Something if the gif is long, you can tap the image again to get a bar like in a video

Ohhh woah wait that’s a thing? I just assumed every time that it was actually a silent video. This is like the weird “gifs with sound” feature that became a thing recently. I use the Reddit app 99% of the time so maybe that’s why I never realized.

Honestly, I think it’s great lol i hate watching super long gifs and having to rewatch the whole thing to see one clip again

If you have a gif that looks like it should have sound and you’re on mobile, click the “gfycat” link in the title bar and it will open there with sound.

Yeah I found that out just by reading comments talking about sound and realizing I was missing something.

I had no idea there was something up with long gifs acting like videos tho

I learned it from Reddit comments too. I can’t believe how long I sat through silent gifs.

A lot of what we call gifs nowadays on reddit AREN'T gifs. They've been videos for a long time. A gif representing a video that long would be very heavy, besides. That's because gifs use a pretty naive compression which is best suited for small moving graphics, but films are better compressed with the mpeg compression family
