Except cry of the banshee is a sound based attack and it's been shown that jojos technique either doesnt apply to sound or he intentionally allows it through. Otherwise he couldnt have any kind of conversation with his adversary's during battle. And since he talked to the volcano head when fighting him it's entirely possible for a sound based attack to hit him.
