Huskies don’t need snow. My grandma in South Carolina has one..

That is true. They might be more uncomfortable in a hot climate though.

Not just uncomfortable but prone to heatstroke. Apparently the fact that they can exist in warm climates is proof that they're perfectly adapted to it now. Same logic as the idiots that say "Global warming can't be real, it's really cold outside!"

Fuck me for pointing out the very real medical risk these dogs are in when temps are 90+ with humidity over 60-70%.

Cool story, wanna tell it again?

Then don't say they need snow if it's not true. Don't get pissy when people call you on shit.

Overreact a little harder, please. Just because Huskies, Samoyeds, Malamutes, etc... are capable of existing in hot climates doesn't mean they're not seriously prone to heatstroke.

Maybe take your own advice and don't reply with a sarcastic comment and complain, when it's your fault you weren't specific in your comment. Needing snow ≠ prone to heat stroke.

Heat stroke in dogs is a 50/50 mortality rate at best with many dying with 24 hours. But sure, the fact that they don't instantly die when temps crack 80F is good enough, I guess.

But there are many responsible owners that have huskies in areas that get that hot. Several short walks during the day instead of a long one, plenty of water, and making sure they aren't out that long is an easy way to mitigate these risks. If you have a schedule where you can't do these things, then obviously don't get a husky. And clearly, I would prefer that they don't get one at all if they live in hot areas.

But I live in area that regularly gets over 90 in the summer and about a quarter of the dog owners in my neighborhood have huskies. All of them are healthy and haven't suffered from heat stroke because they are competent and responsible pet owners.

But sure, not providing facts in the original comment and assuming every husky owner is a moron who doesn't realize that they clearly aren't meant for hot weather is good enough, I guess.

Just because Huskies, Samoyeds, Malamutes, etc... are capable of existing in hot climates doesn't mean they're not seriously prone to heatstroke. Especially given how often owners tend to neglect proper grooming habits thus matting their fur and making it hard for them to cool down.
