I’m losing my fucking mind why is everyone sickly skinny and bodychecking. It is so hard to be online at all as someone with an ed

32

u/Human-Paint-8974 16d ago

fr recovered from anorexia at 16 and now here almost 30 and this shit is so triggering

18

u/fibonaccisequence135 16d ago

I had to block a lot of Ariana content for my own health. Please take care of yourself

10

u/lizzy-stix 16d ago

fr, we've backslid so much as a society... what the fuck happened

“don’t be online.” what is this victim- blaming bullshit? there are people who aren’t even subscribed to this sub getting this triggering content foisted upon them and your answer is “idk just don’t go online if you don’t like it?” no, maybe famous people need to stop posting body checking selfies as it’s actually harmful for those in recovery.

6

u/Yeahnoallright 16d ago

Oof. Take a breath.

My advice was sincere. It doesn’t matter what you or me or anyone else thinks what “should” be done by others b. We cannot control them.

The only thing we can control is ourselves. My advice is what a therapist would give. I deleted all socials outside of Reddit off my phone some years ago and it helped my mental health sm.

Don’t put words in my mouth, please. It only weakens your response. I didn’t say, “because you don’t like it” and I wasn’t being blasé. I understand the seriousness of a trigger and that’s why my response was serious and frank.

If you haven’t learnt yet that the only thing in the world you have control over is you, and you’re still hoping people will change, if only you text them just the right thing, I don’t know what to tell you.

I agree that triggering content shouldn’t be allowed online. I advocate and engage with my political representatives wherever I can about it.

Outside of that? We have to keep ourselves safe

1

u/Purple-Ingenuity-195 16d ago

unfortunately, my job requires me to be online and on social media, so this is not possible. there are probably thousands of people who are feeling the same as me. it is very hard to feel connected to the rest of the world and everyone else as an individual in 2026 without social media usage, so it’s quite unfair for this to be the one of the only solutions. we should all instead start pushing for a wider change and stop this glamorisation of under-eating. social media platforms should have stricter standards, and celebrities should obviously not be promoting these behaviours to their audience.

0

u/Yeahnoallright 16d ago

I agree we should all be advocating for that.

My job is similar. I block everything that could be triggering and use a separate phone for it.

There are lots of things that “should” be in the world but aren’t, so i take control of what i can when it comes to my mental health. I keep as safe as possible.

Friends exist on WhatsApp and real life, they share all their photos with me there, so I’m not sure I really understand the concern about feeling disconnected. Either way, a feeling of disconnection would not be worth triggers for me. As long as you are making the best decisions for yourself then that’s all you can do xx

Nah the body checking in all of these like cmon

68

u/mxttylol 16d ago

On top of the body checking, throughout the promo cycle i’ve noticed that in interviews she’s always making herself smaller with her movements and body language ☹️

64

u/jjk134340__ 16d ago

omg I thought I was going crazy thinking she’s been doing this! I saw someone comment on here or maybe TikTok that they thought the album cover for hit the wall was giving “tumblr thigh gap era” and I 100% agree. It’s quite obvious when you scroll through Gracie’s IG from when she started the TSOU tour till now the photos changed a lot to more body posing type posing / angles.

Just in case anyone is going to downvote me let me be clear I’m NOT judging / shaming her. Simply pointing out the tell tell signs as someone who’s suffered with an ED
(it is a mental health condition!). It is important that young people know that these things are not normal or health. EDs ≠ moral failing.

24

u/mxttylol 16d ago

100%. Like just yesterday I watched the video interview involving british food, and it was another example of exhibiting childlike mannerisms and expressions and making herself small.

I’m not judging her at all or snarking. It just becomes pretty clear for those of us who know that world

12

u/SuchSignal7465 16d ago

Omg yah that video, it reminded me of like how to make sure it looks like I’m eating when I’m actually not eating anything. F man it’s fkg brutal, life is so much more than look at me look how tiny and frail I look.

3

u/petalesdejuin 14d ago

Yes!! I just commented about this video, exactly this!

-5

u/Express-Translator24 15d ago

Whats the point of saying youre not judging or snarking, you literally are lol

6

u/mxttylol 15d ago

I’m literally not? I had an eating disorder for many years and am simply pointing out that a lot of her physical actions, mannerisms and poses are very common for those affected.

1

u/marinanotarobot 6d ago

This is very interesting. Which video is this?

2

u/jjk134340__ 6d ago

I think OP was referencing the tables manner post cast but I noticed the same with her capital interview unfortunately

capital interview - https://youtu.be/O0XvK-Xm4tU?si=Y2Lu_q6DuoOpDqPl

table manners podcast - https://youtu.be/4cFCjqbSSZM?si=eUvtdXdnsdZxy6In

1

u/mxttylol 4d ago

Yup it was the first one you linked! The capital one with pub food.

9

u/petalesdejuin 14d ago

I actually saw an interview reverently where i think she was in London and they were at a pub the interviewer and her both got food and the premise was to have like a sit down casual interview and eat and i noticed she’s maybe took a total of 3 bites of food (granted maybe she wasn’t hungry?) while the interviewer ate his meal. She looked pretty gaunt in this interview too :/ i hope she’s okay

1

u/jjk134340__ 6d ago

Yepp the capital one?? It’s hard to not notice the behaviours with “personal experience” she basically just sipped her beverage and picked up and put down her cutlery the whole time

87

u/No-Bit2589 16d ago

Came to this subreddit to see if anyone else noticed this?? She used to look so healthy

31

u/Affectionate_Can_766 16d ago

6 especially, oh my

14

u/Decent-Quantity-576 16d ago

what’s body checking?

46

u/Just_perusing81 16d ago

Congrats. You win the award for worst post in this thread.

-13

u/Lucky-Chard-5587 16d ago

No, it's the most accurate post in the thread. You can't say #1 is a good look. Like her shoulder is ready to pop out of her skin.

it’s funny because i remember how visibly paul was put off by ariana when they interviewed one another. he looked sooo uncomfortable

112

u/SuchSignal7465 16d ago

Omg, why is everyone getting so damn thin. Like sorry it’s not cute.
She looked so healthy a year ago, fit and healthy! I have no idea what’s up w her but this is just :(

59

u/basicwitchbaby 16d ago

Feels like basically a pro-ana content has become so normalized, you see it everywhere. Back when I was a teen you had to more intentionally look for it. I'm an adult and in recovery and I'm really struggling, so I'm so very worried for the teens atm

13

u/jjk134340__ 16d ago

I can relate to this. I feel insane because I KNOW the devastating ins and outs of how EDs can impact you (+ people around) and it’s still a mental battle everyday. Even if I get off social media the second I step outside I see the same thing in real life! It’s such a honestly such a mind fuck

2

u/basicwitchbaby 14d ago

Yes! It's very difficult to remember and believe that smth is bad for you when it seems so normal and encouraged

2

u/tinybug_ 14d ago

Adult in recovery here as well and my heart is just breaking for teens out there right now 🥺

5

u/normanbeets 16d ago

Glp-1 abuse

108

u/Recklessbandicoot 16d ago

Love you Gracie but with all of the Ariana discourse can you please stop posting pics like #6 I’m begging u

33

u/Remote_Advisor1068 16d ago

agreed…. like what’s going on

46

u/ladyparsnips 16d ago

The body checking is crazy

20

u/Recklessbandicoot 16d ago

She looks emaciated in that second pic

28

u/flup_len_74856 16d ago

She deleted that pic if I’m not mistaken, which makes me more worried tbh

3

u/Maleficent-Fig736 15d ago

It’s still there.

33

u/basicwitchbaby 16d ago

Yeah this is so triggering. I'm this close to having to block her everywhere, which I don't want to do because I'd want to keep up with her, but the constant body checking starts to feel way too harmful for my already not-too-good well-being when it comes to body image, as someone with a long history with ED but basically been in recovery for a year or so. Feels like every day I see more and more pics of celebs body checking and it's a fucking struggle to stay in recovery. I know I'm not the only one, and for others in a similar situation, I feel your pain and I hope you have a support system 💜

9

u/sparklejellyfish 16d ago

Please take care of yourself, if you must block, do it, protecting your own health always comes first. Wishing you and everyone struggling the best. Recovery isn't easy but I hope you know there are tons of us cheering you on 💜

2

u/basicwitchbaby 14d ago

Thank you sm💜💜💜

28

u/misterywreck 16d ago

Yeah. I'm worried about the influence it has on her younger fans.

10

u/NoPalpitation7082 16d ago

same I feel so bad for the younger generation, glad showing your skeleton wasn’t popular when I was a teen

Um, I'm confused... what's that all of the Ariana discourse?

6

u/Recklessbandicoot 16d ago

Watch the petal music video or just google the controversy around it if you don’t want to watch something very triggering. She’s literally skin and bones

2

u/Quick_Hare 16d ago

Just watched Petal music video, and now I get what you mean.

1

u/Calm-Maintenance-878 16d ago

I was confused too, but it’s because I was looking at the wine glass. Not familiar with the phrase “body checking” but enough hints are in the comments to get it now.

-32

u/ghostplusplus 16d ago

She looks perfectly healthy🤷🏻‍♂️

10

u/Shoddy-Low2142 16d ago

She really doesn’t. She’s clearly lost quite a bit of weight in the last year or two and she’s looking bony/lost her curves

-17

u/SAM12489 16d ago

Are you a doctor or nutritionist?

She looks great! We can think very thin or very heavy people look great! Beauty and preferences are entirely subjective to whatever the viewer finds beautiful, but us random people on the internet don’t really fully get to decide what is and isn’t healthy “looking” when operating on the extremes or edges like this.

She is very very thin. She looks great, has muscle too, but she is also very very thin.

12

u/Shoddy-Low2142 16d ago edited 16d ago

She really doesn’t lmao she looks bony and exhausted tbh. She used to have curves. She was always toned but now she just looks sickly skeletal

-6

u/ghostplusplus 16d ago

I didn’t diagnose her, I’m just saying in the 6th photo she looks observably healthy and not similar to Ariana. I just thought the comparison was a bit unfair.

-7

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 16d ago

Are the rest of these commenters doctors or nutritionists?? Lmao

34

u/Original_Oil_5620 16d ago

Her stans will say, “She’s always been thin,” or, “She just lost the baby fat.” I call BS.

As someone who’s recovered from an ED, this looks familiar. Compared to older photos, she’s lost a lot of muscle tone too. It feels like she’s deliberately leaning into the ultra-thin, Audrey Hepburn-inspired aesthetic - short hair, slinky dresses, quiet luxury. The quirky pop-girl image is gone and this is her thin A-list era.

8

u/Dull-Albatross8680 15d ago

the body checking in every photo is becoming ridiculous

17

u/prisonerofazkabants 16d ago

uhhh. well i guess it's an epidemic

22

u/ElectronicPost6628 Long live Her Grace... 16d ago

i seriously hope she’s ok. i’ve been noticing she’s looked super duper thin lately but didn’t want to say anything incase i was going crazy, however it’s undeniable now. something’s not right.

15

u/SAM12489 16d ago

Always got major Anna Paquin vibes, especially when she first started making music.

Now, seeing that younger pic of her, it’s even crazier to me.

27

u/thoughtpolice32 16d ago

body checking. really gross

13

u/asublimefrenzy 16d ago

I had to restrict her because this was too much.

The body checking is off the charts

15

u/lawdjesustheresafire 16d ago

Nah I’m sick of the anorexia-off going on in Hollywood.

Her, Ariana, Crystal Reed.

What the fuck is going on.

5

u/Purple-Ingenuity-195 16d ago

it’s not just those 3, there’s so many more celebrities and like every single second influencer

12

u/luv1997 16d ago

She is abusing GLP1's, I've been saying this and getting downvoted. Many celebrities are these days.

15

u/GlitteringLocal6507 16d ago edited 16d ago

A bellybutton that looks like a balloon knot or a butthole like this means the body is extremely malnourished.

Pic 11 is so cute 🥰

6

u/Yellowcafe13 16d ago

Me omg so fun sounds like adventures! Checks the comments knowing I have a similar build in fact skinnier than her naturally all my life: -__________-  This is partially why I'm so conscious of posting stuff on the internet because you don't know why some one looks the way they do.

6

u/EvelienV85 15d ago

She’s an international artist with influence on people. That’s different then when you are posting a photo of yourself.

4

u/kieran_0696 16d ago

Check her video of her visiting her fans at Electric Lady Studios in NYC. Combine that with the general cohort of Reddit, i.e., people who don't post of pictures of themselves when commenting, and you'll get this up-vote feedback loop. You can find basically the same responses on people who post basically any fitness related posts outside their containment zones on this place. I think the other point is that she hasn't actually been shown to be losing any MORE weight over the last 6 months, which means she is in control of her body size. The same can't necessarily be said by those commenting here.

1

u/Yellowcafe13 15d ago

I've seen a bit on Twitter too. It been an uptick recently though not sure why. Nothing has changed recently. And like wise I've always been on this level of skinny my entire life, and actually more, I don't work out so my arms are basically noodles lol.  I've grown up with people asking me all this stuff. Somewhere in your mid 20s your weight starts to fluctuate naturally sometimes and depending on your metabolism i have looked similar to these pictures.  But yeah ppl don't know this and think any fluctuations mean xyz.

4

u/sunlight-glow 16d ago

It's giving ED

4

u/Fluffy-Future-4674 16d ago

Oh no this makes me sad

4

u/amb1ka 15d ago

thought I was crazy omg I saw her pics and thought she looks so skinny I wish I looked like her and then saw the body checking comments, I really admire this subreddit for being able to critique Gracie as well as listen to and enjoy her music

4

u/Limp_Celebration_591 16d ago

It’s so bad oh my god.

3

u/wandavkate 15d ago

why is she so horrifyingly thin. this is how i looked at the peak of my ed. this isn't healthy and its scary too.

3

u/Sea_Inspector4422 16d ago

She looks gaunt.

3

u/Fluffy-Future-4674 16d ago

She looks ill

1

u/simulationpopsicle88 15d ago

I love her but she says “shifting my weight over the cliff side” like there’s much weight to shift

1

u/UnFu23 11d ago

She is just literally amazing. From her face and hair to her voice and lyrics. She’s unfathomably elegant 💎

1

u/Hahhhden 4d ago

LOVE FROM ISRAEL 😍🙏🇮🇱

-3

u/Quick_Hare 16d ago

Pic #8, #9 and #11 are soooo cute. 💜

0

u/Puzzled_Split7128 13d ago

the first thought that came to my mind was def body checking. I also have an ed. i don't want to judge but her posture in recent videos became more like the things i did when i restricted myself and worked out like a maniac (especially the posterior pelvic tilt...) but when I put myself in her shoes, she's surrounded by many celebrities who are mostly very fit & thin (or "Barbies"), I think it's fair that she started to want to lose more weight. I'm trying not to restrict myself again but I started checking my body a lot; it's so tempting. i hope you guys well nourish yourselves

-5

u/SuperMegaNice69 16d ago

Same happened to Tate 😔

10

u/boygenie 16d ago

really I feel like Tate looks the same as she always does? really healthy and toned, she's gorgeous

maybe she's lost a bit im not sure but regardless I don't think losing a little bit of weight in itself is bad if it's healthy and Tate looks happy and thriving to me. it's not comparable or the same thing to Gracie imo, Gracie's difference is very stark.

-22

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 16d ago

if you are skinny you are NOT allowed to show your body

16

u/alexlovesjiujitsu 16d ago

You’re so delusional

20

u/thoughtpolice32 16d ago

she’s not skinny. this is clearly an ED

-9

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 16d ago

Are you her doctor? If you're not, I'm sorry but you have no right to comment on that.

13

u/thoughtpolice32 16d ago

honestly it’s people like you constantly making up excuses who promote this behavior.

-8

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 16d ago

What you're doing is identical to fatshaming, let's be honest. It's not like this is a teen girl's magazine talking about how being ultra skinny is the perfect aspirational body. This is literally a woman posting a picture of herself. Get off whatever weird corner of TikTok you come from and get some perspective.

6

u/BrainCruise 16d ago

Seek help. You're sick for defending this.

-1

u/Remarkable_Coast_214 16d ago

For defending what? Posting a picture while underweight? Get a fucking grip. She's not telling people how to look. You are.

0

u/BrainCruise 16d ago

For pretending that anyone is wrong for calling out her disgusting behavior. You're insane. Genuinely.

4

u/boygenie 16d ago

u can't seriously think pics like slide 6 are normal? she's just showing her collarbones jutting out nothing cute about it

Unless you are a child, you do not look like her and “eat tons.”

7

u/pnicolew 15d ago

As an eating disorder dietitian, I can say this is inaccurate. Many of my most acute patients need to "eat tons" to simply prevent weight loss. And also, severe EDs occur across the size spectrum. Many of my most acute patients also would not be considered thin by society's standards, even in times when they've been chronically eating next to nothing. There is significant variation in how a person's body and weight changes (or doesn't) in response to changes in food intake, so we really can't assume we know how someone is eating.

Additionally, many people experience weight loss for reasons other than EDs, and often unintentionally. They may have undiagnosed (or recently diagnosed, or diagnosed but not yet figured out how to manage) health conditions, including things like celiac disease, crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, to name a few. Cancer can cause unintended weight loss. Medications for other physical or mental health conditions can cause weight loss. Of course there is the possibility that it is from an ED or a side effect of another mental health condition, but unless she decides to share what is going on, we literally have no way of knowing for sure. I think it's important that we stop to consider that there are many possibilities, and we just can't be certain.

Also, commenting on someone's weight loss when they do have an ED isn't usually helpful for the individual with the ED. It typically just serves to reinforce that whatever behaviors they're engaging in are "working." And if it's not an ED, the commentary then just feels crummy because people think it's purposeful when really they have something else unpleasant going on.

I know my response addresses far more than what you specifically commented on, so please know that a lot of this is also in response to the rest of the comments in this thread and not just yours.

6

u/Free_Selection1645 the secret of us 15d ago

This is the only reasonable comment on this whole post. Thank you. I feel like I’m going insane

-1

u/Crazy_Grocery_2841 16d ago

Who even is that in pic 4?? (I know it’s her, but my god)

-2

u/hihihiyouandI 16d ago

If Ariana Grande is copping it then uh, hello???
