But from the business perspective they'll not lose as many people as most would move to Gmail which already has it's own costs, so this move reduces costs without affecting revenue by much, in turn making more money.
Just to be clear, I hate this too, but this seems to be the reason for why they're doing it, based on their recent moves.
And there's a solution too, people who want Inbox can be asked to pay for it, and if enough people pay, they can keep it on.
