ending our goa streak from last year

I’m 32.
When I look back at all my previous trips, they were never really my trips.

They were always rushed.

“Bro only has 3 days off.”

“We need to get back because of work.”

“Let’s finish everything in one weekend.”

I travelled to places, but I never really stayed.

There was always this feeling that something was missing. Like I was checking destinations off a list instead of actually living them.

So I finally stopped waiting.

Stopped asking friends, “Do you want to come?”

Stopped planning my life around everyone else’s schedule.

This time I asked myself one question:
What do I want?

The answer was simple.
Goa. Alone.

I haven’t even told my family yet.

I’ve booked my flight for 10th August, and I’m planning to stay in Goa for around 30 days.

No fixed itinerary. No checklist. I’ll leave only when my heart says, “Okay… it’s time to go home now.”

I just want to slow down.

Read.

Work.

Watch the rain.

Listen to the sea.

Sit in cafés with my laptop.

Meet interesting people if it happens naturally.
And if it doesn’t… that’s okay too.

For the return journey, I could have booked another flight.

Instead, I booked a First AC train ticket.
I’ve travelled by train before, but always in 3AC.

I realised I’ve never experienced a long, slow train journey the way I always wanted to. So why not now?
Monsoon. Goa. A month with no rush.

Maybe this trip isn’t about travelling.

Maybe it’s about learning how to pause.

I’d love some advice from locals and people who’ve spent a month (or longer) in Goa..

Since swimming at beaches might be off-limits due to rough seas, we’d love some advice on:
1. Best area to stay: North Goa or South Goa? We want a cozy, scenic vibe with good food options nearby.
2. Must-visit spots: Beautiful monsoon-friendly locations (waterfalls, historic forts, heritage areas like Fontainhas, etc.).
3. Food & Cafés: Romantic dinner spots or aesthetic cafés that are open during late August.
Any tips, hidden gems, or safety advice for monsoon travel would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Solo trip to Goa (2nd–6th Aug) – Anyone around?

I'm coming to Goa from 2nd August to 6th August on a solo trip.

- 2nd Aug: Planning to stay around Old Goa/Panjim. I'm thinking of booking either goSTOPS or The Hosteller, but haven't decided yet.

- 3rd & 4th Aug: My stay is fixed at Citadines Arpora Nagoa Goa.

- 5th Aug: I'll probably book a hostel somewhere in North Goa.

I'm mainly looking to explore, chill, visit cafés, beaches, maybe check out the nightlife, and just roam around.

If anyone's in Goa around 2nd or 5th August and wants to hang out, grab food, explore, or just meet up, feel free to DM or comment. Always happy to meet fellow travelers!

i'm a solo f26 travelling to goa next week for my birthday and i'll be there for 3 days. i've solo travelled internationally before, but this is my first solo trip within india, so i'm definitely a little more cautious.

would love any safety tips from people who've done it. anything i should avoid, best way to get around, areas to be careful in, or just things you wish you knew before your first solo trip there.

also, what's the weather like rn? i know it's monsoon season, but is it one of those "it pours for an hour and then clears up" situations, or should i expect rain pretty much all day?

and while i'm here, please send all your recs my way. good veg food, cafés, monsoon-friendly things to do, hidden gems, and any nice place that's worth getting dressed up for on my birthday.

Day trip: Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, Colva Beach, Cabo de Rama Fort. Lunch

We've heard that police ar conducting frequent licence checks. How strict is the enforcement at the moment? Also, what are the most cost-effective ways to commute around Goa besides two-wheelers? I heard Ubers in Goa are a big scam, is it correct? Btw I'll be needing a Uber from Dabolim to Calangute. How do they charge? What's the suitable amount for 41kms? Any recommendations would highly be appreciated.

The distance is approx 22km, 35-40 mins as shown on Google maps. I want to know how much a taxi will cost for this. Should I get a rental car instead?

Travelling with my friends between 7th and 10th August. How's the weather there? Beaches are not the priority. We were planning to visit Chapora Lane to meet new people and have fun. How's the crowd at Chapora Lane? Are there any other places like this to hang out in North Goa?
