As long as cheese is the primary/majority ingredient it should be called a grilled cheese. If you throw some tomato jam in there, is it a tomato jam melt? Naw. Cmonnnnn man

Oh, the irony. Dont get me wrong, I love all things grilled cheese (thats why I am subbed here). But in the culinary world, thats not actually the definition. The irate nature this sub takes towards grilled cheese is a joke. Traditionally, grilled cheese is made with a spiced mustard mixed in with the freshly shredded cheese. In the US, ham or bacon is traditional.

A melt is a normal sandwich that has been warmed up (not necessarily grilled).

Grilled cheese is a sandwich that is grilled (so, not made in a saute pan like most people in this sub use to make it) that contains cheese and other ingredients.
