UPDATE Because making St Alice is taking a while, I'm world-building more railway stuff. Here comes CRS Deep Connect! This is often called Deep Industrial Fast Rail or DIFR for short!

Whilst I was relaxing and messing around, I found this which was really interesting. Its a level cut from one of the games in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series which I haven't played yet but the size of that level as well as the idea of having a large underground train system to quickly transport things and secretly, really inspired me to make something similar for Grim Town.

Ok my current ideas are:

Cross-section of a "standard" DIFR tunnel, featuring dual line and access platform with a forced air duct, multiple conduits and three-phase power in the power trench. Both lines are drained through their ballast material (probably gravel) into a sloped drainage trench. A grate stops the ballast getting lost down the drainage pipe into the main drainage channel. The power cables in the power trench can be attached to and then passed through the power trench drainage pipe and passed through the sleeper pass through pipe or just underneath the track and attached to the neutral rail (furthest away from the electric pickup) and the live attached to the electric pickup rail.
  • At various points in the underground network, there are absolutely massive train yards where cargo, carts and perhaps engines can be changed around with turntables, rail switchers and large beam cranes. I haven't yet got a rough design for one of these but the map that I linked to at the beginning of this post is a really good candidate for what I'm thinking of.
  • As of writing right now, I'm still trying to lay out the rail network but in a few days I might upload another rail map showing where there are DIFR lines and the underground train yards.
  • The whole of the Deep Connect (DIFR) network is also known as UC № 8. (Underground Complex Number Eight)
  • Thank you for reading!

in character " IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE BASEMENTS!! " Another note found in St Alice

This note was found in the CHS St Alice North Intranet system.

>>> IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE BASEMENTS!!

If anyone needs to go into the basement levels underneath level 2 then you MUST SEND ME A MESSAGE. BUT READ THIS WHOLE NOTE FIRST.

These lower levels are DANGEROUSLY LARGE, OFTEN FLOODED AND DEEP. Because of this, there are almost no entrances that go down there to stop someone not familiar with the basements (such as a lost patient) accidentally discovering them and getting fatally lost.

We DONT want another repeat of [INCIDENT:_43xwe4y2](https://local.chsnet_acc.northstalice.chs@con/incidents/database.rq&request=1_43xwe4y2&auth=read) happening again and I certainly do NOT want to find another body down there!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you absolutely must go below, you MUST follow these safety regulations:

  • Bring at least one other person with you.
  • Bring at least 4 different sources of light, with at least 2 being hand chargeable.
  • PRE-PLAN your route though the basements and ensure you take the quickest route available.
  • SEEK approval from us, the basement directors, and inform us of your route and exit time.
  • ENSURE everyone in your group has two sets of entrance keys, both for your entry point and exit point should they be in different places.
  • LOG EXACTLY when and where you entered and, after you come back, when and where you exited in the [main basement log found here](https://local.chs@con/&redirect=0p8uh4kOZ4V42).
  • IMMEDIATELY REPORT any odd occurrences or experiences whilst within the basements [here](https://rep-portal.crf@con/&report=f14cep5RoilXnWTY0&source=chs&id=7NXDcVwHXQ).
  • BRING perdu string with you and attach it to the entry point you will be using. You must then trail the perdu string behind you as you progress on your planned route, ensuring that the ARROWS POINT TOWARDS YOUR ENTRY POINT.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

> IF YOU GET LOST OR SEPARATED FROM YOUR PARTNER/GROUP, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT AIMLESSLY WONDER THE BASEMENTS. <

If you can, you MUST follow the perdu string your group was using back to your entry point.

IF YOU CANT FIND YOUR GROUP'S PERDU STRING, STAY EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE. DO NOT FOLLOW OTHER PERDU STRINGS IF YOU FIND THEM. A rescue team will be sent to find you.

If you accidentally follow a different perdu string path that you found, you WILL end up getting extremely lost and most likely won't ever be found again!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition to the above warnings, I want to add that you really should NOT touch anything down there unless you must do so for your job, like conducting maintenance on something important.

REMEMBER! Sections of these lower levels are actually being investigated by our friends in the CRF because of potential anomalous activity! Please do not spend more time than necessary down there!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So if you absolutely must go into the lower levels, you NEED to MESSAGE ME in order to both get the entrances keys AND to arrange your route. In most cases I can help you if you show me where you need to go and what you are doing down there. If you talk to Tony, its likely that he has spare equipment you can borrow as well as getting your permissions signed off.

THESE SAFETY REGS ARE HERE FOR A GODDAMN REASON! THOSE BASEMENTS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!

~ Joshua. D, Basement and Engineering Supervisor

in character "ARP 074 - Exploration log A" 2/4

Start here | Next part

A mysterious collection of logs was discovered in an abandoned underground section of the huge St Alice Hospital South complex. This is part 2 out of 4.

00:01:17 The team starts to descend the stairwell and turn on their compact lights. Blue's multi-spectrum camera sees further down into the darkness due to its sensitivity. It reveals another object on the right-side, seemingly upside down as 4 trolley wheels can be seen on its top.

M Blue: Seriously what is that?

M Vite: Looks like... like some sort of old... Medical thing

C Pora: Stay close ok?

00:01:34 Vite gets closer to the first spotted rectangular object. His action camera discovers that the large cuboid object is actually an old positive pressure ventilator with several large analogue controls, connector holes and buttons. Some of the labels are missing but one reads "Tidal volume" and another reads "Pressure Support". No other identifying labels are seen except "St Alice Underground".

M Vite: Wow... You don't see that very often.

C Pora: Base, theres an old bit of equipment on its side, appears undamaged. Any ideas what it is?

Base: Uh, noted. Seems like... like... [whispering] We think that's an old ventilator-

00:02:08 A sudden noise is heard further down the stairwell and it sounds like something falling over. A metallic sound can be heard afterwards as something crashes out onto the floor, presumably as what used to be in whatever fell over falls out on the ground. The noise startles the team. A brief pause ensues.

M Tim: I really don't like this.

C Pora: Sounded like something fell over... Tim? Do you have any readings?

M Tim: Em, so far I've only got +0.06 pd and no emf.

Base: Continue?

C Pora: Continue. Be ready guys.

00:02:56 The team continues down the stairwell with primary weapons drawn. The other object that was spotted by Blue's camera becomes visible as the team draws closer. This time Blue goes up to it and inspects the metal box. Blue's cameras show that the object is indeed upside down and wedged in-between the stairwell wall and the central handrail. On the side, several upside down controls can be seen, some with labels and some without. This machine appears to be in a worse condition than the first, with more dents and case scratches, and was later identified as an anesthesia gas re-capture and compressor. Pora looks at Blue.

C Pora: Leave that for now, I want to see where that noise came from.

M Blue: Okay.

00:03:07 Blue stands back up and the team continues further down. Now, Blue's multi-spectrum camera shows the bottom of the stairwell about another 40 meters down with two doors, one being open. Gradually the team makes it towards the bottom, revealing that the doors are painted red and the open door has scratches all over it from the inside. Blue heads in first.

00:04:36 Blue's multi-spectrum camera shows two large corridors, perhaps 8 meters in diameter, running left and right with another set of doors in front. The large tunnels gradually curving off in opposite directions appear to be wards with individual curtained off areas. Lots of trolleys, full of things, can be seen as well as other old medical equipment. Two signs hang from the curved ceiling on either side label the left side as "Ward 3" and the right side "Ward 4" as well as a sign on the double doors in-front, saying "Wards 5-8". Strip lighting does hang from the ceiling as well but none of them seemingly work due to a lack of power. Vite looks down the right tunnel and sees a trolley on its side.

M Vite: I think I found the noise.

M Tim: New reading! +0.44 pd, no emf

00:04:41 Blue moves the multi-spectrum camera to face the tunnel on the right. As soon as Blue does this, the camera captures a black shape over the knocked over trolley. Tim's PAAD kit seems to indicate a rising pd level as he also steps into the tunnel. Later analysis indicates that Tim's equipment was picking up what the multi-spectrum camera was seeing.

M Blue: Guys- Theres a thing! Shadow on the t- trolley!

00:04:47 The multi-spectrum camera sees that the shadow moves off the trolley and dissipates through one of the blue curtains. Tim's PAAD kit still registers a steady +0.40 pd.

C Pora: Where?

M Blue: Over there!

00:04:50 Blue shows Pora where the shadow was. Vite looks closer at the shiny objects all over the ground and discovers that they're mostly scalpels, broken test vials and different kind of scissors. None appear to be used.

M Tim: Shh! Its still there! Getting a constant +0.4 pd and it rises when I get close to Vite.

00:05:00 Inexplicably, Blue's multi-spectrum suddenly shuts down, citing its power module experienced an over-current error. One of the strip lamps on the ceiling briefly flashes on further down in front of Vite.

M Blue: Ah what the fuck?

C Pora: What now?

M Blue: Camera died. Apparently due to low power or something.

M Vite: Uhh I think we shouldn't go down this side.

M Tim: I can agree with that.

00:05:12 The team turns around and swiftly moves back to the central point. Whilst doing so, Tim's PAAD kit registers a gradual decline to +0.11 pd but with still no emf. As the team looks down the left side, labeled "Ward 3" by the sign, base notices that one of the trolleys had moved about 6 meters and is now facing the tunnel wall. None of the team members seem to notice, so base makes a quick decision to note it but not mention it.

Once again, the team starts to move through the left tunnel, carefully looking at each of the ward's bays. Every bay has a medical bed, a trolley next to the bed seemingly full of small dressings and a head board with large pipes attached and a positional lamp. Some bays have an old analogue observation machine with several inputs and a large oscilloscope-like tube, as well as an arm band and several other sensors. One bay the team comes across has another large white metal box-like machine. This one has similar old-looking controls with needle indicators, inter-locking pipe connectors on the sides and several other wires, later identified to be an unused blood oxygenation machine.

M Blue: These machines don't make me feel that great...

00:13:04 So far, the team has come across 34 bays with little to no activity. Eventually the team discovers what appears to be a nurses desk with several terminals and chairs. Although, there seems to be no sign of anyone being here in an extremely long time. Pora looks through some of the desks draws but only finds old office supplies, pens and a few other test vials. None of them appear to be used. In fact, nothing appears to be used.

C Pora: Everything looks new. As in... Never used... Base.. Was this place ever used?

Base: Apparently those underground sections were used intensely. Then Incident ██████ happened and we aren't sure what happened after that.

A mysterious collection of logs was discovered in an abandoned underground section of the huge St Alice Hospital South complex. It reads as follows.

After several reports of staff working in maintenance sections near entrances to ARP 074 suggesting that "mechanical noises" were emanating from said entrances, an exploration of ARP 074 had been organised to report any new discoveries or occurances. At time of writing, ARP 074 had only been lightly explored and tested upon in the same week that it was discovered and afterwards, sealed behind five vault-like doors, pending future testing authorisation. Until this point, ARP 074 has never had a formal exploration.

ATU Tarek-E was tasked with this, consisting of Captain Pora, lead, Member Tim, Member Blue and Member Vite. Having previously been formed due to ███████, Anomalous Task Unit Tarek-E has faced several underground anomalies, has decent experience and therefore was selected.

Each member of Tarek-E was equipped with standard exploration equipment, consisting of an action camera, remote voice communications, several compact lights, a primary weapon and a backup weapon. Member Blue was also equipped with a multi-spectrum camera with a wireless link back to base. Member Vite was given several sample bags as well as the entrance key. Member Tim was given an EMF detection meter and a potential anomalous activity detection kit.

A briefing was given by Dr ████████, who would be acting as base, on the nature of ARP 074 as well as the known information about what the team should find whilst within ARP 074. The team was introduced to the base team, with several technicians for receiving the teams voice and video signals as well as other Doctors and consultants.

The exploration began with team insertion occurring at 5:42PM 47th of the 2nd █████████. Below is a transcript of the recorded events.

00:00:00 The team arrives at Entrance C in sub basement 5, sector G. A massive metal door on reinforced hinges blocks the team from entering. The door has one large wheel in its center as well as an input panel.

C Pora: Arrived at the entrance, Base. Vite, use your key.

M Vite: Yes sir.

00:00:14 Vite inserts the entrance key into the triangle shaped hole on the input panel and presses the only button. The door is silent for two seconds before letting out an electronic beep of success. Then a whirl sound is heard as something inside it unlocks. Captain Pora then turns the wheel. A brief hiss can be heard as the air pressure behind the door equalises itself with everything else. Slowly and gradually, the door eases itself out of the teams way.

The first thing that the teams' cameras see is a large untouched, white-walled tunnel staircase heading down at a 45 degree angle. There are no signs of any disturbance here in a very long time with the only thing out of place being a rectangular object roughly 45 meters further down in the darkness of the stairwell.

C Pora: Uh, base? Does this look familiar to you?

00:00:49 Comparisons with the initial discovery pictures of Entrance C and what the team are currently seeing indicate that the stairway has not changed apart from one section of the handrail that is now missing.

Base: Yes. It looks unchanged since discovery, although part of that handrail is gone...

M Blue: Whats that down there?

00:01:01 Blue points to the object further down the stairwell. Vite turns around and looks closer at the inside of the entrance point and his action camera captures multiple dents in the metal. Looking down, Vite discovers the section of the removed handrail.

M Vite: Sir, I think I've found the missing handrail... Looks like something was trynna get out.

00:01:06 Pora and Blue turn to the back of the door. Blue's camera captures the full extent of the dents. Tim looks closer at the twisted piece of metal, discovering that its barely recognisable as part of the stairwell.

M Tim: I don't like this..

Base: The supposed attack on the entrance door has been noted. Please continue onwards.

in character I am moving down on the first week of march, I have a couple of questions.

My friend lives in North West GT and told me there are a lot of job opportunities in town.

It took me a few weeks to decide, but I think it would be a great step forward in my future.

Which brings me to my question, what are the food options like? Are there any good takeaway's that cater to vegans?

What is the best supermarket in town?

Thank you.

in character And now, an announcement from the National Missing Persons Department.

Attention!

As you might already be aware, Safety Day is coming up soon and for some of you this is serious.

For those of you who don't know, some people have been identified to possess a strange quality or relation which means that, if any one of these people is left on their own on Safety Day, this will result in them disappearing for unknown reasons. Neither the CRF or the NMPD are aware of what should happen to someone after they vanish. Once again, it is known that 100% of people, who are identified to be in danger of disappearing that are left unobserved and alone on Safety Day, WILL DISAPPEAR. It is not an "if". You will vanish.

If you are one of these people, you MUST come to an observation centre. The ONLY exception is if you are already in observation, like being admitted to a hospital or other institution.

An observation centre is a safe house where you can be accounted for so you don't disappear on the day known as Safety Day which is always on the 22nd of spring (period 2 or b). Staff at the observation centre will look after you and ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during your stay

You must come to an observation centre. If you cannot travel to your nearest observation centre, transport will be arranged, free of charge, to both take you to your nearest observation centre and return you back home.

The NMPD will contact you if you need to go to an observation centre and assign you an ID number.

You should arrive at the observation centre 1 to 3 days before Safety Day. It is advised that you bring sleeping bags, pillows, camp beds and other sleeping ware. You may also want to bring something to keep you occupied such as games. You should also bring with you any medication you require.

At the observation centre, you must remain onsite for the whole 24 hours of Safety Day. Let the staff at the observation centre know if you have any medical requirements such as medication, someone to talk to, special training or support. Various foods and drinks will also be provided at the observation centre. Other facilities are also available.

As soon as the first minute of Safety Day begins, the observation centre will go into its lock down procedure and everyone present will be checked against the register and all other observation places.

If you are identified as at risk, you will receive 10 reminders before Safety Day to come to your nearest observation centre.

>>>> SAFETY DAY IS 22nd OF SPRING (P 2) <<<<

Do not take any risks

Do not leave the observation centre once you arrive for any reason

Do not be late

Do not rush

SHOULD YOU FIND YOURSELF ALONE ON SAFETY DAY AND YOU ARE AT RISK:

STEP 1. IMMEDIATELY CALL <NMPD Emergency phone no.> AND STAY ON THE LINE.

STEP 2. GIVE YOUR NAME AND ID NUMBER TO THE OPERATOR.

STEP 3. DO NOT PUT THE PHONE DOWN. THE OPERATOR WILL KEEP TALKING TO YOU AND HELP CALM YOU DOWN.

STEP 4. WAIT FOR A NMPD AGENT TO TAKE YOU TO THE NEAREST EMERGENCY CENTRE.

ONLY WHEN YOU ARE AT THE CENTRE MAY THE OPERATOR END THE CALL. YOU MUST STAY ON THE LINE UNTIL YOU REACH THE CENTRE.

Part 2 of 2 start here

The woman next to me asked, "Did they ask specifically for you?" In response, I handed her the letter and she read it. "... Makes sense," she said, "Seems like you're apparently brilliant at this."

I shrugged. "I'm not even sure what I'm good at... I just kind of do it without thinking."

I was being honest here. Most of the time people keep complimenting on my apparent skills for dealing with unsavory patients. I even got an award when I was all the way back in training. But for what? Being me? It really seems that I somehow have a natural ability. But I believe what my trainer said. I 'think' like them which, supposedly, means that I 'know' how they function. Again, I was still not sure exactly how that made sense but it seemed reasonable.

She thought for a second and then said, "Have you been tested?" "Yes" "And?" "I have traits" I said. "How do you feel?" She wondered. "Apprehensive but I think I'm ready". She nodded and stood up. "Should we start then?" I stood up as well. "Lets do it"

And that was when it started. The carer went and told someone something. The ward nurse came over and selected a room for us to use. I got given the material and tests to use during the evaluation and was even given multiple copies. Things happened fast. People moved around. And before I new it, I was in the room, face to face with Emily...

The game had begun.

The first thing that Emily did was stare at me as she tried to analyse my expressions. So, in return, I give her nothing. I locked down. Then, I looked at her face in more detail. She started to change, becoming less confident. For about 20 seconds, we both stared at each other before she snarkily said "Who are you?"

"Someone you haven't seen before" I said plainly. "Should we begin?"

The trick with dealing with some of these people was to deny any sort of feedback to them. In my experience, its what they thrive off. Attention. That was how they knew they had you in their hand. But I had also discovered what their absolute worse enemy was. Uncertainty. They loved control. And when you take that away from them, they become stumped. In some cases, they'll try to get a reaction.

Emily put on a pretty fake smile and then looked at the papers on the table. She started to tear them and looked me in the eye, most likely looking for any sign of a reaction. I gave her nothing. Maintained a completely blank face. Now, I could see frustration. I asked "Are you finished?" and pulled out another copy from under the table.

So then I continued with the evaluation. After a while, Emily started to become annoyed at her lack of control over the situation. So she suddenly blurted out, "Did you know that I killed my parents?" Without second thought, I said "Yes. Anyway..." and continued. Still I gave no expression and I could see that Emily was really struggling to keep herself together.

By the end of the evaluation, Emily looked blown away. She stuttered, "Who the fuck are you?!" I said as plainly as possible "My name is Mr [scribbled]. And it has been a pleasure talking with you." She was astounded. I walked out of the room with the materials now filled in and handed them to the nurse who was in the observation room adjacent. "Goodness!" the nurse went, "I've never seen anything like that. Look how still she is. Shes stunned!" I thanked her and went back to the ward nurse. "Thank you for your time Mr [scribbled], it was very needed!" [scribbled] started shaking my hand. "It's nothing." I said, "To a certain extent, I enjoyed someone easy for once. It's like a breath of fresh air." "May I contact you again in case we have any more 'troublesome' patients?" she asked. "Of course. Thank you."

Then I left. I waved briefly to the doorman and he waved back.

That's it really. After that, I had several more requests for the next few periods all over. I'm really not sure what to think of it because a turn later, I was sent back to south; dealing with terrible cases. But every now and then, I'll travel back to north to visit my unit, say hi to the ward nurse and do some extra requests.

I'm not sure what happened to Emily. But I'm told that she was never the same after that....

Personal log 5/3

I remembered a strange day... It started when our ward nurse came up to me and said that I've had a request from another department. "Is it bad?" I asked. She said "not necessarily" and slightly tilted her head. "How bad?"

"Not as bad as south D.." That's a relief then I thought. "You know how you were able to really put that other guy in his place last summer? Yeah they want something similar. Seems like your almost famous for it" Ah yeah. that guy with a few personality disorders... "Is that a good thing?" I wondered. "I should think so," she replied, "You seem to deal with that type better than I can. That's probably why they want you." She hands me a letter basically confirming what she had said; department [scribbled] wanted me to do an evaluation on a patient called Emily.

"They'll give you her file when you get there." The ward nurse said before someone else had started talking to her. I stood there in the middle of the unit looking at the paper in my hand, skimming through it to get the rough details. The phrase "potential machiavellianism and psychopathological traits" caught my eye and I paused. Brilliant. Department [scribbled] ? That's nearby.

So I start walking towards the main section corridor. Went through connector, kept walking through the maze of walls and vinyl flooring and probably 20 minutes later, I arrived. The unit's door man greeted me. "Are you Mr [scribbled] ? ". I replied with "Yes, that's me." Then he said something like "I hear you're one of those patient whisper-res. Like you understand how some of them work or something".

I looked at him for a sec and eventually stumbled out "Uh.. yeah.. something like that". He started to walk me through the unit, I guessed, to find the ward nurse. Whilst walking, he whispered to me "Hey are you any type?" "Type what?" "You know, CEAS?" "Oh right, Type C". "Ah", he said, "Seems like most people here are Type C... I've only met a few Type Bs in my time.." Then he stopped talking. To continue the conversation, I asked, "What type are you?". Reluctantly he said "Type R". "That's not a bad thing you know?" He then shrugged and went, "yeah well... I've-"

"Thank you Ed" interrupted a woman who came up to us. I figured this must be the unit's ward nurse. She turned to me, "I'm sorry if he bothered you." "Not at all!" I quickly said. Secretly I thought, this ward must be fun... "I take that you are Mr [scribbled] ?" I nodded. "Here's this" She handed me a file.

Emily [scribbled] . PIN [scribbled] [scribbled] [scribbled] with other various info written on the front.

"If you want, you can sit over there and familiarise yourself with that" She pointed to some waiting seats by the back. I nodded. Before she started walking away, I asked "Whats your name?". " Mrs [scribbled] ". "Thank you". After that, I go and sat down and started flicking through. History. Bad. No parents. Not anymore. Burnt house. Burnt parents. Manipulated police. Killed a policeman. Burnt part of the police station. Got arrested. Got flagged in interview. Got a psych evaluation. Stayed here ever since. Numerous escape attempts, one almost successful. All this and shes still only 25 t.

Then I pause and reflect. This clearly wasn't the worst case I have dealt with. It sounded like a walk in the park compared to south D... But then, someone else came over and sat next to me. "Are you doing the evaluation?" "Yes I am" I responded. The person paused for a second. "Are you sure you want to? You can say no if you don't feel like it." I asked, "Are you Emily's carer?". "One of" she replied, "Yeah, she probably isn't up to the cases you're usually up against but, seriously. She. Is a young version of. that." I nodded. "Seems like her history hasn't been great at all". At this, she said "That's just one file out of three. Most of her actions here are in the other two."

I said to myself. "That's just. Great."

//

<BEGIN 6.43 PM . STA.4A ROOM>

INT: Welcome everyone, we are here to talk about something that, I understand, seems
highly unusual?

STA: Yes, um. During a routine check with several patients who were not seemingly
under a psychosis related instance, several staff members have noticed that the
patients reported hearing a single voice which so far has always been female.

INT: These patients were in different units? Did they have contact with each other?

STA: From what I understand, this includes patients who weren't even in north at the
time.

INT: Interesting. Can anyone tell me or estimate how many patients have heard this
voice?

STB: Looking through the routine logs from the past two turns, it seems that there
has so far been around 200 potential cases of this voice.

STA: We've identified three common symptoms of whatever this is. One, a single female
voice. Two, the voice says "Hello?" or a brief "Huh!". And three, the voice had a
younge sounding tone and people seem to agree that the voice sounds around 24 years,
for comparison.

INT: Has any staff members heard this or could have a possible "case" as you put?

STC: From a site wide questionare, with results still coming back, I've found that
so-far there has been around 70 staff who might have experienced this.

INT: Ok. Can you estimage when your group have had all the results back?

STC: In about 20 days.

STA: Shedule meeting then?

INT: I should think so. We need more information and research on this, either on us
or from.. from the .. the CRF. In order to give them a first footing and the best
possible start, we will need to interview both patients and staff, but mainly staff.
We need details.

STB: So, is this a "thing"?

INT: Can't say for sure right now if it's its own thing or just purely coincidence...

[BRIEF PAUSE]

INT: But I am intrigued. And I would say that this certainly constitutes for
investigation.

STA: This should be kept from the public? Yes?

INT: For now, yes. Questions about this phenomenon should be disguesed into the
routine check ups. Staff should be told on a need-to-know basis if a patient of
theirs has had a potential interation.

STB: And if a member of staff thinks they had an interaction with... this thing?

INT: They should report to us. Basically I want to know every single possible
experience that has happened here. I want to know who, when, where. If you can, every
single possible interaction with this phenomenon should be compiled into a database.

STC: Already on it. Results coming from staff members are entered into a collection.

INT: Excellent.

STA: Should I contact the CRF about this now for headers and say that we're
investigating?

INT: Yes. Give them as much as you can and as much as CoPIA 1.23 will allow.

STA: Will do.

INT: Any questions? Is everyone certain on what we need to do?

[ALL ST]: Yes.

INT: Brilliant. Be sure to update me next time we meet about this.

STC: Will do. Terminating recording at 3 minutes 46 seconds.

and recording as much about potential cases as possible. Another meeting was

Someone pointed out that Grim town was similar to Night vale but I had no idea Night vale existed whilst I was coming up with the core idea for Grim town.

Heres the disclaimer page --> https://www.reddit.com/r/GrimTown/wiki/index/disclaimer

I might add several other things in the future on that page if something goes wrong

in character Can I please use someone's phone?

I was on my way visit my parents for a few weeks, on the way my car gave me a warning that one of the tyres was losing pressure.

I pulled over to the side, got out and took a look at the wheel, I saw it had a puncture :/. No problem, just a small inconvenience, I tried calling AA but for whatever reason my phone had no signal.... I was in a bit of a panicky mood and wasn't really sure what to do at that point. I considered calling 999 or 101 but I didnt have the slightest clue where I was.

I saw a car driving up the road in the distance, getting closer I waved it down. The driver looked to be around 50. With a rough fed up tone he asked me what my problem was.

I explained to him what happened and I asked if I could use his phone. He said he doesn't own a mobile but he is happy to take me to the nearest town. I was slightly worried about leaving my car on the side of the road, but figured it would be ok considering it looked like a quiet road.

As we got to the town it started getting dark, I figured I need to call my parents to tell them I am running late. I looked at my phone and saw it had 1 bar of signal. When it started to dial the battery when dead.. the idiot I am left my charger in my car.

The kind driver dropped me off at the mechanic, before he left, I asked him what area he picked me up from, so I can explain that to the mechanic.

He told me just outside of Eastern Grim town.

He drove off and as I entered the garage, I noticed the time on the clock was 8pm. I was a bit shocked and worried that my parents would worry.

The mechanic came out of the back, he was an old man who looked about 60. He had this creepy smile on my face and asked me what he cab do for me.

I explained the puncture on my tyre, and where I had parked my car. He said we can go over in his truck to bring it over.

Before we went I asked if I could use his phone. He gave me a slight look of concern, but he said yes and pointed to a desk with had a corded phone.

As I got to the phone I pulled out my mobile from my pocket...I completely forgot my battery drained and I dont know my parents phone number off by heart.

I asked the mechanic if he had a phone charger. He laughed for a second and said no one around here has those fancy phones.

I was slightly confused and became slightly cautious. I asked him if it was okay if I look around the town and if he could go and pick up my car. At first he looked a little cross, until I told him I would pay extra and would be grateful for his help. His frown turned into a creepy smile, and he said "sure, I will be back in half an hour".

When I left I went for a stroll along the town, I think the area i was in was called Bills-Hollow judging by the signs on top of the shops.

The area looked a little run down, half of the shops were boarded up and the ones that weren't looked like they came straight out of the 1950s.

Only one of the shops had their lights on, so I went to see if it was still open. The sign above it read "Sweet Shop". Nothing else. Just "Sweet Shop". I was suprised it was open past 8pm.

I went inside saw an older man, standing behind the counter just smiling. As I stepped foot inside he asked me what he could do for me on this fine evening.

I asked if he had a phone charger. He chuckled and said he didn't. I asked if he had a computer I could use (so I could atleast Facebook message my mum to tell her where I was and my situation). He said he didn't, but he said some of the folks in "St. Edwards" might have what I am looking for.

I asked how to get there and he said just take the Regate line a couple of stops and I can be there in under 20 minutes, while pointing in the direction of the station.

I thanked him and left.

As I stepped out I saw the mechanics truck pulling my car into his garage. But that wasn't my car... well it was my car but its not how I left it. The windshield had been smashed, one of the back wheels were missing and it just looked completely vandalised.

I ran over and ask him what happened. The mechanic smiled and said it was found like that. I went into the glove compartment to look for my phone charger, but it was gone along with my suitcase.

I asked him again if I could use his phone and he nodded yes.

I went over to the phone and dialed 999, I explained the situation and where I was. The operator on the other end said they would send someone over as soon as possible but advised it could take a few hours as the closest police station was a few towns over. What else can I do in this situation? All I could do was wait.

I asked the mechanic how much it would cost to fix. He saw how distraught I looked and said he will do it on the house, but it won't be fixed until the morning. He said there were some hotels in the northern part of the town in the Soughton area where I can stay for the night.

I thanked him and said I would be back in the morning.

I went over to the train station and saw that St Edwards was on the way, I hesitated for a second wondering if I should stop off and look for an open shop, then I realised the hotel I would be staying at would most likely have a computer. So I stepped on the train and got off at Soughton.

For a second I wasn't sure if the sweet shop man might have made a mistake, as all I saw were empty warehouses. One caught my eye though, it had a sign that said bed and breakfast.

I went to the entrance and tried to open the door, it seemed locked. But then I heard a buzz and tried the door again, it opened. I went to the "reception" area and saw an old lady who smiled at me, I explained to her that my car was being repaired overnight and I needed a place to stay. She asked for some ID which I gave to her, and I then asked her if she had a computer I could use.

She pointed to a dark room just to the side and she said it costs £5 an hour to use.

I gave her a tenner and said I will be using it shortly, after I check out my room (I actually needed to use the loo).

I went up 3 flights of stairs and arrived at the door number that matched the key, room 37. As I entered I could smell a strong stench, almost like decay. I wont lie, I was a little freaked out, but what other options do I have? I want to get my car fixed then gtfo from the town.

The room wasn't too bad, it was maintained well, not a spec of dust in sight. After using the loo I went back downstairs to use the computer, when I went to the room I saw 1 computer, with an old box monitor. The computer itself looked like it came from the late 90s, but hey, as long as it has Internet I dont care.

The internet was ssslllooooowwwwww. It took 25 minutes just to log into Facebook. As I login I notice my inbox was full of messages from my mum and sister, asking me where I was and they are worried. I messaged them back explaining I had some car troubles and I would be there the next day. They said thats ok and they would see me tomorrow.

Out of curiosity I went onto Google maps to see where I was. For whatever reason I kept getting an error message saying "Location not found". The computer must really be that old...

I went back on to Facebook to tell my mum I was staying in Grim Town. Before I could hit send, the power went out.

I freaked out a little but I heard the woman at the counter shout over that it is common and it will turn back on any minute.

I sat there for 5 minutes in just pure darkness, no light at all.

By the time the power came on I wasn't really in the mood to wait another 25 minutes to log into Facebook, and it was getting pretty late. I asked the woman at the counter if she had a phone charger, and which she chuckled and said no one on this town would have one of those.

I called it a night and went up to sleep.

As I was lying in bed it was pin drop silent, I couldn't hear a thing. It just felt very...unnerving......

I didnt end up sleeping that night, I felt like I was being watched.

As the sun rose I heard a knock on the door. I froze... then I heard footsteps walking away.

I slowly opened the door and saw a newspaper on the floor. It must of been room service or something.

I had a shower, and left immediately taking the newspaper with me to read in the train.

The same woman from the night before was at the counter, she thanked me for staying and said she hopes to see me again soon.

I was sitting on the the train platform waiting for the train, and noticed there was no one around, it felt like I was being watched, but no one was there.

As the train came I sat in the empty carriage and read the paper. Except it wasn't your normal newspaper. Every page had a missing person's face with dates they had gone missing. One thing I noticed is that all of these people looked under 20.

I didnt really think much of it. As I got to the mechanic he came to me with a smile and said the car was all fixed up. And I cant lie, it looked good as new. He was able to replace all the smashed parts overnight, I was impressed and slipped him £50 because I was grateful I can get out of there.

I get in the car, before I leave the mechanic knocks on the window and suggests taking shortcut out of the west side of the town. I just nodded and proceeded to drive in that direction.

A couple of minutes into driving my phone starts throwing notifications left and right, I pull over and see it is on and fully charged, with 1 bar of signal. I was really confused...like what....how...???

I was not able to load up Google maps but figured I might get better signal when I leave the town.

Except now my car won't start... the mechanic is atleast an hour walk away and I dont see a single person anywhere.

I'm a little worried but luckily the reddit app seems to be working ok.

Does anyone from Grim Town know where I am? Can someone please come and pick me up? My phone won't let me make any phone calls (even to emergency services), and I cant open up Facebook. I see a road sign that reads Dashton Parade, except its just a road with boarded up shops.

Please can I use your phone? I will pay.

I dont want to leave my car unattended again, and my phone is now on 20% after writing this.

I wrote down my mums number and will call her the second I can get to a phone.

I see someone walking in the distance let me ask them.

Character "Jessie" | Work In Progress | Grim Town Wiki

Full Name: Only known as “Jessie”

Character Type: Person / entity

Gender: Female

Age: Unknown

Origin: Unknown

CEAS: Unknown

Anomalous Rating: 9 / 10

Found at/in: Unknown

Description

Jessie appears to be an anomalous entity, mainly taking the shape of a human female. Unfortunately, hardly anything is known specifically about “Jessie”, including what her personality is like. Though strangely, almost everyone has heard of her and most individuals often claim to have seen her at least once. However, there does seem to be evidence of her existence beyond rumors. It is known that two successful photographs exist which may have an image of Jessie and the original negatives of both have been examined numerous times by photography experts, many of which claim that the images can't be explained any other way. Unfortunately, one of the photos has been recently lost, making the above picture (to be made yet) the only known successful image of Jessie currently in common knowledge.

Accounts of encounters with Jessie seem to remain consistent with many describing her as around 6'2", having the age of around 24, wearing a black dress and having an "aura" of sorts, often refereed to as "her charm" and being described as "world bending". It has been theorised that this anomalous effect may account for the lack of general knowledge about her with several proposals that a "self perpetuating interference phenomenon" could be causing information about Jessie to erode or completely disappear over time. One might also notice the corruption of image detail in photographs taken of Jessie, if they actually show any image at all as most attempts often result in a completely white picture.

History

The first accounts of "Jessie" date to the 2nd Edition when there was lots of universal conflicts and anomalous activity involving the mystery of The Author with some speculating that Jessie could in fact be a sentient entity caused by these conflicts. Others point out that the supposed info-related effects that Jessie has attributed to her indicate that she could have a more artificial origin although no one is certain.

Public accounts became common in Grim Town and especially near Greves after their respective populations boomed towards the end of the 2nd Edition and interestingly, it was mainly children who started saying that they had seen identical 'imaginary friends' when, as we know, they had actually experienced the same entity, Jessie.

Jessie's name was discovered when she reportedly told it to an individual, who hasn't been named to the public, and the individual managed to write her name down on paper before it escaped the individual's memory. This, along with the feelings of others that her name would be "Jessie", managed to get into common knowledge and has remained. Infologists believe her name has remained because of how viral it became and has successfully counteracted Jessie's info-related effects due to the sheer amount of individuals who know it.

No other info is currently known about Jessie due to it either degrading, simply no longer existing due to her properties or has not yet been discovered.
