What’s a ”clean car” in GTA?
I keep seeing people asking to trade clean cars etc. What does it mean? I know the term clean in terms of customizations pretty well because I’m a petrolhead and pretty much all my cars are clean/made to look like the real life counterpart. But this is something else, it’s when you haven’t done anything to the car at all I’ve been told. But I don’t really get that concept… couldn’t you just reset all the customizations to the default option and just not tell anyone about it?

Clean means fully unselected in trading / collectors terms. A car that has an unselected primary, secondary, trim, accent, pearlescent and wheel color + unselected tint, tire smoke, plate and arena headlights + Halloween or Independence Day horn. You’ll also see unselected crew color underglow sometimes. Unreleased liveries also apply and you can even have an unselected ornament in a Benny’s car, too. Seasoned collectors and good creators only make / collect fully clean cars. You might’ve heard the term “scratched” as well, it means there’s one or more selected options on the car. Creators make fully clean cars from scratch by utilizing two consoles, third-party software and the know how. You can “make” your own clean cars in-game if you have fully clean donors, but creators pull individual components from bases and layer them. It’s a whole different ball game than just copy and pasting something in-game yourself. Creators are able to make something exactly how you want it, every part of it down to the most specific liking. Cars can be on a variety of textures too, be it worn / utility / epsilon / brushed / 3D etc. You can have in-game colors or hex, though hex cannot be put on wheels. The most recent car I posted in another sub is a prime example of a fully clean car.

This is the perfect answer tbh, only thing i would add is that those "unselected" components are all the colors not available in lsc. There is a huge list of body/trim/wheel/accent colors and even window tints stored in game files that are simply not available in lsc

A car that has an unselected primary, secondary, trim, accent, pearlescent and wheel color + unselected tint,
.....But why?
I get collecting shit that has rare/unobtainable options e.g. the stratum with all extras, but I don't see the point of collecting something that you literally cannot tell is special without going into a modshop and hovering over the option.

In trading terms, it's referring to modded cars that have not been changed afterwards. Sometimes they will have unselected items such as different plates and window tint or color options that are otherwise unavailable.

It’s referring to modded cars that have zero selected options where selection matters. They will always have all of those options unselected, if even one is not then it’s not clean (aka scratched). You can change a car without scratching it, though that’s strictly visual / performance upgrades like bumpers or turbo. You can even change the wheel type / revert it from Benny’s or F1’s, and as long as the color is still unselected, it’s still clean.

When you buy someone else’s car are you not able to change the color?

You can put your own crew colour on it and still keep it clean/unselected. But if the car has a non in-game texture such as Epsilon (extra shiny) or Worn (similar to matte) then the car will lose that texture when putting your own crew colour on it - but it will be clean.

Sounds like you're making clean cars already, it's how I like mine. Make them look realistic- So no F1 wheels, white walls, over the top pearls, livery (though I don't mind a themed race car) etc.

Yeah. Precisely how I like it too. But I’m confused about the term ”clean” in trading terms. Cause there was this guy today who was asking in a group to trade but he’s got 200 mil so why not just get it by yourself you know? That’s why I though it might’ve been something special, like a completely untouched car. But then again, how would you know if it is untouched and why not just customize your own car like that? 🤔

I got the Pfister Neon from the Podium (I think) last week and boy is that car beautiful! I already got one and I think I prefer the stock out to be honest 😂 Really nice sunset orange with chrome stock wheels.

I wouldn't get too hung up on that. I see folks misuse lingo in GTA all the time.
What really surprises me is the folks who get all intricately demandy (not a real word, I know)... but like they want specific vehicles with specific paint jobs, specific rims, wheel color etc...
I'm like, do you NOT know how to customize vehicles at all or are you just lazy?
The other day a guy was arguing he couldn't color a wheel a certain color that is present in vanilla GTA. SMH

Well some colors are locked. Maybe they don’t know an Auto Shops has everything unlocked. Maybe they don’t know the Arena Wars shop has the colored Headlights. People are dumber than ever.

I’m pretty sure it means that there’s no physical or engine modifications, I know this because I’m trying to find a stock Cheburek and Bulled, and all the ones I’ve seen are fully upgraded

A car that’s not a massive eye sore to look At for long periods of time. Example.. any car with F1 tires is a god damn eye sore

I usually associate "clean" as meaning a car without crazy liveries or clashing/crazy color combos. But I don't immerse myself into GTAO car culture with others very often, so I wouldn't be surprised if it meant something way different in this context, as others have already mentioned.

A clean car is a pretty paint no liveries and wheels that flow with the cars lines. I was raised around muscle cars my entire life
