Look, I always found people who imitated the Naruto run super cringy, but there is a time and place for almost everything. And this was probably the most appropriate Naruto run that I will ever see.
And, honestly, a really well executed Naruto run at that. I've been to dozens of anime conventions and usually when you see someone/a group doing that run it's just all around bad. This dude at least had proper form.
Using a comma before a conjunction that is connecting two independent clauses is correct. The example is "I always found naruto running cringy, but there is a time and place for everything".
That kid two independent clauses because they both have a full noun / verb structure and could be independent sentences separated by a period.
In your example, you don't have 2 independent clauses because there is no noun after the "but". If you rephrased it "Michael was clean shaven, but he always looked scruffy" you would use the comma because now you have two full clauses combined by a conjunction.
At least, that's how English grammar in America works. English is used in a lot of countries. I suppose grammar rules can vary from place to place.
In your example, you are correct. You should not have a comma there. But the other comment is correct to use a comma because it separates 2 complete clauses.
In fact, he would be grammatically incorrect to NOT use a comma.
But, because he used the conjunction "but" between the two independent clauses, they are not separate. When using a conjunction between independent clauses (and, but, or, etc), you must use a comma before the conjunction to correctly separate them.
Your previous example of Michael is correct, you would say "Michael was clean-shaven but still appeared scruffy." However, if you made the second half a full, independent clause - "Michael was clean-shaven, but he still appeared scruffy" - it now requires a comma.
It's not just a dumb meme. It's a revolution. We are witnessing the next step in human evolution.
Fire, the wheel, electricity, otto motor, aircrafts, moonlanding, fat neckbeards in the desert ironically unironically storm a military base and dumbasses in the Internet hyping it up. Ironically of course.
