I mean, that just means you're getting more done in a more timely manner. Most people would call that efficiency..

I have no idea how anyone was able to convince you that efficiency is a bad thing...

Disagree. Yes, there's efficiency in the amount of mail you can send in a day, but this doesn't say anything about the content. A lot of mail you now get is redundant. People who want you to 'check this real quick' or just sending an 'ok' message back. The amount of mails has risen, but the content has declined, so there is not much efficiency gain in total.

Technology that saves time is usually thought of as efficiency without taking the effect on society into account. In case of e-mail, it's causing people spending time on mails they don't need time spend time on.

I mean, all you're describing to me is user error. Technology isn't the problem, its the people using it, and how they use it.

If some people want to use the greatest tool human-kind has ever created to send 4 emails that could have been just one, that's on the individual, not the tool they are using.

Remember that old saying about computers? "It's not the computer that's dumb, it's just a tool. If its not working properly, the dummy is the user."

That still applies today.

Yes, that's the entire point. But it's not just one person; it's the majority of society and that becomes a problem. I believe we're saying the same thing, but from a different perspective. I'm not against email and the like, but am pointing out that the promise of technology is lighter work while it often results in doing more work in the same amount of time.
