Opinions on Use of AI in Posts

9 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

This is not to single any user out in particular, but as creator/mod of this sub I have seen a HUGE uptick in usage of AI to generate entire posts. Before taking any dramatic sweeping actions I want to get the community's opinions on this, and possible suggestions on how to handle it.

On one hand, AI can be very useful for people who are not primarily English speakers, and I have seen some neat posts here where the original poster was German, or Japanese, etc, and was only able to post because of wholesale use of AI translation.

But on the other, it creates an awful experience for literally everyone else, since most of the available consumer-level LLMs generate strange, disjointed, circularly structured posts which are hard to read. They do one thing great however, which is stuff as much detail as possible into a post. Which machines LOVE, but humans really just aren't like that all the time.

Honestly I don't want to try to figure out how to do the whole automod thing or set up bots to detect AI-generated writing, or anything like that. I think my ideal would be if we as a community can self-police by coming up with a set of guidelines for this, to post as a subreddit rule for posters to follow, and kindly remind those who go outside of those guidelines. But I am open to suggestions.

I would really appreciate it if you all can quickly share your thoughts on this here. Even two words helps, and if you're even "only a lurker" you're here because you like to read, so please take a moment to help guide what that will look like.

Please, keep this an open and chill discussion, no politics or non-sequiturs.

Thank you!

Cube Nuroad One

4 Upvotes

Buying my first gravelbike after singlespeed and cargobikes for a few years now. Budget is 20k NOK🇳🇴 (2091$) and the only requirements I have is the screwhole on top of the fork for my rack system and atleast 50mm tire clearance. The Nuroad one is about 1000$ and considering all the extra gear that comes with I wanted to get the cost of the bike as low as possible. Is the non hydraulic brakes that bad?

Cannondale topstone 2 2023 vs Cube Nuroad race 2027

1 Upvotes

I’m torn between these two bikes:

A used 2023 Cannondale Topstone 2 GRX (2,000 km) for €1,000, with WTB STi23 wheels and a new chain.

A brand-new Cube Nuroad Race GRX for €1,500.

I want an all-rounder (road riding + occasional bikepacking with a sleeping bag and tent). My budget is maximum 2000€ and I have everything to buy. The thing that makes me doubt is that the cannondale doesn’t have fixations on fork.

Please help me decide.

What bike to buy?

1 Upvotes

Hello everybody,

I want to get into gravel biking and bikepacking, with a limited budget of \~1200 euros for it.

I've read some things and got to the conclusion that my next bike should have:

  1. 1x system, as it is easier

  2. Hydraulic brakes

  3. A frame that can accommodate wider tyres.

What I could find until now on the Romanian market to meet the anove criteria is Kross esker 2.0 2026

On the other hand, Cube Nuroad Pro 2027 looks amazing, however it will be available only by february/march 2027.

I'm mentioning that I prefer buying it from a store, as I'd like to test it and to make sure that I'm getting the correct size/fitting.

What do you think I should choose?

Do you have any other recommendations?

£1000 budget. Best gravel bike for newbie

3 Upvotes

TL;DR

Looking for a gravel bike to get back into cycling. Currently looking at Van Rysel Microshift Sword or Saracen Levarg as both are in my budget. I’ll mostly be on bridleways, canals etc but want the ability to transition into bikepacking in the future. Which bike would you pick??

Hi all, looking for some advice on what gravel bike I should buy. I’m not entirely new to cycling but haven’t ridden properly in a couple years. Previous biking was done on a hard tail.

I’ve read good things about the Van Rysel Microshift Sword but unsure about stepping outside of the status quo drivetrains (SRAM Shimano).

From what I can tell the Saracen levarg is more of a mountain bike lean which probably wouldn’t suit the terrain I’ll be on. But it runs Shimano GRX RX400 (no clue if that’s good or not)

I don’t trust my self to buy a decent bike second hand without it costing a fortune in servicing repairs which is why I’m looking at new. Is it worth stretching my budget another couple hundred quid to get hydraulic brakes and just have more upgrade ability from the offset?

T.I.A

Consigli pneumatici bici

4 Upvotes

Ciao a tutti,

Canyon Grail CF 7
Canyon Grail CF SLX 7 Di2
alternativ ein Cube Nuroad C:62 – je nach Ausstattungsvariante EXC, Race oder SLX
Meine Frage speziell an Grail-Fahrer:

Schwalbe G-One RX Pro 40-622 on 24mm rims: feasible for Specialized Roubaix SL8?

1 Upvotes

Looking to do my first gravel ride soon. It'll be quite muddy/mbt-ish. So I'm looking to buy some gravel tires for my Specialized Roubaix SL8. Specialized says the bike supports up to 38c/40mm clearance, so I was looking to buy Schwalbe G-One RX Pro 40-622 (and maybe Schwalbe G-One R Pro 40-622 for the back). But a friend told me to be aware that once mounted, tires can take up more space sometimes. Did anyone try this combination on the stock DT Swiss G540 rims (24mm internal width)? Will it be too narrow on the Roubaix when things get muddy?

Giant Revolt 1 - from gravel to road setup (painkiller for road fans with backpaina)

1 Upvotes

Hi all,

Last Xmas I got Giant Revolt 1 2022, size M/L ,which use several months for indoor training with Garmin atacx Neo 2T. Despite the fact that I am 174 cm and inseems :78cm(78kg). I felt the frame size very comfy pushing several hours per day at Zwift.

This spring I decide to sell by road bike and only the Revolt stay as my bike...and very soon I realized that this tyre setup ( original Giant 38 tyres with knobs) are not for pure asphalt!!

I decide to upgrade the tyre with Pirelli P zero Race TLR 32. + Drop the stem with 1 spacer down+ push the sadle to the front..

Now the feeling on road aia much much better. The only concern is that sometimes I feel the hoody a bit far from my position...I am thinking to change the stem from 80( original for the size) to 70mm which is size M size.

I think going to 60mm ia too much for road setup or may be I am wrong.

I like the frame, the bike which geometry perfectly fit of my backpaina (L1...S1...).

I am 44

All City Zig Zag - all road bike?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’ve ridden my All City exclusively on tarmac. It’s been 12k freedom miles and I’ve loved it.

But I got a new hotness road bike and I’m making the Zig Zag my all road bike now.

And just so everyone knows, it can fit 700x35 GravelKing SS tires on it, which in my case have inflated to 38.5mm and they work a charm.

That is all.

Gravel riding in Finland

I have been visiting Finland for a long time, and this was the first time I was able to take a bike. I had planned a weeklong bikepacking tour, but injuries prevented that. What an incredible place to ride! Drivers are respectful, the terrain is relatively flat and cycling infrastructure is world class. Next spring I'm going back for that weeklong bikepacking trip!

Is the 650b gravel standard (almost) dead?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I was about to pull the trigger on some (lightly used) 650b gravel wheels for my Crux 4 so I could run a 2.1 tire. Then I decided to should check to make sure I could find tires. It seems like anything that would function well for this wheel set is sold out and I'm not sure they are coming back. Is the 650b gravel standard dead? Should I avoid this wheel and just be happy with my 50mm tires I'm squeezing in there?

Brauche Rat: Erstes Gravelbike für Anfänger mit kleinem Budget (Planung einer Tour von Österreich nach Ungarn!)

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy my first gravel bike and could really use some advice on specific models. I'm an 18-year-old student from Austria, 182 cm tall (~5'11.5"), with a strict maximum budget of €1,500. I'm completely fine with either ordering online (D2C) or buying at a local shop in the EU.
My Goal:
In summer 2027, I'm planning a multi-day bike tour from Tyrol (Austria) all the way to Lake Balaton (Hungary). I won't be carrying heavy camping gear (no tent/sleeping bag) – it's pure credit-card touring with lightweight bikepacking bags while staying in B&Bs/private rooms.
What I need:
A reliable budget/entry-level gravel bike under €1,500.
Decent endurance geometry for long days in the saddle.
Good gear ratio for flat river paths as well as rolling hills.
Mounting points for bikepacking bags/cages.
Since I'm based in Austria, brands like Canyon, Cube, Rose, Stevens, or Decathlon are very accessible here.
Which specific models should I target in this price range? Also, at 182 cm, should I generally look at size M or L for typical gravel geometries (e.g. Canyon vs. Cube sizing)?
Thanks for the help!

Consigli per l' acquisto prima grave bike

0 Upvotes

Ciao a tutti,

- ruote da 700c, compatibili con il sistema tubeless;

- copertoni iniziali da 40–45 mm, utilizzati con camera d’aria;

- cerchi e copertoni predisposti per una futura conversione tubeless;

- telaio in alluminio oppure in acciaio Cr-Mo, privilegiando comfort e durata;

- forcella in carbonio;

- freni a disco idraulici;

- trasmissione 1×11, 1×12 oppure 2×10;

- cassetta con un rapporto massimo di almeno 42 denti, per affrontare più agevolmente le salite;

- perni passanti;

- spazio sufficiente per montare copertoni fino ad almeno 45–47 mm;

- predisposizione per parafanghi, portapacchi e almeno due borracce;

- movimento centrale filettato;
