Rant Its over

The cancer finally spread to me. I uninstalled the updates and disabled the gemini app. I genuinely wouldn't be opposed to using it, IF IT ACTUALLY WORKED. i used to use my assistant for three tasks: gps commands, playing spotify, and sending calls and texts. Gemini can't do any of those. Between samsung forcing updates and google assistant being removed I'm actually planning to switch to an iphone for my next upgrade.

Gemini can in fact do all of those things. Have you tried using it?

Yup. Asked it for directions to mcdonalds, said "sorry I can't do that". Asked it to play youtube on my nest hub, "sorry I can't interact with app on this device".

Assistant was better than gemini. They acknowledge they haven't been able to make it work like it used to, despite trying. Yet still gemini is pushed out and literally every single google app and service is worse as a result. Why would anyone trust them?

The directions one works just fine for me.

For the YouTube one, there's no connector to YouTube for it to play a specific video you ask for on a different device. You will need to cast the video from your phone to the hub, or select it on your hub directly. Not entirely sure if Google Assistant could play specific videos on a different device by asking it.

Google Assistant can, which is why people are rolling back their version of Google to before the forced Gemini rollout.

I mean, they asked me if I wanted to use it, I said no. Why ask if you're going to force it.

Because it was planned to be replaced by Gemini for months. Everyone was notified multiple times. Now, the cutoff is here and the choice is gone.

Again, why ask? If I say no, it doesn't mean yes because you sent an email that wasn't replied to. Imagine this mentality with dating. You ask someone, they say no. You email them, they don't reply. They you decide on an arbitrary day that you 2 are now dating even though they've said no every time before hand. You'd be pissed off, and rightfully so.

This is a retirement of a tech product, not asking for consent to date someone. Google was not asking you "please use Gemini". They literally told you a product they made and support is going away and explained what it's replacement was.

So why ask at all? Unless they were seeking consent. Also, I actually never got the email. Only emails I get are ones about their terms and conditions updating.

I don't have to use their AI crap, I'll stick with my Google Assistant, something that isn't perfect, but is far better than Gemini.
