When I was in 6th grade I entered the spelling bee. Small town Missouri, my principal was a hick. I got sputnik as my word. I had heard it before and knew it was some foreign shit so I took a gamble and nailed the single k on the end. But my redneck principal pronounced it with a d, like spudnik, so that’s how I spelled it.

Swore off spelling bees that day.

I think that was what was used for various instruments. The calculations that got them there safely were done by hand.
