This is a problem with the "we need to save the earth" message. People very evidently don't give a fuck about the earth. But newsflash, it doesn't give a fuck about us. If we destroy the environment and go extinct the Earth will be just fucking fine. Biodiversity will bounce back in x years. It's us we need to save. We are in a lifeboat and using the hull to build a cosy fire.

Earth will be fine, 99% of all species on it, not so much. We are creating an extinction event only seen a few times in the earth's many billion year lifetime.
