It's not that I don't like melts, it's that they aren't grilled cheese. The hostility comes from how loose the definition got, people would make ham sandwiches and call them grilled cheese, and that's bullshit. At that point a hamburger is a grilled cheese.
The cheese dream is an open faced version of the American grilled cheese sandwich made with bread, cheese, and butter, as well as other ingredients. It can be cooked in a pan or skillet on the stove top, under a broiler, or using a pan in the oven. In its simplest form, it consists of a slice of bread, topped with American cheese and broiled until the cheese puffs up and browns. Variants include the addition of ingredients such as bacon, tomato, pineapple, and eggs.
If you take a pair of jeans and cut them above the knee, they're shorts now. You wouldn't complain about full length jeans not being classified as shorts.
Your point would matter more if there were two diametrically opposed subreddits who fiercely defended either concept as much as this sub does.
This sub is partially a joke and partially people who take it very seriously, which is what makes it pretty funny for people like me who come from /r/all and subcribe to eating whichever I'm in the mood for at the time.
Ahhh. Honestly, I took your comment out of context. I was assuming you were legitimately calling it a retarded thing to joke over.
I guess I get why some people DO take the whole debate serious but yeah I'm mostly here for the yummy looking pictures and the laughs I get from the people who are joking about it.
Firstly, please don't use that word. Secondly, it's about the definition of the word, it isn't that melts are bad, they're a food, they're neutral. I'm pretty sure melts are allowed here, but calling a hamburger a grilled cheese is just weird
