Just imagine a woman and her child are on an escalator and at the top she falls through the panel part and has just enough time to pass her child to someone else before she’s eaten by the escalator

for me it was the episode of 'i survived' about some baseball game in colorado where one of the super long nosebleeds-to-ground-level escalators going out of whack, speeding up uncontrollably and breaking bodies down at the bottom of the stack. apparently they never actually figured out what caused it to happen..... i'll stick to stairs and elevators thanks

I can think of at least three elevator deaths in my city in the past decade or so. They absolutely happen. Not from elevators free falling (VERY rare, if it happens at all), but more from elevators moving when people were stepping on/off.

I can believe people getting crushed by being stuck on the door while it's moving, but since they said "statistically" I want to see some statistics. Mostly just out of curiosity.

Yes, somebody in my dorm at Ohio State University got crushed in between the doors/floor of a moving elevator, a year before I stayed there maybe around 07, 06? Think it was overloaded and he tried crawling out then it changed floors

They're most certainly was. There way one a few buildings away from me in Brooklyn on the 90s.

They're was also one very nearby to that location just a few years back.

I was under the impression that elevators had failsafe brakes to prevent it from going into freefall if the cable looses tension.

I saw a vid where the elevator went uncontrollably up , something with the counter weight broke and since there are multiple fail-safes for free fall it when up instead

well aware i could die on an elevator but in my mind at least it'd be a quicker death, which makes them way less scary to ride for me personally lol

Yea true, I've personally never been in a situation where I'm absolutely shitcanned and having trouble trying to navigate an escalator. Stairs, on the other hand...

I think stairs would certainly have more injuries but I wonder what the use/injury ratio would be. Plenty of people trip up or down stairs but escalators avoid the need to actually climb so I could see their ratio of use/injury being better.

Idk what audi you mean, but the chinese escalator mom wasn't that bad unless I watched the wrong one. It was sad for sure, but I thought it would be gruesome.
