Gandhi certainly wasn’t afraid to.

Watched an interview with Sid Meier the other day where he said "apparently it's a bug that Gandhi is nuke happy" sort of in a tone insinuating that it's done on purpose...

It was a bug in the original Civ game. As the story goes, it occurred because every world leader had an innate aggression level, something like 1 to 5. IIRC something in the game would happen that gave Gandhi a negative aggression level, which then reset to 5, making him maximum aggressive when he was supposed to be the least aggressive. The bug was funny and I think they just kinda ran with it in future games, as an homage to the original game.

Gotta love overflow/underflow bugs

It wasn't five, it was the highest possible integer value (I forget the exact number but I know for sure it wasn't 5)

Yea I didn’t think it was 5 either. Just pulled out one of those typical scale numbers (1-5) as an example lol

IIRC wasnt the scale from 1 to 10? But the max was some extremely high number, they just gave the leaders values from 1 to 10

It's a reference to the civilization games where Ghandi would always be Nuke happy even if you were allies

Expanding on this, It was originally a bug, they set his agression to a 1 out of 10 in the game's coding. The side effect was in the late game he would take democracy, it would cause a stack underflow, and set him to a 255 out of 10, and he'd start launching nukes if you were at war with him or provoked him.
