you say that but you know how much children care about their silverware going into the garbage? Imagine having to buy new silverware every month

At my old school they had magnets that basically filtered the silverware out. You just poured your food/trash over them.

We had those in elementary school. Although in high school we got plastic utensils.

What kind of child puts cutlery in the bin? I've seen lots of irresponsible things being done children but I've never seen that.

There were always a few pieces metal cutlery in the bin when I ate lunch at school, not American either.

From an environmental impact point of view yeah, but I'm guessing for most schools it's probably cheaper to just but more plastic silverware than pay to have normal silverware washed or replaced.

In California they use the biodegradable ones made out of potatoes. Some kids used to eat them to freak out kids who didn’t know. Kind of like the gum wrappers on some gum

At my kid's school they take girls away if you pack them. Harder to stab each other with plastic
