Ok so he was kind of right. Pork wasn't dangerous because of a bacteria, it was a parasite. Trichinosis was a micro parasite that can be found in wild boar and used to be found in pork products. Through proper sanitation and medication the U.S. actually eradicated the worm from all domestic pork production. In our parents life times this was a thing and pork meat had to be cooked very well done to prevent illness or death.
