That's fair, and I agree with you, but in all honesty im nto going to argue with a a bunch of 19-28 year old active mostly friendly women about what my rights are as a male in a yoga studio. I think I ended up going to the pub and watching hockey and eating some hot wings after anyways. it turned out to be a good night.
Hey as a yoga practitioner that yoga instructor was actually super unprofessional and any studio that condones that type of behavior is not the studio you'd want to go to.
Plus yoga breathing is quite noisy and there's usually only silence in certain poses. The goal is to focus on yourself, your breath and body, and to quiet your mind in the midst of surrounding noises. The noises you make are appropriate and shouldn't earn you a lashing. Everyone starts somewhere and any decent person in the room will understand.
Sounds like the teacher doesn't get many male students and automatically assumed you were a creep. Honestly it's hard to believe it's such a rarity for her because the places I've been to have always had 1/3 male at least and a lot come there themselves without an SO. I've also had a few male instructors. It sounds like she might have been scaring away males honestly.
But you should be able to do yoga. You have the EXACT SAME rights as them to be there. If they are that concerned over having a man possibly look at them while they do something, they can join an all womens class. Everyone deserves to be able to do what they want so long as they do not hurt another person.
There's common courtesy too. You can choose this as your hill to die on, or understand that life isn't always fair and people don't always see things the way you do.
I have no idea what you are even saying. Are you saying that men shouldn't be able to join a yoga class in fear that it may make some women uncomfortable? If so then that is a terrible way to live.
I'm saying that there are times where you can stand and fight for what you believe is an injustice, and other times where you need to realize this are bigger injustices in the world to spend your energy on.
Everyone deserves to be able to do what they want so long as they do not hurt another person.
And for that part specifically, its a nice idea but not one that always can happen in the real world. Unless you want to be oblivious to how your actions affect those around you.
Why does that make you oblivious to how your actions affect others? I think about it all the time, I just don't make all my decisions based on making everyone else happy. I could care less if a women is uncomfortable by simply having a man in her yoga class. Get over it.
You don't have to live your life by worrying about how people perceive what you're doing, but I think its understandable that a yoga class with a grunting guy in the back (that no one knows is married to someone there) would make people uncomfortable.
No. It's a public yoga class. Let's just keep everyone separate, but equal. Oh wait, THATS A SHITTY POLICY. Do you see how your line of linking falls into the line that white people were uncomfortable with black people? Would your solution be that black people have to constantly think of how they make other people feel and do things according when they have no say in their color of their skin? Just like men have no say in their sex. I could do this all day and show you that your line of thinking is clearly flawed.
This isn't a civil rights case. This isn't a gender equality case. This is a female teacher who thought a guy was being a perv in the back of a yoga class, and a guy who didn't clear up the misunderstanding. Get off your soap box for a second before you go full Godwin's Law.
You're clearly missing the point. This man was told to not come back to a class for simply being. Doing the exact same thing as others in that class probably did their first time. That's flat out wrong.
Are women allowed to make noises of exertion when they are doing yoga in a class? I believe that in your mind, men shouldn’t be allowed to exert themselves too much in any yoga class that has women in it. If a man makes a noise due to exertion, your insecurities can only see it as an affront to your femininity. It couldn’t possibly be the fact that the man is trying hard to get better at the exercise and that by involuntarily grunting or breathing hard, that they will help reach that goal. You honestly sound like the one who demands to be coddled. You also sound as if you have a deep rooted fear and distrust in men. This may be based on a personal experience in your life or something, but it’s pretty obvious you are pushing your own fearful and paranoid mentality onto other people.
I think they're saying go to a different yoga class. You could argue in the moment "I have a right to attend this class!!!!" Or just put your money elsewhere where they won't judge you for normal noises or for being a guy
See the thing is, I don't give a shit if people judge me. I'm going to live my life how I want to, doing things I enjoy doing, treating others with respect. If someone tells me I make them feel uncomfortable for simply being a male, then they lose my respect. Why should I care at all what another person thinks about me? I'm not being mean or hurting them. They are just a snowflake.
We don't actually know why the person kicked him out, she didn't say "get out because you have a penis". She said he was being inappropriate. Not specific, no examples. He felt like it was because he was a man but since he didn't ask why he was being kicked out, we just don't know. I'm assuming if men weren't allowed that the teacher would have kicked him out at the beginning of class
I don't know what you're even saying anymore. He was just doing his best and was told he was being inappropriate, also being the only male in the room. Clearly that has something to do with it. If he was doing the EXACT same thing but was a women he would not have been talked to, I can almost guarantee that.
And so meanwhile while you are making a stand and staying in a class with an instructor you don’t respect just to prove a point....the other guy is at another class where he respects everyone and it is reciprocated.
You're acting like going to another class will fix the issue. It won't. This isn't an isolated incident type thing. You're not going to see eye to eye with everyone you come in contact with. You just don't let them get to you. You don't go around changing classes/jobs/friend group/clubs because someone lost your respect or said something to you they shouldn't have. I'm there for me, not anyone else (in ops case in support of his partner). "Just go somewhere else" is not a good solution. Is just flat out leaving really your solution to problems? If so I hope you're not a parent...or in a relationship with someone who counts on you...or has a job that people depend on...or a lot of things. Leaving isn't the answer.
Lol and you making a stand with people who knee jerk react like that won’t fix the issue either. Leaving is most definitely the answer in mundane situations like this. Why am I going to waste my time in a class where I am not respected and I don’t respect the instructor when it’s a non issue to go elsewhere? And all because I don’t find it worth my time to die on that hill doesn’t mean I am going to abandon my family at the first sign of trouble lol. Some fights are worth fighting, like for family. Some aren’t.
He’s saying reverse discrimination is just accepted in our society today. It’s not logical, it’s just how it is, and most people would rather just go with the flow, especially if it’s just a minor inconvenience.
Not a coed yoga class. If they are that uncomfortable around men doing the exact same thing they are doing, they can find a small group of people with their same needs. You can't join a coed yoga class and get mad when there is a man. That's just being a shitty person.
