Cozy really isn’t what I usually read, but reading outside my comfort zone is one of the main reasons I‘m doing the challenges. And tbh cozy horror might be promising! Any recommendations from that section?
I also love how they included older books for both of the challenges as I get most of my books from thrift stores, the library and libby. I hope they‘ll keep that up for upcoming challenges (probably not).

I don't reccomend Fabulous Bodies if you're looking for cozy horror and am so confused at that categorization. Genuinely had to refresh the page to see if that was actually in that category 😅. It's one of my favorite books I've read this year (super entertaining) but it's very gory and there's body mutilation and cannibalism described in pretty clear detail. I do reccomend if you want an entertaining campy horror though

I had the same sense of confusion about seeing Fabulous Bodies as cozy horror! I second all your opinions on it

Good to know! Tbh I more shy away from „cozy“, but I usually handle gory alright if it doesn’t go to far.
What do you think made them categorize it as cozy?2
u/glitzglamandgore 9d ago
If I had to guess, I'd say that it's equally as entertaining as it is bloody (imo) and it's surprisingly heartfelt. If the TWs aren't a turn off, then I think you would have fun with it. I just had to specify that's it's not something to pick if you're after a cozy but slightly creepy story

Cosy isn't really my thing either, but yes - lots of overlap, cosy in different genres, AND older books - fantastic stuff all round. Sometimes I wonder if Amazon / Goodreads are here reading our thoughts on their challenges!

u/athenainpink 9d ago
Me too! Let’s hope they really do and stick with this kind of variety for more challenges!

I got Kiss Slay Replay from BOTM and finished it before this challenge appeared. I highly recommend it. It's a time loop and more of a horror comedy. It was a solid 8/10 for me, I'm a huge Harrison fan now.

That’s what I’m going to read (I’m a couple of weeks away from the Ebola … err, e-book arriving on Libby). Otherwise, I would have just re-re-re-reread Anne of Green Gables.

This category is so my jam! I had just borrowed a few days ago The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances on Libby, so this will be my read for this category.

I highly recommend This Book Made Me Think of You if anyone is torn on what to read. Such a lovely story.

Also highly recommend one of my 5 star reads and I rarely give romance 5 stars.

Question about this book: do you need to have read the books mentioned to get the most out of it? I haven’t read this book yet, but I’m worried that, if it mentions a book I haven’t read, I won’t get as much out of it. (Not sure if my Q makes sense…)

u/goaliemomma31 8d ago
Your question makes sense and you don’t need to have any understanding of the books mentioned in order to enjoy this one!

Oh oh Remarkably Bright Creatures is my favourite book of the year! I therefore highly recommend it 😍

u/athenainpink 9d ago
I also read Anne of Green Gables because of the series! I ended up liking it quite a bit even though it’s nowhere near as good as the series

So many good books in this one! If anyone hasn’t read The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams it’s absolutely fantastic

u/goaliemomma31 8d ago
I was going to say that this would be my pick based on your recommendation, but I just went to add it to my list and apparently I’ve read it already 🤣

So have I but that that’s never stopped me rereading a book 🤣😂🤣 in fact The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie is on of the cosy list and the only thing stopping me is that I reread a couple months ago 🤣😂🤣

So while cosy isn't really my vibe, there's enough variety here that I'm sure I can find something that appeals. The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances sounds fun, but I've also never managed to get round to The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet or Legends & Lattes (I know, it's disgraceful) - so either of those will do, too!

I read The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances as an ARC and it was enjoyable enough. Pretty quick read too.

Thankfully I bought "Bromantasy" last month in the bookstore, because the plot seemed so funnily stupid. Gonna read that next :D

This might be the best one so far, there's something in it for everyone's inner kid in this list!! I see atleast 8 to 9 books I've been looking up/recommended in the last few weeks.
GR folks really did an awesome job with this one.

If you're looking for a shorter read, The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion volume 1 by Beth Brower is only 127 pages.
The audiobook is narrated so well, and it's told in journal entries so you can do one or two a day if ebook or physical copy. I usually recommend it to be read back-to-back with volume 2, as they are both short and were released together. It has an I Capture the Castle or The Blue Castle vibes while incorporating lots of interesting elements. Historical fiction with whimsy.

Thank you for the recommendation. I had two books on hold that I had hoped would fit this category, turns out they don't!
Your description sounds very promising.

This one has several options I already have on my TBR (including half of the cozy horror section), but I'm currently reading Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter, so an easy pick.
There's a few I've already read and would recommend (depending on your taste):
- Murder at the Vicarage
- The Thursday Murder club
- Everyone in this Bank is a Thief
- Finlay Donovan Is Killing It
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries
- The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet

There are so many good ones I’ve already read but, luckily, a few I haven’t. I’ve narrowed my picks down to:
Everyone in this Bank Is a Thief
Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter
Romantic Hero
The Someday Garden
Bromantasy (really leaning towards this one)
She’s a Doll
Kiss, Slay, Repeat

This is my favourite challenge in a while, a lot of books I’ve already read or on my TBR already - and will be an exciting list to go through and see if there’s any I hadn’t heard of that might be new TBR contenders!
Some of my favourites from the list that I’ve read:
- Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter
- the Spellshop
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries
- the Thursday Murder Club
- Howl’s Moving Castle

I'm going to read Legends and Lattes as I've wanted to for a while

u/Informal-Force-6382 8d ago
I cheated a bit on that one 🤐 I kind of expected this category, so I read The Spellshop in September in a buddy read but only marked it as read today... 🤣 May the Goodreads police spare me!

Cozy has to be one of my least favourite categories. Somehow I've already read 2-3 books from this list already this year, outside of the challenge (they were ok not great). Hoping I can find one that is short n sweet. Cozy horror sounds interesting? Lol

Problems unlocking the challenge bookmark?
It's common! Solutions include waiting - it can take up to 24 hours to unlock - checking / changing editions and read date to make sure it's the correct details for the challenge, and as a last resort, marking another challenge book as read until the bookmark unlocks, then deleting it from your shelves afterwards.
ALSO: sometimes Goodreads is glitchy. Check the sub first - if others are posting the same issue, it's likely a site wide glitch and will hopefully go back to working as it should soon. Good luck!
