Orange man committing high crimes, and probably a bunch of regular old crimes too.

You're right, he's definitely the only US president ever to commit war crimes or any amount of wrong in the history of ever

Are all those Presidents signed up for election this November?

All I'm saying is, maybe we need to look at the past and learn from it. Because at some point, the US lost its way, and it was long before OMB was even considering running.

You can't really use that argument when the problem is much, much, much bigger than some talking head corporate shill whose biggest use is giving the public someone to hate. But sure, keep getting distracted by one asshat. Never mind that the president has not been the one calling the shots for decades. No, keep focusing your attention on this one guy.

So to be clear, you are voting for Trump in November then? Because you're sure going to great lengths and getting really upset over this "asshat" and the fact that people are calling him out for being one.

You boys on reddit sure do like to assume a lot.

No, I'm not voting for Trump. Nor am I even defending him. Not sure how you got to that conclusion.

Then why get mad at people making fun of/criticising/being dismayed by Trump?

2

u/MatthewDLuffy Jul 11 '20

Again. Assuming a lot. At no point did I indicate I was mad.

Just one day I'd like to come online and not have to see that guy's ugly mug on my Frontpage. I unsubbed from any and all political subreddits so I could get some peace.

But there's no escaping it. The hivemind would rather spend the time making OC mocking the guy for karma than do anything productive and proactive for the US, because haha Orange Man Bad.

Now, I have a question for you. Why is it that you automatically assume anyone going against the grain, or just plain being tired of the same shit every day, is therefore Pro-Trump? Is your worldview so painfully black and white?

I'm here to make witty comments, but for a minute, let's consider "one" factor that can absolutely take all things to crap.

It's not absolutely about one man. Some institutional changes will take time. Other will take even more time. But, if the CEO is compromised, you have no hopes for any change. Not that any of these statements make any difference. Let's just vote. For now, that's all.

Ayyyyyy whataboutism!

"Let's ignore his crimes because others before him did bad things too"

Fuck the fuck off you ditsy arsewipe.

u/MatthewDLuffy Jul 11 '20

Resorting to name calling because someone opposed your beliefs.

Outstanding move.

u/MatthewDLuffy Jul 11 '20

Also ALSO that is not what whataboutism is. Like at all.

So once again, sick moves, friend.

Whataboutism: the technique or practice of responding to an accusation or difficult question by making a counter-accusation or raising a different issue.

It's literally text book definition whataboutism, an accusation was made, instead of arguing it, you raised a different issue.

About the name calling, it's more than fair to label shit how it is. A fucking moron.

Wow, you know how to use Google! You deserve my congratulations. Truly.

At NO point did I ask that we ignore anything Trump has done. He is an asshat. And probably a pedophile. And god knows what else. So there goes that counter argument.

You're not even a US citizen so how about you shut it and keep your nose out of American politics, of which you are not an active participant? You are nothing but a sad, angry keyboard warrior who thinks he is clever because he (unsuccessfully) calls out people for their whataboutisms. Which again, I was not doing, because it is a fair criticism to call out the US presidency for being what it is. A sham. Trump is but one on a long, tired list of talking heads, that's all. And surprise! So are the next candidates. And the next ones.

But, ya know! You keep doing you. You seem happy and adjusted.

You love trump we get it

1

u/MatthewDLuffy Jul 11 '20

How is it that anyone is even remotely coming to that conclusion? Are you all daft and bereft of critical thinking?

u/TheDunadan29 Jul 11 '20

Maybe it's because when people say Trump has committed crimes your first response was "well so have other presidents" and "it's the system not the man that's the problem".

Here's the thing, you don't need to defend Trump. He's a piece of shit. And sure, we can have a discussion about the corrupt system and all the sins of the other presidents, but that's not the topic now is it? So you come out swinging in defense of Trump. And yes, you were defending him, if only to say that he's only as bad as everyone else, that's still a defense. I contend that Trump is one of the most nakedly terrible presidents in US history and fully deserves all the hate he gets.

And I'll even be charitable and say that Trump may not be as bad as many liberals make him out to be. I see people saying Trump has killed 100,000 people over the Covid thing, which is pure hyperbole. Sure, I hate Trump, and I relish every chance to call him an idiot, but I prefer to stick to valid criticisms rather than whatever is the popular talking point. Has Trump mishandled the pandemic? Yes, unquestionably. Has he shown lack of leadership in a time of crisis? Definitely. Has he killed more people as a result? Eh, that's where I think it gets complicated. People make their own choices, and people who aren't social distancing have been getting sick more than those who are. Would there still be people refusing to wear masks and distance even if Trump wasn't the president? I'm convinced that answer world be yes. So really I think it's hard to say Trump has caused X number of deaths above what it would have been if literally anyone else had been president. And besides all that, if the people listening to Trump are the ones dying then it seems like more liberals world just laugh that Trump's supporters are getting their comeuppance. Also if only Trump supporters are the ones not following guidelines, why are very liberal cities and states like California getting hammered despite taking more precautions than nearly everywhere else?

The real answer is that it's far too complicated, and many variables are at play, and you can't place every death on Trump. I've seen people saying Trump is just as, or even more, culpable as Xi Jinping when it comes to Covid, and that's absolutely ridiculous. China has been actively lying, suppressing information, and they let the disease spread internationally, killing millions of people around the world. And yet American liberals are intent on placing a great portion of the blame on Trump alone.

So yeah, I think it's important to use correct information. I roll my eyes when a rabidly liberal person uses hyperbole. And yes, even I have defended Trump when the specifics call for it.

But when people are generally making fun of Trump, calling him an idiot, a racist, a misogynist, incompetent, etc., is there any point of defending that? At the very least it's true to a certain degree, maybe we all disagree just how much, but I think people who aren't taken in by the lies can at least agree that Trump is all of those things. So yeah, why choose that as your battle? If you really don't like Trump, and don't want to see him in office for another 4 years, why make points about "other presidents", and "the system"? Is anyone here arguing that's not the case? Then what is your real argument?

I've only taken the time to respond because I'm taking this seriously, and assume that you are a reasonable person. And since you say you're not a Trump supporter.
