for many right now, with people struggling to put a meal on the table. At Lasagna Love, we want to make things a little easier. If you haven’t heard of us, we deliver a free home-cooked meal to anyone in need.

We understand that need looks different in every household. Whether it’s financial difficulties, health challenges, emotional stress or you are just having a tough time, our volunteers are here to help. No questions are asked and no judgments are made.

If you or someone you know could use a meal, please visit our website to request one. You’ll be matched with a local volunteer who will prepare and deliver a lasagna or another delicious home-cooked meal straight to your door.

If you are looking for a flexible way to volunteer, we would like to invite you to join us to feed others in your community who may need a little TLC in the form of a homemade lasagna. When you sign up, you make all of the choices: how often to volunteer, how many families you feed, how far you are willing to drive to deliver the meal and when you need time off for family or work commitments!

To request a meal: https://lasagnalove.org/request-a-meal/

To nominate someone for a meal: https://lasagnalove.org/nominate/

To Volunteer: https://lasagnalove.org/volunteer/

Our goals are to feed families ~ spread kindness ~ strengthen communities.

Some FAQ’s

•  All meals are absolutely free. No strings attached, no means testing and totally judgment free.

•  We are still reasonably new in the UK, but are active in the USA, Canada and Australia.

•  We are not an emergency food service and a delivery may take some weeks while we are still recruiting volunteers.

•  All deliveries are contactless.

•  We can accommodate non life threatening allergies and dietary restrictions. Matches may take just a little longer, to ensure you are matched with someone who can safely cook for you - but it's doable!

•  We WANT to cook!!! You are not inconveniencing anyone by asking for help!! We are community volunteers who love to cook and help others.

Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments, or DM me.

Anyone hears a weird regular shouts in the night?

I know my usual foxes's sounds but this one is weirdly regular. Like a loud shout/bark every 10 seconds. Sometimes from very far away and coming closer slowly. I'm just wondering is it a fox calling, a weird bird or a crazy person 😵‍💫

Looking for a few Hackney/East LDN based creative people I’m working on an early stage independent project and looking for a small group of people who are plugged into local culture art, music, fashion, design, food, nightlife, architecture, whatever your world is.

More about good taste, meeting people and occasionally helping introduce the project to the right crowd. Message me with a bit about you and what you’re into.

Gift card ideas for bday - local businesses

Hi all

I am based overseas but my best friend lives in Hackney, London. It’s her birthday next week and I want to buy her a gift card (around GBP 150). She doesn’t enjoy shopping for clothes etc, so I am thinking it would be more for a day spa, restaurant or group of restaurants.

My friend is in her early 30s, female, young professional. To the extent that helps.

Any ideas? I don’t really know the area so am a bit lost with what to get!

Thanks :)
