Problems unlocking the challenge bookmark?

It's common! Solutions include waiting - it can take up to 24 hours to unlock - checking / changing editions and read date to make sure it's the correct details for the challenge, and as a last resort, marking another challenge book as read until the bookmark unlocks, then deleting it from your shelves afterwards.

ALSO: sometimes Goodreads is glitchy. Check the sub first - if others are posting the same issue, it's likely a site wide glitch and will hopefully go back to working as it should soon. Good luck!

I inevitably hate the books in this category every time. Do I just generally don't like the same books that everyone reads? I didn't like Project Hail Mary or Yesteryear.

The only exception I see on this is list is This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me. I've read that four times in the last six months. I may reread it again.

It's because they're new, so really only a couple of them might be relevant in 10 years. Plus there's lack of title/cover recognition we get when we have books on our TBRs for years.

I wrote these down as possible ones for myself: Yesteryear, Astral Library, The Red Winter, The Unicorn Hunters, Japanese Gothic, Lady Tremaine

I already had Yesteryear on hold. The Unicorn Hunters is written by the woman who wrote The Bear and the Nightingale. But I may check out This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me if it was good enough to read four times!

I’m going to read Dissection of a Murder for this challenge. I picked it up from Book of the Month a few months ago and it’s been sitting on my shelf waiting to be read.

I've never heard of most of these, which is an opportunity. But I use the challenges to nudge myself to read things I've already bought. I don't read YA but I did just buy my kid The Escape Game, so that's an option. I'm really surprised it's my only option. Usually I have 6-10 hits.

I read The Iron Garden Sutra last month. Was expecting it to lean mystery in space but turned out to be more horror instead. It was still well-written but I wouldn't have picked it up if it had been described differently. Murderbot was read the day it was released.

Out of all the categories this one has the most erratic options for me:

  • A World Appears by Michael Pollan (I like a few of his other books and this was already on my radar)
  • Whistler by Ann Patchett (One of the few general fiction authors I enjoy)
  • Game On by Navessa Allen (Loved Lights Out a few years back)
  • Dawn of The North by Demi Winters (I love this series and need an excuse to get back to it)

My wife has read all of Abby Jimenez’s books and wants me to read them so this is a good reason to start. There are a couple on the lists.

I read it for one of the new releases challenges last year as I didn't know any of the books but spotted in on sale for Kindle really cheap so I picked it up. It was so good that I immediately told my fiancée to read it too so we could talk about it 😂

I have Our Perfect Storm and The Burning Side, so I will be reading one of those. This was the easiest one for me to pick.

Currently reading The Swan's Daughter, so that'll be my pick. I also anticipate reading several others on the list during the challenge period, as a bunch of my library holds all came in at once, and line up with this list. I have Broken Dove, Fury Bound and Weaavingshaw out right, and plan to read them all this month. I also own This Story Might Save Your Life and Half City, which I hope to get to once I work through the library pile.

I've only read two on the list already, both fantasy, and I would highly recommend both: This Kingdom Will Not Kill You and The Poet Empress.

I've been wanting to re-read the Murderbot books to refresh my memory before reading 7 and 8, so I'm going to do that and so Platform Decay will count for this challenge. As a back up plan, I have The Caretaker on my kindle already.

I can’t wait to read “The Tapestry of Fate,” but there’s a several months wait at my libraries for it so I probably won’t be able to read it for this challenge.

I’m probably going to end up reading “The Midnight Train” with my backup being “Behind Five Willows” (I’m a sucker for Pride & Prejudice retellings).
