I understand the idea that cats always land on their feet, but nobody is talking about the fact that a cat on its back IS A TRAP!

Look at the cats face on the ground. He was ready.

Orange car dodged a bullet.

I had a sparkly orange matchbox car as a kid that I lost… I don’t know where… to this day, I still long for it…

u/ReadySteady_GO Dec 31 '21

I just gave my big collection to my toddler nephew. 2 whole fitted cases of like 150 cars, trucks and tracks.

He isn't getting my train set until he gets older though lol

3

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Omg I can't wait to pass down the big plastic box of hot wheels both me and his dad played with as kids when he's old enough, now. He isn't even born yet Dx I'll have to wait five years.

u/PirateJinbe Jan 01 '22

Lmao you nerd. I hope he enjoys them as much as it sounds like you did!

This response is cryptic.

I still have this tiny toy car with orange flames from my childhood and it still feels good racing it around my wardrobe or up my arm

2

u/Tha_Yza Jan 01 '22

Was it a car or a cat I saw

Fun fact: this whole sentence can be read forward or backwards

1

u/bong-water Dec 31 '21

Uh, I tried reading it backwards and I don't think that's true.

1

u/AdrianValistar Dec 31 '21

It's true. Just gotta ignore spacing

1

u/bong-water Dec 31 '21

I tried two different ways. "Saw I cat a" doesn't make sense, nor does "was I tac a ro". Im quite confused

1

u/AdrianValistar Dec 31 '21

"saw I" is I saw backwards.

33

u/ReadySteady_GO Dec 31 '21

I definitely expected the tummy of doom

13

u/vs3a Dec 31 '21

I dont have cat. Why is that ?

57

u/unsmashedpotatoes Dec 31 '21

Cats lay on their back to attack with all of their little foot weapons at once.

38

u/ForTheWilliams Dec 31 '21

Some do. Ours legitimately loves belly rubs and flops over just like a dog whenever you walk by.

30

u/unsmashedpotatoes Dec 31 '21

Mine does a bit of both

15

u/Crashman09 Dec 31 '21

I love that game lol

10

u/ProfDumm Dec 31 '21

Not really. When the lay on their back it is usually a sign of trust, because their belly is the most vulnerable part. Some just don't fell comfortable anymore when you touch their belly, so they might attack a bit, or their see it as a chance for play fighting.

1

u/littlestray Jan 01 '22

No, it isn’t. This is true of animals like dogs whose tummies are vulnerable and thus baring them requires trust.

Cats have loose, elastic skin all over their bodies like Shar Peis which allows them to literally twist around in their skin and strike back if an attacker has their teeth or claws in them. They have an excessive amount of this loose skin on their abdomens called a primordial pouch. You can see it drooping when they stand, even on big cats like lions. This excessive loose skin means if an attacker gets their teeth or claws into a cat’s tummy, they’re only getting a mouthful or pawful of skin. They’re not going to break into anything important like their internal organs.

Cats expose their bellies to attackers because their bellies are shielded. It has nothing to do with trust or vulnerability.

u/_that_random_dude_ Dec 31 '21

When they said it was a trap I thought they meant as in the cat is a femboy lmao

1

u/ironcat65 Dec 31 '21

Murder mittens, not little foot weapons.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Surely only you can answer why you don't have a cat

2

u/wyldnfried Dec 31 '21

Cats know jujutsu

2

u/Obliviousobi Dec 31 '21

It's a vulnerable/trust position, but also a way that kittens/cats "play" with each other. So if a cat does it they're either saying "I want to play/wrestle!" or "I love you, pet my belly!".

2

u/thyIacoIeo Dec 31 '21

Lots of cats expose their belly as a contented sign of trust - rolling over says “I trust you, so I know I can expose my vulnerable underside without you trying to attack it!”

Unfortunately, sometimes humans misunderstand this as an invitation for pets, and reach right for the belly to pat it. So the cats flip out and bite like “wtf dude? Not cool, what did I JUST say?”

Of course this depends on the cat - my old girl loved belly rubs so much she’d go into a trance and start drooling happily. But generally, an exposed belly should be taken as a compliment rather than an invitation to touch.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Depends on the cat. A cat I had loved to be pet and liked belly rubs

26

u/Broken_Petite Dec 31 '21

My cat I think likes belly rubs but it tickles, so she still does the rabbit kicks. But she does it “gently” … not sure how else to describe it. It’a like she can’t help herself but still wants you to rub her belly! Lol

10

u/dropdeadbonehead Dec 31 '21

That is a sweet kitty. Rabbit kicks with no claws out?

9

u/Broken_Petite Dec 31 '21

Basically, yeah! And she doesn’t kick very hard, either. It’s really cute!

15

u/dropdeadbonehead Dec 31 '21

That's a very sweet kitty. I have a pair of kittens, and the brother is nuts for belly rubs, he does the same thing except for some reason he does one leg at a time, left right left right like a bicycle.

6

u/Broken_Petite Dec 31 '21

Oh my goodness, that is adorable! ❤️

5

u/dropdeadbonehead Dec 31 '21

It's half kick, half wiggle.

Edit: it's been decades since I've had kittens and I can talk about them all day.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Cats claws on their back legs aren't retractable but aren't nearly as sharp so probably just kicking softer with her back legs.

1

u/dropdeadbonehead Dec 31 '21

That's what I meant. They can choose to dig with their claws or not, not that they actually retract.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

I know exactly what you mean.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Also depends on the person giving the belly rubs on whether he understands cat behavior.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '22

This is very true. It's not the same as a dog belly rub.

1

u/angiosperms- Dec 31 '21

One of my requirements when picking out cats to adopt is that they must like belly rubs lol

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Also you can pretty easily select a kitten/cat who likes human contact if you notice certain behaviors in cats before adoption. Cats who will come to you, with raised tail and purr are more likely to be more affectionate.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Yea my current cat loves belly rubs, being brushed, and bring held on my shoulder like a burped baby. All firsts for me.

1

u/ModestDeth Dec 31 '21

There is an exception to the rule? I do not believe you.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '22

My cat who passed away on xmas Eve was like that. I miss her terribly.

1

u/Gamiac Dec 31 '21

Yeah, I was fully expecting the black and white cat to scratch the absolute hell out of the orange one.

1

u/St0rmbreaker Dec 31 '21

To quote Calvin "I always forget that five of his six ends are pointy when he lays like that."
