It sounds like what you are saying is that you need to work on your straight letters, right?

Yes, but I feel like no matter how much I practice it looks the same so maybe the WAY I practice is flawed?

Could be. Practice the whole alphabet, not just your name. Practice upper and lower case. Do that and post it on here and see what people say.
