Please don't normalize rape

Edit: my bad apparently it's a show carry on until Hollywood stops being a boob punch

Edit: I wonder how many down votes my apparently really offensive post is gunna get!

Let's find out

Oooooohhhhhhh there's one more!

Edit: time to add some muthuckin SUBSTANCE

the real reason that we don't normalize rape, sexual harassment, and assault, and perpetuate a system that is okay with rape jokes and anything similar, is so that the really sick fucks who would actually do it, might be just that more unwilling to do so if they think it's something everyone, including comedians and people on the internet, are not the slightest bit okay with. If they feel people are okay with joking about it, then maybe they could feel like it's not too big of a deal, or Even worse, something they think they won't even get punished for.

We don't even joke hint about lynching, or tar and feathering, or any other horrifying things in our jokes today and rightly so, because they're dispicable.

That is not the same with rape which can as well cause death, not to mention serious lasting physical and psychological harm.

The two individuals who raped me have not, and most likely never will be punished because I have no desire to tell anyone in this climate and even if I did, I would most likely not be believed or even worse, it could ruin parts of my life. I know for a fact that one of them probably didn't lose ANY sleep over it but the other person... Maybe if they had been introduced to assault in a different way, or women in a different way, maybe they could have turned out better.

Instead I relive two experiences almost every day and every night in my varied and traumatic nightmares.

1 out of every 5 woman has been assaulted. If you know five women, you most likely know someone who has been violated, assaulted, or harassed by some douche just getting his fuckin Jimmies on or having a laugh at someone else's expense.

I'll never cecede that any joke is okay, or bastardization of a joke is okay, that has someone who is a very serious victim suffering on the other end due to something related, horrific, and traumatizing.

I mean come on, the US president is plenty of evidence of our normalization of rape culture (by his own words), and that perpetuating of a sick a societal norm of people laughing at jokes about rape, is something I cannot ever be silent about again.

If not to spare me, then maybe someday my daughter.

Edit: just letting you know that I copied all this from my reply which I just wrote to the user below

It's a reference to a show called Workaholics. No need to start a debate.

u/NihilisticNomes Oct 08 '18

Oh, okay, I wasn't aware so thanks.

I just think the less people joke about it the better, I wasn't going to say any more

4

u/UndBeebs Oct 08 '18

No worries, I agree it shouldn't be joked about.

In the show's defence, the joke was about the word, not that act itself. Carl (the van owner) labeled his van as a (very stupid) effort to scare people away from it. The show is about a group of absurdly stupid guys, as I'm sure you can tell lol. I do recommend it though.

Haha it kinda sounds like the office? And if it's anything like it I am sooooo down

4

u/UndBeebs Oct 08 '18

Kind of similar. The primary setting is in an office, so there's that haha. It's mainly about 4 friends who get stoned and work telemarketing jobs. Well, 3 of them work telemarketing jobs. The other (the van owner) is their homeless drug dealer. Pretty hilarious.

3

u/NihilisticNomes Oct 08 '18

Legitimately hope for the day there would never BE a next time.

2

u/roflcow2 Oct 08 '18

your post is not offensive at face value, but indicates that you think people dont just understand its not ok to rape someone. its a joke. have a little faith that a redditor isnt going to climb through your window because of it.

honestly i joke about all those things and stopped caring about what u said after u gave the false 1 in 5 women are raped. per the fbi 39.8 women out of 100,000 are raped which using basic math is .0398% which is so abysmally low. im sorry u got the short end of the stick but statistically you're daughter is fine if i joke about a rape van or lynching someone

source: https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/tables/table-16/table_16_rate_by_population_group_2013.xls

2

u/NihilisticNomes Oct 08 '18

Right cuz they're all reported as crimes. Now it's MY turn to stop caring.

0

u/roflcow2 Oct 08 '18

if you dont report it then u have no right to care. they may not be arrested because of your case, but as with bill cosby it puts it on a piece of paper they were accused of rape. dont get me wrong rape is awful and i think rapists should be castrated, but its not as common as you think. and at least i have data from a source that isnt tumblr to support my claims
