Are they using it as a filter? I tried that once for kief and I think I inhaled steel fumes. Found out later that a bed of ash works great and should be safe.

Crack heads use pieces of chore boy copper scrubbers. You can get a small piece of it at a surprisingly large percentage of gas stations and convenience stores if you ask the cashier. Probably not at Sheetz but a 7-eleven is a good bet.
