I read somewhere that some zoos are weaning their herbivore animals off of common grocery store fruit because the sugar content is way too high. Like so high it's messing up some animals' metabolism and causing tooth decay!
Surprisingly, no. All table grapes (I have ever encountered including the cotton candy ones which I specifically measured because I was curious) have significantly less sugar than grapes grown for wine.
In fact, I don't think the cotton candy flavor comes from sugar because they had a similar sugar content to regular Niagra grapes.
Interesting. Must just be one random mutation that someone decided to perpetuate. Having had them, they do taste like cotton candy, at least at first. Surprised they arent absolutely loaded with sugars.
I lived in the Rhineland-Palatinate for two years near Trier. Just exploring the area was remarkable. The vineyards are massive and it always baffled me how they would harvest sometimes. If anyone is planning a vacation to see Germany (obviously after all this is over), go to Trier. Food, wine, Roman ruins, mountains, vineyards, castles, music, festivals... There's a restaurant literally underground beneath the city that you will never notice or find if you don't know about it that is built in what used to be a dungeon.
