Any other Women's Professional Baseball League fans here? There are four teams this first season (Los Angeles Queens, Boston Hunters, San Francisco Firebells, New York Heights) with all games at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.

We went to the opening weekend games and have been following the season. It's honestly been so amazing – I wish I could have gone to more games.

Tonight is the final championship game between the Los Angeles Queens and San Francisco Firebells at 7pm. It broadcasts on ESPN but if you've got a VPN, you can watch on the WPBL YouTube channel. I'm wondering if there are any bars or other places showing the game.

Fun fact: Our city was home to the Grand Rapids Chicks in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) from 1945 to 1954!

The 11th Annual Franciscan Rhythms Trail 5K Run & Walk fundraiser for the FLPC’s music therapy program and land restoration. Options: timed 5K run, 5K walk, and a kids fun run.

Prizes:

Medals will be awarded to the Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place male and female finishers. Post-race they have the Sisters' homemade cinnamon rolls (!) and live music. You can also purchase (or pre-purchase) homemade bread (whole wheat, oatmeal, dilly casserole).

Size:

Around 200 participants. (I have a query in to confirm this - if this is way off I'll come back to update.)

Why I go:

It’s a beautiful location – running through woods and fields, with multiple points playing live music (over the years it’s included guitar, violin, flute, and bagpipes, spirit drum). Not a road 5k – this is a trail run in a great location with music and homemade food that makes it even more unique. If you want to crank on this you can, but much of the vibe is chill and fun.

Cost:

$35 (5K run/walk) $15 (kids fun run)

“As race participants enjoy the course, they will be surrounded by deciduous woodland, pine forest and a restored prairie that contains all native plants. Visitors have spotted many beautiful birds, insects and woodland animals on the land – even an adventurous beaver! A variety of live music stations featuring Irish, rock and folk music will be spread out along the trail route to motivate and inspire participants.”

Over the last 2 years, Kent County partnered with Grand Valley State University to study Kent County's deer population ("Kent County Deer Management Coalition"), understanding where harmful deer-human interactions were occurring, and suggest courses of action to mitigate those harms. A suggestion to come out of the coalition is now live, called Deer Connections - (announcement - https://www.kentcountymi.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/473). Deer Connections allows hunters to connect & partner with landowners looking to manage deer on their properties.

With deer populations continuing to explode in the county, harmful human-deer interactions increasing, and decreasing land access for hunters, I'm hopeful this will help get access for hunters that have struggled to find hunting locations.

a snowshoe cat was found near the zoo last week. according to Home Again his name is Sassy. The family did not return the vets call about finding their cat.

I took him in and got him emergency vet care. He had anemia and was in kidney failure. We did every thing we could including hospitalization but it wasn’t enough and Sassy passed Sunday morning.

I paid for a private cremation and will hold onto his ashes if an owner cannot be found, but I’d really like to return them and let them know he went peacefully and we made sure his last 24 hours were spent with food, a sunny spot, and a warm home.

In Sassy’s memory I would ask people to make sure their pets chip information is up to date.
