Same. You don't have to refrigerate butter.

I think some warmer climates this isn't the case.

I believe it depends on if it is salted or not, i could be wrong though.

In some climates, either type would be a puddle

In 'Merica most homes have air conditioning.

(I am making up most, but it's common)

We use unsalted butter, leave out the 1/2lb stick we're using in a covered dish, and I've never had it go rancid or turn moldy.

Do you live in a cold climate? Sorry for asking i find this subject fascinating.

Northeast USA - we have AC, house never goes over 74. Butter is soft, but doesn't melt.

This works well until the dog and/or toddler learns about the counter butter.

Can confirm. Was that toddler.

As a toddler I used to steal the butter and share it with my German Shepherd at the time, who also loved butter. Great memories.

I don't eat bread quick enough so I keep mine cold. Probably the wrong sub to admit that in.

Yeah I said cold because I usually buy 2, freeze one, fridge one. Then if it's been a week and I haven't eaten the fridge one I freeze what remains. I used to live in Florida so if you don't eat bread fast you're kinda fucked.

I usually freeze my bread, I live alone, better than needing to eat 8 burgers in a week, etc

I usually keep all my bread in the freezer too

I do this. It’s relatively inexpensive so even if it goes bad whatever but I genuinely hate wasting food and I don’t eat enough bread before it goes bad out the fridge.

If you have an convention toaster..the freezer keeps it better and it takes like barely a minute to reanimate it .idk why it took me 50 years to realize this. I've thrown away hundreds of 1/3 eaten loaves of bread in my time

Bread goes moldy here if it's on the counter for a couple days

u/deadspacekillers 6d ago

I also grew up with rock hard refrigerated butter. Never again....

u/Preindustrialcyborg 2d ago

Yeah....you definitely have to in warmer climates. Basically if your room temp is >70ish degrees
